Hey everybody! I have released my new album 'Progenitor' which has electronic music inspired by great games such as the Castlevania series. You can check it out and download it for free on my youtube channel if you're interested!
I used to play this game all the time as a kid! Still one of the greatest Castlevania titles to date, if you ask me. Took much of my free time when I wasn't doing homework while at home, but the ironic part was I beat Dracula on Halloween night since I was sick so I couldn't go Trick-Or-Treating anyways. I guess getting through the game to see the epic ending was as sweet as my favorite kind of candy & that's actually saying a lot! lol.
back when games were good, their music was good and they were just FUN to play... this game took so much of my free time as a kid i cant begin to count the hours i passed..summer vacation noone ever saw me as a kid... lol.. locked in my room with my super nes...
How come opening songs are Always THE SHIT in these games!?!? Entrance songs in Castlevania kill the rest of the songs in the game lol. Examples include, but are not limited to: Castlevania I,II,III,IV, Both Aria and Dawn of Sorrow, and any iteration of Richters adventure, most notably: Rondo of Blood
This game is the reason why i now love video game, I remember my mom asking me which game i wanted.......i looked there was Super Mario World..had that one...then i saw that beautiful Medusa head. Truly a masterpiece.
Oh man oh man... Memories of exploding skeletons at the end of my mighty whip and medusa heads timed ever so precisely... The 3D elements, the SOUNDTRACK, the storyline, sigh... A masterpiece. Amazing how the music almost puts you back in the room with the spikes... Close your eyes and remember how you stared in disbelief at the awesome 16 bit awesome sauce.
Pound for pound thr best whip weilding Castlevania besides Rondo, every moment was epic in SCIV. The tracks just throws everything epic into legendary.
SotN get my vote to for one reason, story. The two games are equal in all categories (music, gameplay, fun) except for story. CV4 has no story while SotN has some story.
@MissingnoTheGreat SotN may have a good story but gameplay wise it's just boring; if you played the crap out of it like l have, you will realise how easy the game is, there are so many ways to get out of a tight situation, like turning into a bat or equip a better weapon. In SCIV all you had was the Whip and thats all you need, fantastic control, cool sub weapons and challenging as hell gameplay, that is what Castlevania is all about.
@1shoryuken : I agree. As a matter of fact games in general have gotten easier over the years. In the 8 or 16 bit days they were much more difficult and hardcore.
I grew up in those hardcore days but I've turned soft. I noticed this when I tried playing the original Castlevania for the NES once again. It's extremely difficult if you compare it to SOTN or LOS.
@SeeD1985 indeed, Castlevania III to me is the hardest game in the series, if you can finish that game as well as Einhander, The Ninja Gaiden trilogy and Hellfire without cheating, then every video game in the world is a complete joke to you.
@1shoryuken : I hear you! I managed to finish the original Ninja Gaiden without cheating back in the days when I owned a NES, but wouldn't be able to anymore nowadays.
@SeeD1985 thats an achievement right there, l still haven't beaten the first Ninja Gaiden, l always get struck down by the 2nd last boss and face the unforgiving punishment of starting back at the start of stage 6.
@1shoryuken : Ah yes, that was the most unforgiving punishment in a video game ever! It happened to me quite a few times as well. Trying it nowadays I wouldn't be able to accomplish this anymore though. Today's difficulties are by standard easier (I beat the last boss of Castlevania LoS in 1 try....)
@shoshenkis played it before, it's fun and addictive but when it comes to challenging platformers, l prefer Battle Kid, now that game is really intense and pumping.
have you tried the shmup 'Hellfire'?? im still convinced to this day that it' s impossible to beat, l can't even get pass the 3rd stage...on EASY MODE!!
I remember going to my friend's house when he first bought this game and being like "Holy..fucking...neutered puppies, this game is sexy as all tits".
I feel like there is some jazzhop in this castlevania. I would love hear more jazzhop in future castlevanias that are 2D (haven't played a 3d one i liked yet.)
by far one of the greatest games AND soundtracks on the snes, still have my original snes cartridge of this and a few other select classics. 3:06-4:28 is one of the most legendary themes EVER.
i hate to say it but i only recently started to play castlevania and thats b/c it came out on xbox arcade, i must say its a very unique game, art, music and atmosphere sooooo i bought Castlevania Lord of Shadows and mannn im lovin it :) hahaa
i was wondering if someone could give me a brief history of the previous games, if its even possible to sum up :P
@1984ghostzero Castlevani Lord Of Shadows is a total history reset, that is, it only shares some elements with previous games but history is totally new and not related to any previous game at all
@1984ghostzero AVGN had a very good retrospective of the series last year, and this year Gametrailers did one. Check 'em out, the series has a pretty rich history.
@1984ghostzero Basically, Simon Belmont in castlevania 1,2,3 on the NES has to defeat dracula in order to save the world or whatever. In castlevania 4 it's pretty much the same concept. But then in castlevania : symphony of the night ( on playstation 1 ) You take control of Alucard, Dracula's son and he goes ahead and tries to defeat him.
I don't know why Simon Belmont lost his way in Castlevania.. i mean... he's the shit !!! And he makes the music awesome at 3:08 !
the music to this game is unbelievable! I'm going to arrange it for my kids's orchestra! They'll love it even though they were not alive even ten years after this game came out.
I actually got a CD with the music on it when I bought it... weird, huh? Especially because CDs were new back then and who wants game music in the USA anyways? Well, ME, as it turns out. This game has some of the best music ever written for any game, ever, on any console or computer. So dark, so perfectly moody, even downright SCARY at times, and never overshadowing the action. Love especially how it adds new themes while simultaneously updating the classic ones from NES days. A++++++
This is why it makes me sad that EVERYTHING has to be 3D these days. I mean look at the graphics here.. nothing special and almost 20 YEARS OLD.. and yet they did some KICK ASS and original things in this game that has NEVER been duplicated. and this game is 2D!!! You could make some AMAZING GAMES in 2D with the technology available now. The creative possibilities are endless if developers could only get off this 3D fix.
AVGN's favorite. Great game, awesome music. Too bad there wasn"t the msic from Death boss fight... I'm gonna go listen to it in the sound test anyway.
SC4 is a masterpiece, a work of art. I have loved this game since it`s release. It has a unique atmosphere to it, which hasn`t been matched ever since.
A lot of gamers hail Symphony of the Night as the greatest in the Castlevania series, but for my money this game is still #1. The graphics, play control, overall presentation and yes, the epic music.
EGN hailed this game as, "The first real reason to buy a Super NES" and they were right. All these years later it's still a testament to just how good 16-bit gaming (and especially the Super NES' sound/music capabilities) really was.
one of my favorite game-soundtracks of all time, and I personally think that Simon's Theme is the best one! You can really hear the church organ in the chorus, it just screams horror-castle-dracula-vampire-zombie over the whole song. just perfect
this is without a doubt my favorite soundtrack in a game ever. I honestly can't pick a favorite song...Okay I lied. The bloody tears remix is amazing. Damn every song is lol
i would acctually buy a snes just to play super castlevania 4 i was like 6 or 7 when the snes didnt work anymore :( goodbye f-zero super mario world 2 the adams family and off course super castlevania 4
it's bloody tears from CV2. this game's music definitely has a unique feel different from the other classicvania's which i dig. alot more atmospheric--and end credits song is so beautiful it hurts.
One of my fave sets of game music. I used to play the level over and over to hear that music. Until getting the cd soundtrack, that is. Yay JP imports!
Your right Capcom is doing great stuff too.Personaly i just prefer Konami but i think Capcom has to be the second in my best of list (Video game music)
You just never hear music like this in games anymore, game makers got lazy and just start borrowing music from bands, or remake the old music. Yes they did it in this game too, but only the last few levels, and by the time you got that far you were pumped to hear "familiar" music. BTW I always hated the museum level and the random bridge befor you fight frakensteins monster.
Damn that bridge!haha. I hated the torcher chamber. Other then Final Fantasy 2 this is hands down the best music SNES or for any system out 2day. This was also one of SNES first games the music was so ahead of the times. Classic!
@r6srider i disagree, most modern video games use music created by designers and staff on the development team, then they hand the sheet music over to bands and symphonies to be played and recorded for the actual game. Back then, they had limited tools and so the music was created in a PC 16-Bit music application on windows 3.
The music and graphics in this game absolutely blew my mind when I picked it up! Everything in this game really exhibited what the SNES was capable. Scaling, rotation, ghosting, vivied colors, and mind blowing music are prevelent througout the entire game. Kudos to Konami on a spectacular instalment into the series. This will always be one of my favorites. The emulation seems a little slow, trust me, it was as smooth as silk on the SNES.
This game is epic win with the music (and of course itself......ALTHOUGH AT SOME TIMES IT CAN BE SO FRICKIN HARD!). Since it introduced us to Simon's Theme, that makes it even better.
Favorite Castlevania game. Will always be.

the original songs in this soundtrack have a much different writing style than bloody tears and vampire killer..........................

It takes one brilliant composer to create such masterfully crafted music. This music really does the SNES's SPC chip justice!

One of my fave sets of game music. I used to play the level over and over to hear that music. Until getting the cd soundtrack, that is. Yay JP imports!

How about Capcom? The Megaman series on the NES was just pure gold.
Rorre12345 2 years ago
Your right Capcom is doing great stuff too.Personaly i just prefer Konami but i think Capcom has to be the second in my best of list (Video game music)
dumby88 2 years ago
Shit, they both kick ass. Konami and Capcom always had the best 8-bit and 16-bit tunes.
JackinOffJesus 2 years ago 4
Konami, Capcom, Nintendo, Square... The list goes on and on. So many amazing 8-bit and 16-bit soundtracks out there, including this beauty.

You just never hear music like this in games anymore, game makers got lazy and just start borrowing music from bands, or remake the old music. Yes they did it in this game too, but only the last few levels, and by the time you got that far you were pumped to hear "familiar" music. BTW I always hated the museum level and the random bridge befor you fight frakensteins monster.
r6srider 2 years ago
Damn that bridge!haha. I hated the torcher chamber. Other then Final Fantasy 2 this is hands down the best music SNES or for any system out 2day. This was also one of SNES first games the music was so ahead of the times. Classic!

game makers got lazy
You hit the nail on the head.
JamesRideout123 2 years ago
More or less. Why release a full game when you can just put out an uncompleted POS and patch it later?
Of course they never do patch the games. :x
BLARGHALT 2 years ago

Where can we get the soundtrack to this game?!!? I've looked through torrents...and I can't get it!
