This is absolutely disgusting that a person with no qualifications, no experience or merit should be given the job of senior lecturer of our tax affairs. Bring on 2013 I say!
It's false to claim that the 'super mining tax' will increase net unemployment. The revenue raised can fund increasing employment in other sectors, say in 'green jobs' and healthcare. Plus mining workers have a choice in organising their struggle against job-loss threats, taking more control. Conscious class struggle is needed in dictating what political elites do with taxes. The 'super' tax is welcomed by the left, potentially creating more enployment.
@stephenfs03 mate that's rubbish and if you had any understanding of how economics works you would realize how ignorant you just sounded.
first of all, government spending is ALWAYS less efficent than private spending. want an example? try the government stimulus packages that accounted for 9% of GDP. what extra economic growth did we get from that based on treasury estimatations? a miserable 1.5% - just enough to keep us out of a 'technical' recession so the gov could boast.
@AussiePolitics, of course the way you understand economics is based on the Liberals/ruling classes perception of economics. Thus the Liberals (and Labour, and the Greens to some extent) take this acceptance of a neoliberalist economic basis as being given by nature, scholastically not to be challenged by other ideas on economy of which may save many working class people from hardship and save lives. The Liberals are anti-working class party, except through demagogy. Suck yours.
@stephenfs03 "Suck yours" the very fact that you end a comment with an immature personal attack towards someone else tells anyone else that you are too immature to have a political or economic debate. You really are the stereotype of an online debater.
@endosymbiotictheory, actually I meant 'suck yours' to be a politically intelligent shorthand for Liberal ideologists who want to immerse themselves in neoliberal tendencies (that abstracted basis I tried to allude to), against those who don't want to increase taxes at the 'big end' of town. It was meant to be cheeky but not outright offensive, so apologise if I came across as being offensive. I ran out of space. On live the class struggle. Cheers.
she's just a humble backbencher in her first term. if this was someone on the front bench then i would be worried. it is a complicated issue, question is how did she get in this predicament. she probably gave her advisor a kicking after this.

Strewth! .... who's side is Julie Collins actually on? Evidently not Kevin 0-Lemon's!
Where on Earth was her media adviser ... on a fact finding mission in Outer Mongolia checking out insultaion bats and government school buildings programs perhaps?
@averysensiblename She's not a bimbo. I've met her and she's a real nice, elegant lady. To get your facts right Julie Collins is from the Left faction of Labor, Rudd is from the Right, and they disposed him over these problems. This was just a slow news day for her, and in truth, that was part of a five minute interview for her. And it's very hypocritical for Libs to talk about losing jobs, think of work choices. As for mining companies, they can afford millions for ad campaigns not workers?
These mining companies are making billions from resources we all own, Why should they get them for free? Once the minerals are gone, they are gone forever. Even the mining companies say they should pay a bit more. 40% is a bit high but i dont think that will happen.
@tubester4567 For "free"? Mining companies pay tax at the standard company tax rate, PLUS they pay mining royalties which are set by the State Governments. State Governments are more then welcome to up their mining royalties if they think they need to support more mining infrastructure. That's on top of license and exploration fees and the Billions spent setting up the mine.
If you think it's "free", why don't you go out there and get some of these "free" resources yourself and make Billions?
@Kertgaferg Yes but the these royalties are not very much. I would go mining if i could get the capital to start but that is only open to the privileged few. If one guy can be worth billions in a few years theres something wrong. According to the mining industry ad, miners pay 40% is the US, the land of capitalism and no regulation so we are being ripped off.
It's just socialist theft, our voting system allows criminals into power - 1 Person, 1 Vote just give FAR TOOO MUCH power to criminals and leeches in society - the socialists! We need Multiple Votes per person, based on what they give to society - tax stolen, people employed, charity work, sporting endevour, dangerous jobs for society. etc etc ===> search for my video - KevsCrap3.mpg <===
The real lesson should be don't try to give pap, pre-rehearsed and off topic answers to simple questions. We pay these guys enough that they can spend 10 minutes reading a summary of their government's proposed policy - particularly on an issue that is dominating as much as this one.
