@Pellicius The attack was going to be run in the news as a terrorist attack by muslim terrorists.... the planes were making it look as much like a terrorist attack and as little as a an airplane torpedo as possible... thats obvious in the fact they used smaller torpedoes from torpedo boats.... it would have been reported that terrorists got on board, started fires, and caused an explosion thus sinking the ship.... the survivors survived pretty much on luck....
Then how come the Israelis stopped the attack midway through, and then asked the Americans if they could help them? If they had kept it up then the Liberty would have sunk, all evidence would have been erased, and and Israel could have denied involvement in the incident.
Why did they spare the Liberty if their aim was to sink it? They had plenty of bombs and torpedoes left.
Napalm floats on the surface of the water, so anyone trying to abandon the ship would be burned to death, that is if they didn't died from asphyxiation first. Bunker busters in the water cause lungs to implode.
Their objective was clearly not to sink the ship, but simply to kill as many navies as they could. They wanted it to become a symbol, an emblem to the American people. If it had sank, it would not had the same impact as if it sunk. Same as the golf of Tomkin incident.

@One4TheCause88 The pilots who attacked Liberty didn't any training in ship recognition or attack and were not armed for the job, having only guns and Napalm, not the AP rockets and delayed-action bombs one would use when planning to attack a ship. The jets arrived to look for fleeing Egyptian ship, made couple of passes at 3,000 feet altitude, saw no Israeli markings on the ship and therefore identified it as Egyptian - a Hunt or Z class destroyer. The ID was wrong but this was not their fault.

@One4TheCause88 When it was attacked, one of the pilots only recognized Latin, not Arabic markings on the now burning ship, radioed the information to IDF Air Force HQ and broke off. This information was then passed to IDF Naval HQ but this was 1967, there was a war going on and the WW2 surplus IDF communications system was clogged with a massive backlog of messages. At least offer some real arguments as opposed to your anti-Israel bias.

Their objective was clearly not to sink the ship, but simply to kill as many navies as they could. They wanted it to become a symbol, an emblem to the American people. If it had sank, it would not had the same impact as if it sunk. Same as the golf of Tomkin incident.

@One4TheCause88 The pilots who attacked Liberty didn't any training in ship recognition or attack and were not armed for the job, having only guns and Napalm, not the AP rockets and delayed-action bombs one would use when planning to attack a ship. The jets arrived to look for fleeing Egyptian ship, made couple of passes at 3,000 feet altitude, saw no Israeli markings on the ship and therefore identified it as Egyptian - a Hunt or Z class destroyer. The ID was wrong but this was not their fault.

This information was then passed to IDF Naval HQ but this was 1967, there was a war going on and the WW2 surplus IDF communications system was clogged with a massive backlog of messages. At least offer some real arguments as opposed to your anti-Israel bias.
