I just don't get how making a cross over easier to do is going to improve anything? I've done them in full goal equipment and I'm by no means a good player, for beer league I'm a decent goalie but that's it.
Do a Google search for "Viking Ice" - the stuff is pretty cool. It's a high silicone content plastic that's used in all kinds of stuff from indoor (uncooled) hockey rinks to Vegas shows.
