About the portal: If you go through a portal where you put it, then enter the Nether, and go through the same portal you go back to the first portal!!!! DUH!!!!

@Daraaggon That's portal mechanics - Notch added that as a way to travel ridiculously quickly as well as go into hell. Every block in the Nether = 8 blocks in your actual world.

@NinjaBob991 no they don't, every step in the nether is equivilant to 10 steps in the real world, wherever you build a portal in the nether, it will appear in the real world x10 amount of steps away from the original...

(If you made a portal in the nether 10 steps from your original youd spawn in the real world (in your portal) 80 steps from your original. then if you whent back through the second portal, youd go back to your second nether portal. all portals are linked in paires.

@LightLMatt1 Clicking allows you to mine faster by skipping the delay/missing when going to the next block. You just have to let go of the mouse button right when you finish breaking a block, then immediately click on the next block.

I really don't think those items were a total lost cause. Just re-enter the first portal; go through the one you made in the Nether and walk back up the 'staircase'. A fair bit of stuff should've been dragged against that brick you placed with a torch on top in case you broke into water.

Granted this video was posted 3-ish months ago :)

u made another portal in hell thats wat changed your location. if you make your 2 first portals thats a portal from 1-2. since now you have 3 portals you make 4th in your base somwhere else so 3 will go to 4.

Not luck notch has stated that when you create a portal its exact counterpart is created in the nether hence the portal takes you back exactly where you made it O_o oh and ghast suck and I made my portal on the surface so I ended up literally one block away from a 100 meter drop >_>;

@Fish98030 When they first came out, they were really buggy. They wouldn't connect with the original portal, so they would sometimes just create new ones if the "find a safe place" code moved it too far away.

i had a strange thing happen with portals.

I went through my first portal then built a cobblestone base around that. then deciding to take the risk of not finding my above base again i went through the same portal. I returned only 10 steps away form the entrance of my base.

Then i noticed 6 other portals have sprung up in my world. When i go through those they all lead me back to my nether base and when i go through that portal i return back to the above base. soooo :D

Ya know, the portal leading to your other portal was not luck. In order to make the same portal back and forth, you will have to retrace your steps EXACTLY. So... it was sort-of luck.

When you die at an unknown location.. pause and think.

In this situation, you could go back to the nether, use the portal, use the NEW portal, swim back, take your stuff, go back down.

Although you did use the other portal.

p.s. That austrailium that u mined seemed really familiar relating to when you were viewing it from the other side of the lava river.

p.p.s. Don't take diamond down to the nether..iron works just as fast.

the only reason you got back home at 10:10

is just because if you make another portal away from the first you move 1 block and go back

you go 16 in normal world

1 block in nether = 16 blocks from normal world

if you are gonna make another portal

that get a compass

when you get to the surface just follow back home and your ok

portals do nto always take you to a differnt place. i cant tell you the exact mathmatics but its like (example not actual) 1 step in hell equals like 14 steps in normal world so building another portal far from your first can put you in some weird places. see the forums for the exact math of it.
