This guy tells it how it is. Wow! This is refreshing. And he is so confident, it makes you immediately believe him. He is proving his point with each idea he presents.
He was a U of T professor who wrote a book called Understanding Media in which he said that "The medium is the message."
And you can see this phenomenon yourself when two media cover the same event. The most famous is the Nixon-Kennedy debate, where radio listeners thought Nixon had won and TV observers thought Kennedy had won (Nixon had 5 o'clock shadow).
Don't try to read Understanding Media. McLuhan's prose is so dense you can walk on it. Rather, read an interpreter of his ideas.
My GOD! He was so overrated!

Ironically, Gzowski had a lot more potency on radio than he did on television.

@fishhead06 I agree. Of course, I liked him on TV, but he was good either way.

His comment about TV ruining the House of Commons was rather prophetic. I believe they are talking about doing away with the cameras?

McLuhan was outrageous! Very intelligent, very clever - and very Christian, strangely. Who was he?

For all the non-Canadians, U of T = University of Toronto
The original fuller quote is,
"The medium is not more important than the message;
the medium IS the message."
