Not that it's a particularly productive line of thought, but despite Buzzo's insistence that Black Sabbath weren't that much of an influence on the Melvins, there's a full 1985 show on YouTube (from about a month before Dale's 18th birthday) where they play a very faithful rendition of 'Into The Void'.
Maybe the Melvins had a second generation Black Sabbath influence at work?
I dont mean to be a buzzkiller or heretic or whatever, but I'll bet you a million dollars that Black Flag and Flipper were possibly influenced by BLACK SABBATH !!!
@VICECORE2011 ...what,wait a second. bcuz its the original black flag that like, influenced the melvins. not the rollins years, you know, the lame years...
flipper..FLIPPER... quentinsensual auragraphic decomposure asociated W/nigerhygentically percusions permissally misused to infuriate suculintious bean brains not unlike any healthy zombiefied charcoalian misanthrope on u tube..Bob!
why do you sperm junkies comment hater bullshit on here.you just wish you could suck off the melvins.so go back to the donkey show and fuck doris cunt day
@rocketb00t You have no clue fool. The Army will be coming for YOU son. And there are more covers they do fucking kick ass. So go to the music section at walmart and look for a Melvins album. Dickfuck.
This was the first Melvins album I ever heard. At that time I didnt realize that this or Dwight Frye were covers. I used to crank this up so loud when I was stoned...
I personally prefer Flipper's version although this is the first version i heard, the yellow background on the Cover art always gets me when i'm high.
@danzig5 Sabbath created the slow heavy drumming and evil sounding distorted guitars. You can easily see the resemblance of this song to Black Sabbaths self titled song... not saying that the melvins stole the idea or anything... this songs bad ass on its on accord....but what i find even more interesting is that a LOT of stoner rock bands kickin around these days and from the 90s sound heavily influenced by Sabbaths "Master of Reality"
@danzig5 The Black Sabbath thing, calling them "Sabbath-worsippers" etc, is just pure journalistic lazyness. Buzz has said many times that Sabbath had no direct influence on them. Their main influences were the slow Black Flag stuff and Flipper
@danzig5 I dont mean to be a buzzkiller or heretic or whatever, but I'll bet you a million dollars that Black Flag and Flipper were possibly influenced by BLACK SABBATH !!!

They couldn't get the snare sound right, so they replaced it with the snare from Zep's "Dyer Maker".

eraserhead321 2 years ago
I love it when an album is half covers, and yet they still rock just as hard as original material. This is an amazing fucking rendition.

Everyone connects them with their Black Sabbath influence, but Buzzo says Black Flag was a bigger influence on him then anything.
danzig5 2 years ago 26
Probibly connect this with a Black Sabbath influence maybe because of the tritone in the rif...
