The best JV Hawks play on varsity, sophomores too. So you're right the JV is weaker. This yr's (2011-12) sophomore Hawk team is tremendous: those guys set an offensive record last yr and both A and B were undefeated. Those players were National Champions in 2009, beat the Brooklyn Chiefs, and they are almost all back on one team. They shut out Homewood-Flossmoor for the Chicago Metro Title in 09.
Montini has a great program, great athletes and coaches. Always been very strong. They barely lost the 7 on 7 a few weeks ago to maine south by one point.
ANYONE can try out to play at Maine South, most players come from the Falcon program, but they are VERY open to new players: it's a matter of how athletic and motivated you are. All you need is attitude: they will teach you everything else. I know a few walk-ons who ended up as starters
Loyola could have won this game. The Hawks scored 14 pts in 9 seconds. The second touchdown, the fumble recovery in the endzone, was due to Rambler mistakes and Hawk hustle. The Rambler should never have tried to catch the kickoff at the 4 yd line, his knee touched at the 3 1/2. Then, the quarterback took the ball in the shotgun, instead of under the center. This put the ball in the endzone. Third, they tried to run into two linemen who were blocking #68 of the Hawks, there was no where to go.
The Park Ridge All-American 8th grade Falcons were National Champions in 2009. They beat the Brooklyn, NY Chiefs, the best the Northeast had to offer. Most will go to Maine South and play on the same team there. If they are already the best in the nation, how good will they be as they play together at Maine South? And some will play varsity starting their Sophomore year. The Falcon grade school team is the farm team for Maine South, many do not know that. They are now training in LaCrosse!
Most of the Maine South players are local: they start out on the grade school Falcon teams, some from first grade. Their 8th grade All American Falcon team has won National Championships. So many of these guys, by the time they play varsity, have had EIGHT years of national level coaching. You can see that in their good instincts for the game. You can see the fumble/Hawk recovery that won the game at Tyler Fahey #81, he recovered the ball. He was an all-state linebacker, incredible jumper
