  • The book was amazing. Its just about the most depressing story you can imagine, but Algren's beautiful prose makes it impossible to forget. The lonely people and places seem extracted from real life. Society's rejects drinking away their hard earned change at Antek's saloon and watching the Division Street El, hoping that things will change

  • Not a single mention of Nelson Algren's name in the voice over or the credits. Makes me believe him even more about being screwed over by Otto Premminger.
