Black english flint rock...nice...I just happen to live right across a huge stone quarry here in England. I find lots of quality stones and of course many pieces of flint stone!
the tenders are cut hemp rope- 3/8 to 1/2", but just like the twine. Can you find out what they're soaked in or can you tell if its petroleum jelly? And save the tender, using other nest materials if any are around. That char cloth looked a bit thin but probably does the job!
a real birds nest is a lot better (better if the birds are still in it)
