Synyster Gates: "I learned sweep picking from a variety of sources. One was a Frank Gambale instructional video, but he executes his sweeps a little differently. You can hear me play licks like this one on the new record."
Absolutely great lesson. You are talented teacher and player.
One thing I thing that could be better - Maybe you should show every ex. firstly up the speed, then slower. Some people can repeat ex. after one showing, or sometimes is better to play some parts having whole melody in tempo mind. If I know how it should look like (accents, melody) then it is easier to learn separate notes. I wish you understood me :)
@poprostudaniel Nice tips man and thanks for watching the video. I think your right and I should play through the examples up to speed before the lesson starts so every one can hear the effect and decide if its something they would want to try. I have been doing that with my newer vids after getting a couple of suggestions from viewers. :)
bro.. if you knew how to market your product (ie lessons) you could make a living off of this. well done. just start learning how to make it more professional, etc. well done.
@kostaVHjovanovic Hey, it's a Herman Li Signature Model. Don't know about the custom. It actually belonged to a private student of mine. I was borrowing it while my guitar was in the shop. :)
Nice thanks for the lesson!! I'm getting in to sweeping penta scales, i usally just do 3 string arpeggios, i'm trying to get 5string arpeggios in time, it's very hard :\\
Maybe? I personally have never heard it called that, but you never know. I have always heard this technique referred to as sweep picking or economy picking.
Interesting that you brought that up, because when I teach this topic to students, (albeit at a pretty basic level - LOL!) I often nick-name it "directional-picking" as you mentioned, because I think that name says it all - IE: the stroke direction is ALWAYS in the DIRECTION of the string-transition!
Makes more sense to me. Maybe we should write a directional picking book together and no one will ever know that it is just really economy picking. Hehe.
Thanks Dave, I do have a lot more of this style of picking video lessons coming. The first ones will be concentrating on playing sequences of 3, 4, 5 and 6 note groupings of pentatonics using sweeping. Hope to see you there!! Carl..
great lesson you are my favorite teacher on you tube..
