With metal brackets, silver works best if you want something that won't show. In our practice, we use Damon clear brackets, which have a little door instead of an elastic, so staining is not a problem.

get the clear braces. i have them and noone notices them. people say they start to stain after a while but thats not true. you just have to brush your teeth regularly like any normal person. anddd you cant see them on camera

@LazzaraOrthodontics Do you just post the exact same comment to everybody? and i have realized how can it hurt?! They glue those metal things to your teeth, put the wire, and then put a small rubber band over the legs on the pieces of metal to make color. There's nothing to worry about :) .. is there? >.<
I got braces on my bottom jaw yesterday and I got them pink and black.. I am getting the top ones done in 2 weeks but I'm getting them red and green for Christmas and changing the bottom ones to red and green too... Merry Christmas haha... Xxx

thats the best part of having braces is choosing the colors i'd be lieing if i said i loved my braces it was a love hate relationship but only had them for a year so the tightenings obviously not fun but the colors was cool to choose each month alot of people go along with holidays and some go with their favorite color or even rainbow i do not recomment the clear my ortho told me in the beginning sometimes they stain so i stuck with the metal its the best choice

@Silverrubberducky It's possible sometimes. We usually try to limit the colors to two per visit, because it's hard to keep track of more than that. We will occasionally make exceptions for good patients, though.

@rebecca56812 I got braces in May. My orthodontist won't let anyone get bands the first time. Alot of orthodontists are stopping it because of how much it cost. It cost for 1 set of braces to get bands 11,000 dollars. My orthodontist makes us earn bands, which means we have to make our oral hygene better everytime we go. @braces20111- It depends on the effect you are going for. Silver bands disappear into the braces, but colors can make a statement. Remember that you get the colors changed at each visit, so it's not an irreversible decision. Dr. John Lazzara

The current generation of clear braces have few, if any drawbacks when compared to traditional metal braces. In particular, I have found the Ice braces we use in our practice to offer a great combination of appearance and function. You should talk more with your orthodontist about exactly what the differences between the braces he or she uses are. Good Luck!

The colors secure the wire to the brace- they tie the wire in place. We used to do this by twisting a tiny wire around the brace, sort of like a twist-tie, but the colors are faster, more comfortable, and a lot more fun. :)
The colors are tiny elastic bands that are applied by stretching them around the 'wings' on your braces. They are typically changed at each visit, so you should be able to try various colors throughout the course of your treatment.
Different doctors have differing policies about colors, but in our practice, you get to pick new colors every time you come in (generally every 6-8 weeks). Wearing rubberbands is a doctor's decision and depends on the specifics of your needs and your bite.

The only annoying part is the taste of the stuff to make your teeth sticky.
Remember to lick your lips when you get the chance because your mouth gets VERY dry when getting your braces on.

You may still be able to put colored elastics on your metal or clear braces. Ask the orthodontist or assistant at your next visit.
