He does have a great arm. He needs to get more movement on his fastball or the MLB hitters are going to hammer him..Good luck Yu and welcome to MLB in America
That is disgusting. I dont know how fast 146km is but if it's anywhere in 90's, this guy is sick. Hope the Yankees get this guy and if they do get him I PRAY that he doesnt turn out like Igawa....what a waste he was. -_-
Ah, don't worry. his family says he won't go only to Yankees absolutely. Because fan and media are so noisy and insincere, it is also the image Japanese people have. And Yu's farther is an Iranian so he does not need to go to the place where discrimination is severe specially.
Whatever. Do you know what a two seam/cutter is supposed to do? That is NASTY. That pitch breaks from the inside strike zone into the batter hands. That is an excellent pitch.
Wow, didn't know people still read Bleacher Report articles. Yeah, I stopped reading that garbage when I read about some of Felix Hernandez trade packages. Royals get: Hernandez and M's get: Mike Moustakas, John Lamb, Wil Myers, and Brett Eibner. Makes sense for a rebuilding team to dump there talent that they worked so hard to get for 1 guy, right? Tony Batista doesn't even play in the MLB anymore. And Fielder? Really? You must have gotten that off of Bleacher Report as well? lol
@nickelbackrocks16 The Bleacher Report shows that other people is of the same opinion as I, majority rules. As I said previously, your opinion is your own, but I see no problem with their stance especially their "kung fu stance". Random videos of Japanese players on youtube is not a good representation of Japanese baseball players. After all, Youtube is meant for mostly irrelevant shocking display of everything bizarre. How many batters from Japan have you witness aside from Youtube viewing?
Have you seen the batters in MLB? their stances are just as ridiculous. We know these guys can hit, they won the WBC. Also, Ichiro Suzuki has a weird stance, in spite of it he broke all but one hitting record in the MLB.
@TabascoOE MLB batters batting stances are not even close to ridiculous as most of Japanese players are. They are good, sure, but not as great as you think they are once they come to the MLB. I admire Japanese pitchers, but most Japanese hitters that come over to the USA to play MLB doesn't really pan out well, besides Ichiro. I don't see nothing wrong with Ichiros state either. He has the top 10 best hitting mechanics in all of baseball, there's no doubt about that.
@nickelbackrocks16 If you say that Ichiro does not have an unorthodox stance then clearly there is no debate. Nakajima stance is fine in my eyes also. Position players from Japan have only recently broke the barrier in the MLB with the three most notable being Ichiro, Hideki Matsui, and Kazuo Matsui. There have only been ten Japanese position players that have joined the MLB so far. Also, have you ever heard of Kevin Youkilis from the BoSox? check his stance and tell me its not ridiculous.
@TabascoOE Kazuo Matsui sucks. And yes, I know KY probably has the dumbest looking batting stance in MLB . Naming 1 guy from the MLB doesn't support your argument when the mass majority of Japanese players have odd batting stances, weird leg kicks, ect.
@nickelbackrocks16 then how about, Tony Batista, Melvin Mora, Carlos Quentin, Denard Span, Prince Fielder, and Curtis Granderson. They had a list of them on the BleacherReport and guess what, Ichiro ranked 4th with the quirkiest batting stance. What are the mass majority? care to provide me with a list of Japanese players with weird batting stance? What it all comes down to is opinion. You think Ichiro doesn't have a weird stance and I think he does. There is no room for debate.
@TabascoOE And do I really need to make a list of Japanese players when you can look at the right side of your screen and see suggestions and click a random video of Japanese players hitting vs Darvish? Lots of videos on youtube to look at...
He is throwing the ball off of the inside tip of his index finger and his thumb is probably under the index finger. If he pronated some on release he would have a power sinker.
I love major league baseball. but it disappointed me a lot at last WBC. its the league where all the best players come and play from all over the world. it really gotta be the best. I hate to see them lose. Darvish is one of the best pithcher Japan has to offer right now but no, don't mess with greg maddux yet. He is the legend.
@bigpapiNY oh yeah. japan beat the hell ouf of USA last time. first time you guys got lucky because you guys had mlb umps and Davidson!! two biggest shittiest blown calls and there's goes the dirtiest winner! oh and dont forget ALLSTAR cheaters A-roid, Clemens, Pettitte, Bonds, McGwire...powered almighty by STEROIDs!! what a joke.
@bass3193 This is NOT a gyroball. This pitch is called a shuuto, think of it as an hybrid between a two seamer and a reverse slider.
The gyroball is supposed to spin like a bullet. Have you ever seen a bullet curve? i don't think so. An ideal gyroball goes straight and doesn't lose much speed as it goes through the air compared to a four seamer.
Go look at the report done on the gyroball. The "gyroball" varies depending on the axis it is spinning on. If you make it spin like a bullet,(or a spiraling football) it will spin like a bullet. If you make it spin on an axis that doesn't correspond to that of a bullet's axis, then it will break near the plate.
@bass3193 The documentary isn't wrong about the fact that the break varies on the axis it spins un, but it omits a very important fact: this is what happens when you fail at throwing a gyroball.
Even the man who created the theory of the gyroball says it was supposed to go straight, but it's just very hard throw it perfectly.
Matsuzaka threw an imperfect one intending to throw a cutter. If he was able to throw a gyroball, control it's irregular break, he would be unhittable
@poshko41 That's the definition of a shuuto, which can be loosely described as a reverse slider, much like what americans call a screwball, except it doesn't screw your arm.
A gyroball spins like a bullet so it doesn't break at all, just like a thrown football. It's a fastball with screw-like spin instead of backspin and has a higher chance of breaking a bat since it has better penetration power and can overpower a bat more easily than a normal fastball.
trust me that is not two seam fastball it's name should be shoot ball .shu in japanese mean shoot also 魔球 just mean the ball can not be hit in easy way.
