The ferry is the MV Suilven, which was a Caledonian MacBrayne ferry and she used to sail the minch from Ullapool in the Scottish Highlands to Stornoway on the Isle of Lewis. It is a great ship & I was on it many times in very rough seas. It is a far superior ship to it's replacement The Isle of Lewis ferry which seems to spend much of it's time in rough winter seas tied up at port.
The Suilven was sold by Caledonian MacBrayne to a company in New Zealand and this film was taken sailing the Cook Straight between the North & South Island of New Zealand. The ferry since then has been sold once again and is now operating out of Fiji on much calmer seas.
I used to enjoy travelling on rough seas as the cafeteria was always empty, so you could quickly get served, only hard bit was getting to a table with your food still on its tray
I have seen this vid before, same ''bin'' in foreground, and it did say where it was from-I don't think it was Canadian-either way, just bloomin' glad I was not on it-it would be ''seasick -a-go-go'' if I was on there.
That's NOT a Nfld Ferry!! It doesn't even have the Marine Atlantic LOGO on it, someone has said it is from somewhere in Europe, but that is definitely NOT a Nfld Ferry! I've been on them and it is NOT one of the ferrys that go to Nfld.
@jaydedhart It's driving me nuts too that there are morons vowing that this is a Marine Atlantic ferry. They must all be blind or have never seen a Marine Atlantic ferry!
Well I gotta say is if I had been on that I don't know *what* I would have done! One thing I know is that I'd have to stay one ... hahaha. But, and after saying which, I really don't know how I would have coped through all that and it would *definately* have put me off going on *any* ferry ever again (I would have flown back, hired a car and drove back on myself 400 miles than go back on the same ferry!) Great vid!
I rode the caribou to Port au Basque and we had 70 knot winds and 5 story waves it was quite a crossing. In traditional Newfie style we all had great party and got quite tight. This looks like the Saint Barbe Blanc Sablon ferry to Labrador.

Yup. That's Newfoundland. I've been in water like that in a 18 foot speed boat. (and Newfoundlanders have no reason to bullshit.)
