kia likely does outsell vw. most people have no idea how their cars work so they get sold on fancy marketing. kia is cheap garbage that is marketed to people as being "affordable" with "bi-weekly" payments. they are designed to last 100,000 kms and then be recycled back into soup cans. i would walk my fat ass to work before i bought a kia. and it's seven miles. volkswagen forever.

For those of you looking to buy a VW, I think you need to check out JDPower. They rate every car and car maker on short and long term dependability. The VW is one of the worse automakers on the list! Only Sizuki is worse than VW as for as dependability. Lexus and Toyota dominate the majority of the segment awards, with Toyota receiving five awards-Highlander, Prius, Sequoia, Solara and Tundra-and Lexus receiving four-ES 330 (in a tie with the Acura RL), LS 430, and SC 430.

i don't know why people who always hate on VW. Who wants to drive their car for the rest of their life if its a boring car like a toyota anyways. And fyi, i looked up the dependability ratings on the website and there are many brands worse than "SUZUKI", such as Hummer, Kia, Isuzu. Heck there are even more cars with the same ratings as the VW, such as scion which hardly anyone rags on, and so many people buy, and yet you're not on a personal vendetta against them.

Just returning the favor. Diesel people do nothing but spread lies about Hybrids. So I thought I would spread some truth. It's only fair. Like the fact that its cost nearly $150 to change the oil in a Jetta TDi.

All in all I really don't hate Diesel cars. To tell you the truth I could careless about them. It's not like they are out selling anything. Fact is, they only make up 5% of all the cars in the U.S.

By the way, Kia is outselling VW.

I have never owned a VW or any German car for that matter and never will. They are not bad cars. They make some of the nicest cars around. It's just that, they cost a lot to buy and maintain and have poor resale ratings. Example; 1998 BMW 740i cost $66k brand new and just 4 years later, in mint condition, you could buy it for under $15K. It's a very nice car, but I still wouldn't buy it at that point, because the oil changes alone would cost you nearly $800 every 15,000 miles!

I don't know where u herd it costs $150 to change the oil but i have a VW TDI and i get it changed at a VW dealer in madison WI. free inspection, wash and payed $68. Yeah its alittle more but i can go 7k miles on a oil change. im not saying it's the greatest car in the world. i would never buy a gas VW.. i can get 44-50mpg, saving $2000 a year from my old car, have it be safe, reliable, and resale isnt that bad i paid 7500 for it 2 years ago and kbb says 8100 today. respond back if you'd like

It's the new one Jetta owners were talking about. I was talking to them, and they said they had to spend about $150 to have the oil changed every 10,000 miles. VW Diesels aren't my cup of tea, but they are good on fuel and that's a good thing. If they made a diesel powered Acrua then I would think about it. Acura was developing a diesel engine, but scraped it when the economy crashed. They also scraped the NSX they were developing with a V-10, for the same reason.

I herar you MILESGTI. I was tboned in my MKV GTI by a Chevey going 40 mph and blowing a red light. Her whole front end was gone, on the ground where as my GTI had to get a new shock,strut ,and rim.I was still able to drive afterwards!most cars acutally get 4 star frontal. IBELIEVE20105 star is common in side. It's called crush-zone,crumple-zone safety I.Go drive one.There's no competitor in its market that has as much steel as a Jetta has on it.

I do agree with you that this Jetta is safe.  I would just expect that the Jetta's ratings exceed government standards if Volkswagen is claiming that it is so safe. I would also expect that a form of Vehicle Stability Control be a standard feature, rather than an option. As I'm sure you know, a vehicle cannot be named a top safety pick by the Insurance Institute of Highway safety without that feature. In regards to the Chevy that hit you, GM vehicles have some of the worst safety ratings.
