I honestly don't know why his wife didn't make an attempt to learn more about his activities, especially what was going on with the area where Elisabeth & her kids were kept. The basement area where they were was big enough to carry on all sorts of activities. If my man had that much space that he sealed off from everyone & kept under lock-n-key, I'd be suspicious. Even if he's not holding people captive, he could be building bombs or something. Either way, this story is truly sickening...

@wubblesful As the wise Edmund Burke once said "Evil triumphs when good men do nothing." Not many Germans were willing to take a stand against Hitler the same way that nobody was willing to take a stand against Fritzl. The Fritzl Case was like a small scale version of The Holocaust. Fritzl affected far less people than Hitler but he was every bit as cruel to his victims as the Nazis were. Similarly, there is a tyrant taking over called the EU and few people are taking a stand.

@wubblesful That is what Hitler did to the Jews. He demonized them. Fritzl is on a par with Hitler when it comes to evil even though Hitler's atrocities were worse. Hitler ruined a lot more people's lives than Fritzl because he was MORE POWERFUL as opposed to MORE EVIL. Fritzl also threatened to gas his victims if they tried to escape the dungeon. He seemingly borrowed a lot of his tactics from the Third Reich which was (as we all know) not exactly a woman or child friendly regime.

The thought of what they went through is on a par with the thought of what the unfortunate ones who suffered at the hands of the Nazis during WW2 went through. Austria's national pride has been damaged by yet another monster. First Adolf Hitler, then Wolfgang Priklopil and now Josef Fritzl. I've read a couple of articles about this monster, and his wife claimed she didn't know what he was doing. That is complete BS in my opinion. What did she think he was doing when he disappeared into that cellar, probably for hours at a time? What a coincidence that when the cellar was completed, Elisabeth disappeared without a trace. What a tragedy.

They were both EQUALLY EVIL in my opnion but when it comes to their actual ATROCITIES, Hitler was worse by far. There is no comparison. Fritzl imprisoned and abused EIGHT PEOPLE and was responsible for ONE DEATH whereas Hitler started a world war and had TENS OF MILLIONS OF PEOPLE imprisoned and abused and was responsible for ELEVEN MILLION DEATHS.
