Yes, galloping is great-we all love it, but screaming and shrieking sounds so amateurish-imagine if all the riders who ride horses in training were to shriek every time their horse got out of a canter! It is just so much nicer to gallop quietly, just you, your horse, your quiet companions, the thud of the hooves and no silly screaming!
too many screaming girls-why do silly girls scream when they get out of a canter? If you can't gallop confidently, don't shriek, as it sounds silly-do jockeys shriek? do endurance riders shriek? no, they just ride quietly.
@Oakleaf700 Shrieking doesn't necessarily = fear. Someimes it feels so grea that you cut loose and whoop. Same as riding with the top down in a sports car, sometimes it just comes out and you scream! I'm no "silly girl" but when my old man and I used to just open up and run, the freedom and the adrenaline would make me "wooooooooooooooooooo". Especially in groups. Jockey's have a job to do, and they need to stay focused. Don't be a poopy and loosen up! lol
@WannaBeLambs I love a gallop as much as anyone-but screaming is not normal. One thing that is good is to gallop with an I-pod. Heck, if someone was to scream like this people would think you had a screw loose! Even as a kid no one screamed.
My little son [aged 4 at the time] had a gallop, and he didn't scream!]
@Oakleaf700 You realize it's not the riders screaming, don't you? It's the spectators and the people filming, they're are cheering the riders on. People do that at shows too, like when someone wins, the people from their barn will cheer and clap for them.

absolutly stupid do u now think about how tired the horse is? TWENTY miles is WAY over the top i like my horses legs and like to keep them nice and INJURY FREE! for god sake some people think there machines not horses......
@lucygossiegander Twenty miles is nothing! My boyfriend works at a hunt kennels and their horses trot about that every day... I don't think this is really a 20 mile gallop though? Your horse literally would have to be a machine for that... Probably a 20 mile ride with some gallops...
hmm even tho i am a fairly new rider that would still be so much fun, especially to meet all the other riders and horses, im 19, ridden 3 times (because i didnt have the chance when i was younger) i can walk, trot and have done canter, not gallop yet, one day when i go on a hack i will learn how to gallop i hope... and get my own horse one day :) alritey good night.
Hehe, I have an off the track Anglo Arab who took two stakes races then retired because I knew the owner and I wanted him for myself lol. He would be so good at this xD
Wow......thats cool!! I live in Florida, and every year we have a 120 mile trail, across the state Florida!! Its Febuary 20 - the 26th, and on the 27th you ride at the beach!! Iv'e never been on it, but im going in 2011!
omg do you give those poor horses a break ever?? you better otherwise that is really sad and mean!! 20 miles is a lot and if you dont give those horses a break they wont do you any good!!
OMG this looks like soooo much fun!!! i have 2 go 2 one of these before i die :D it looks like a blast. so many horses and horse lovers..who wouldn't want to go??

@HazardousAmusement No they don't. The go 16.1, 16.2, 16.3, 17, 17.1. Because that means 16 hands and 1 inch, 16 hands and 2 inches, 16 hands and 3 inches, 17 hands, 17 hands and 1 inch.
yh i know but u still have to have enough money to look after one and i havent even got that lol u have no idea how lucky u r, all i can afford is just about 1 or 2 lessons/hacks a month

CRUD i just learned how to canter wit nohabds nvm gallop ! and that looks so much fun but i am not hte best cause i fell off 3 times in 7 days . 1:i supermaned off a canter cause the saddel slipped 2: i got thrown over the ponys neck while cantering and#: the horse spooked into a canter and jumped a pole then i treid to stop it from crashing into another horse but i ended up on my back and i had to move cause i was under the horse lol all different ponys and i am 12 . it was fun tho . lol ok bye

dont be such a bitch! Some of it was galloping, and who cares if the music is crap. I think its good and thats besides the point.
It was for Macmillan cancer support so have some heart!! Id like to see you ride!! They all did well considering there were over 3000 horses there. My horse would be off its tits - id still do it aswell, it looks like awesome fun and its for a good cause!!!! So kep your stupid comments to yourself!!!!!
i agree wit u cause there posture is pretty good cuz if u think bout it they had a pretty dam long day and everyones posture here would prob b bad after
A gallop is the fastest gait of the horse. It has four "beats" as opposed to, say, the trot, which is 2 beat, or canter, which is 3 beat. It goes 1 hindleg, other hindleg, front leg on the same side as the 1st hind, front leg on the same side as the 2nd hindleg. Then a period of suspension (no legs on the ground). So, if you're going to the right, it would be LH, RH,LF, RF, suspension. Each foot hitting the ground is a "beat".
ii'd love to take my new-iish horse there :L ii fully galloped hiim on a small fiield and he wouldn't stop, triied jumpiin the gate at the end of the fiield :S he's fast ii'll tell yhoo :L but gets well to pysyched up after a canter :L
This is cute and cool haha

17.4 is 18.1... the measurements go up to 16.1, 16.2, 16.3, then 17.1...
HazardousAmusement 2 years ago
Actually it goes 16.1hh, 16.2hh, 16.3hh then 17hh, not straight to 17.1hh

oops i forgot that one.. lol
HazardousAmusement 2 years ago
@HazardousAmusement No they don't. The go 16.1, 16.2, 16.3, 17, 17.1. Because that means 16 hands and 1 inch, 16 hands and 2 inches, 16 hands and 3 inches, 17 hands, 17 hands and 1 inch.

It was for Macmillan cancer support so have some heart!! Id like to see you ride!! They all did well considering there were over 3000 horses there. My horse would be off its tits - id still do it aswell, it looks like awesome fun and its for a good cause!!!! So kep your stupid comments to yourself!!!!!

can anyone explain the gallop term plz?is it to do something with the sprint of the horse or with the racecourse?many thnx
salllu 2 years ago
A gallop is the fastest gait of the horse. It has four "beats" as opposed to, say, the trot, which is 2 beat, or canter, which is 3 beat. It goes 1 hindleg, other hindleg, front leg on the same side as the 1st hind, front leg on the same side as the 2nd hindleg. Then a period of suspension (no legs on the ground). So, if you're going to the right, it would be LH, RH,LF, RF, suspension. Each foot hitting the ground is a "beat".

to put it in much simpler terms ...
all horses can gallop, horse racing is a measure of how fast they can gallop
galloping is like fast cantering, with an extra beat :)
