I last saw this episode when I was 8 years old & watched it with my Mom...back then I found it sad but I couldn't understand why my Mom was sniffling so much. Now I'm 22 and I re-watched this episode for the first time since then (having recently had a craving to watch all my favourite old t.v shows) and I CRIED MY EYES OUT! I don't know why but I was hiccuping and snotting and crying all over the place...I guess one can only relate to this when you are old enough to realize what true love is...

@xheartsliesfriendsx He got really drunk and slept with this girl who works at the copy place, because he and rachel were on a "Break" then the girl tells the guy who works with her, the guy tells his sister who works with phoebe and this girl tells her roomate that was Gunther, and Gunther tells Rachel hope it helps. :).... btw love this episode..

@BE4TNGU You need to have made a connection to Ross and Rachel to understand why someone would cry during this scene. They have a love like no other, so when they broke up, it was hard on even the fans. Plus, it's realistic. This is how a person would feel after a breakup.

To me both are wrong...its not a question if Ross was wrong with sleeping with a girl or what does it means by taking a break.....the problem was cause by a number of events....

1. Ross's jealousy over Mark ( thought i understand Ross cause of his last marriage)

2. Rachel not spending time with Ross (especially on their anniversary)

3. Rachel asking for a break (which Ross assumes they have broken up)

4. Mark being there with Rachel when the speak on the phone) cont...

God David Schwimmer is amazing in this scene, he is crying for real, that's very clear and when he gets down on his knees, I can't hold it in, I always cry. Jennifer Aniston said "David made me cry for real." He is such a talented man and David and Jennifer are amazing together. Ross did not cheat on her, he really thought she broke up with him, she even admits she told him she wanted a break, in the end, they kept them apart for way too long, it was so clear Ross adored her, the entire time.
