As well as gay marriage, perhaps Australian political parties should perhaps consider the legalisation of public nudity as well. We all know that boys have a penis and girls have a vagina, they were born with those, and no one should take any offence to seeing someone walking around in the nuddy in places such as Westfield Doncaster, for example, because they are perfectly normal, just like everyone else.

To allow same-sex marriage is to neglect the basic understanding of human sexuality. The biological form of the human body only makes sense when complimented by the opposite sex. The selfless sexual expression created through this ordered complimentarily enables an enriched and fruitful union, which is the basis for the definition of marriage. To reduce this to an equal rights debate is to ignore and misrepresent the human biological form.

@pougate bulldust. that is not an acceptable argument. the way their bodies "compliment" each other is completely unrelated. marriage today is a union of two people because they love each other. denying someone the right to love, and have that love recognised by law is just horrendous. an "enriched and fruitful union"? you're implying the only reason people marry is to reproduce, when in fact that's the worst reason. marriage should be based on love, not gender and genitalia.

@pougate How absurd do you want to appear? The "selfless sexual complimentary"? How is sexual expression among heterosexuals any more or less selfless than that among homosexuals? You say that it "enables an enriched and fruitful union", and yet there is no objective basis on which to define the word 'enriched' in this context; and the notion that marriage need be 'fruitful' is negated by the fact that there are married couples out there without children.

@pougate If you wish to imply that the only purpose for formally recognised relationships such in marriage is sexual reproduction, then I stand abhorred. Even in the animal kingdom, affectionate and sexual pair-bonding among members of the same sex has been well documented in a large number of species (indeed, some individuals are known to be predominately asexual). Same-sex relationships do not defy any "understanding of human sexuality".

@pougate "The basis for the definition of marriage".... the definition of marriage has taken 'many' forms throughout history. Indeed, in Ancient Rome, same-sex marriage was at one time permissible. Emperor Nero himself was said to have married a man named Sporus. The human biological form was not created by a divine hand, it is the product of evolution. Men and women do not have an intrinsic purpose to be together, for there is no intrinsic purpose to anything without a divine being.
