I assume it has something to do with L's past with the character 'B' in the "Another Note" book; Los Angeles: BB Murder Cases. 'B' or Beyond Birthday had the Shinigami eyes without actually making a trade with a shinigami and aspired to be L's ultimate case. This ordeal with B probably scarred L so much that he freaked out when "Kira" mentioned the Shinigami Eyes. Hope this helped! (:

I actually like this scream of L's better than the English dub version. But the Japanese version still rules, mainly because they try to make their characters "feel" real not be annoying when they are not supposed to be.

If anyone thinks that the English dubbed version of L is better than the Japanese sub... you need help. Still, the one on this video did better than the dub, mostly thanks to the editing that matched the gasping just right.
