@fraseos the suits of 2010 are not textile suits like the fast skin suits from 2000 to 2007. they have another kind of material so in 2010 a lot of swimmers swam under 21:64 when in 2007 it was impossible. So Cielo is not faster than popov... i,m 35 years old and my best time in 100 free style was 54:77 from the 2003 when i was 27. last year with 34 years old and the speedo fast skin suit lz racer elite i made 53:94, 54:11 and 54:27...with 34 years old !!this new suits are incredible

@LeandroKezan With "shame" i was meaning that athletes that don't have the unique talent that Alexander had, they'd obtained records and victories. An example of this is Paul Biedermann, a man that wouldn't won nothing without sui (in my opinion, of course). See ya ;)

si te hubieras fijado en la fecha q escribi ese comentario verias q hace mas de un año y medio y entonces no estaban aun los bañadores de poliuretano, ni los lz racer ni muxo menos los jaket italianos.. evidentemente yo me referia a los antiguos fast skin del 2000 al 2007 y esos te recortaban 4 o 5 decimas cada 100. popov ahora haria 20:50 con un jaket. saludos.

I was so happy in 2003 bcoz of this. Disappointed though that he was unable to maintain his performance into the Athens Olympic. Would love to see him on the podium there.

efectivamente el ultima fast skin q me compre fue hace año y medio y me costo justo 400 euros, un speedo de cuerpo entero sin mangas..y hace 3 años me compre un fast skin q solo era pantalon largo, como el q lleva popov en esta carrera y me ya me costo 200... eso si, vale la pena..te lo aseguro

un tio q nada 50 metros en 21:64 sencilamente no es humano...eso son 8,4 km por hora...el mejor velocista de la historia sin duda y sin usar bañadores FAST-SKIN...esos 21:64 equivaldrian a 21:44 con un fast skin

Actually... Popov didn't end his swimming career in Barcelona. He went to the 2004 Athens Olympic games and had a mediocre showing, not making the final in neither the 100 or 50 freestyle, and the 4x100 free relay that he anchored didn't win a medal. Not to deny his legendary career, but he didn't stop swimming in '03.

Popov sprint Freestyle dominance started by winning the Gold medal with a time of (21.91) at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games and returned to Barcelona for the 2003 World Championships to end his swimming career by winning the Gold medal with a time of (21.92)... Great story! Barcelona is where it all started and where he ended it... Amazing!
