I remember back in the 90s, the NME had a list of the lps of the 80s that should never have been made. Right at the top, along with Sandinista by the Clash, was Don't Stand Me Down. Wrong, Wrong, on both counts. That stupid rag had no clue. Was a great record in 85 and is a better one today. Look at the prices being charged for the cd now - 100+ pounds! Genius.

My God...so amazing....a great album.
Yeh...the album was slagged off by the music media ( 2 note bass players all ! )...but I mean..what the Fuck do they know.
They make us laugh though and laughter is a lovely thing.Van Morrisson, like Kevin, another great Irishman could not have done better or even Morrissey, another great Irishman or even John or Paul or Johnny or Ian or whoever..

'dont stand me down' got slated by all the so called muso journalists when it first came out and is widely regarded as a classic now..shows how much that bunch of morons know...come on kev..give us 'dont stand me up' sometime soon!

one of their very best. though in keeping with their criminal handling of this album , Universal have posted a clip which is barely audible.
...honestly, you just can't get the staff.
For anyone who's reallo interested in Dexy's ; buy a copy of Don't Stand Me Down; its like nothing you've ever heard before ; but if you like Dexy's you will listen to it until your dying days;go on - stop playing safe and experience the oddball genius of Kevin Rowland

Couldn't agree more. Got the re-release almost by accident a couple of years ago and was blown away, how can it be 25 years old, it sounds so fresh, it's a masterpiece.
