Partisan politics made to sound like a university lecture.
It's a genius strategy, and it's done by both parties. However, it is intellectually dishonest; you cannot be part of a republican or democrat "think-tank" and not be politically biased and intellectually biased.
a) if following the constitution is something you don't agree with that's fine but you now you can't bring up the constitution in the defense for your progressive ideas
b) the fact that the 16th amendment is greatly misconstrued and doesn't follow its original intent. The fact that birth-right citizenship is unconstitutional because your parents have to be under the jurisdiction of the us to be a citizen. There is no authorization for social security, medicaid, FDA, federal reserve.
It doesn't mention onions or noodles either yet they exist. It's a bunch of laws not holy scripture from a higher power. They're not founding fathers they're politicians the most admirable thing they did which more politicians should copy was to die.
You imagine that revolting against the english authority and starting a whole new country was in some way conservative and anti-progressive? How about "not taking any shit" and "not doing what was done before" as original intent?
In terms of the global political landscape, the Democratic Party is not left wing. And the only reason why the Republican Party gained the majority was only out of reaction to the incredibly corrupt Democratic majority in the seventies.
There's a reason they call the Democrats "The party of no ideas." I mean, you guys have been preaching and fighting for universal health care since 1948!! Give it up. You're not gonna get it, and if you do, god help us all. Absolutism enver works. An absolute free market and an absolutely powerful state can both be abuses of oru freedom. We must not trust either 100%. We must be pragmatists, like John Kenneth Galbraith was with regards to privatization or nationalization.
@pjbukem There is universal healthcare for illegal immigrants and poor people through Medicaid and the cost is out of control. Many other programs will have to be cut because of it. Where will the money come from if the number of people in the program are increased?
Abolitionists spent hundreds of years opposing slavery--was that "wrong" to do because it took a long time? Your standards are suspect, and reveal that your so-called pragmatism is based in trendiness NOT being morally sound or rational.
The closest the Dems had in this race to a libertarian Democrat was Mike Gravel. I support him strongly, but it's a shame there aren't any like him in Congress. Instead, the Democratic leaders are panderers and capitulaters to the Bush Administration and the Republicans.
Meanwhile, the left media, just as the right-wing media, continues its partisanship, only holding the other side accountable while ignoring bullshit from people on its own side. Robert Greenwald does this a lot, esp.
You've got paleocon and libertarian Republicans like Ron Paul and Jeff Flake and a handful of others in Congress in the RLC, but the Democratic Freedom Caucus doesn't really seem all that powerful or influential, in comparison. It's as if liberals have this paranoia where they automatically think "right-wing" whenever someone says the word "libertarian", even if it means on social issues. Republicans can easily be libertarian on economics, but why is it so hard for liberals on social issues??
Why are guys like Howard Dean calling themselves "new" Democrats? What's so new about them? Dean, as much as I like him and wanted his nomination in 04, is still a pretty liberal Democrat. If they're truly New Democrats, why don't they give up this statism for a change and move towards individualism when it comes to things like gun rights and smoking? The Religious Right already has social collectivism in the bag, so don't copy their way with other issues.
What I'd really like to see is the Democratic Party and the Left branch out a bit. You know, like have some "paleocon" leftists for a change, rather than just the same old progressives. Sure, progressivism is good, but morons like Hilary turn it into statism and turn big gov't into a sort of "nice" Big Brother. Ralph Nader (as much as I respect him) kind of seems to be a statist, too, thinking gov't is the answer to all our problems with corporate America.

Minority-Majority my ass. Will whites be able to claim minority status once our population dwindles into nothing?
