The 'creation of life' is a natural urge for many people. (not me btw) The base aim of every species is survival. However, Human minds have evolved so far beyond those base urges and become so intelligent that they can question these urges and even come to the conclusion that they would rather not 'create life'. They are also so intelligent that they can come up with amazing ideas, philosophies and fantasies right out of our imaginations. Nothing has a purpose beyond that which we give it.

Just an observation....I have looked thru several Hitchens screens and I have observed that the supporters of Hitch write very intelligent posts...but the "religious" people sound judgemental and, well, hateful. @onefodderunit Well, we are the ones who make the purpose of our lives; you have a family, you live for your family's well-being, you love someone, you live to make him/her happy, you see people's plight and wants to help, you live to make their life easier, etc.
Life's manifestation might not have a singular purpose by itself, but we do have a reason to live, and it's different for everyone.

I realize that nuance is lost on you completely, but I will explain. There is sufficient evidence that abiogenesis could have happened the way I described to tentatively accept it as true. The evidence is not strong so It's entirely possible that it did NOT happen that way. All it would take would be some strong evidence in a different direction to convince me that this belief is false.

@onefodderunit It's much more likely that 'chance' would slowly convert self-replicating protein molecules to what we call 'life' than an all-powerful magical super-being would appear out of nothing at all.
We actually have an understanding of the physics and chemistry involved in the former. I don't even need faith to believe it, but that's mainly because I'm not so stupid to believe that I couldn't be wrong.
The latter? You can't even prove that it exists, let alone explain how it came to be.

My Dad died with Cancer in 2010. He was just an ordinary man. He also did not had much qualification and wealth as Christopher Hitchen had.
