  • Respond to this video... Sgt. Alvin C. York is my great, great, great uncle, and that's how I got into researching him, and I'm proud of him. =) "May God bless his soul."

  • Alvin York is on my family tree.

  • @Mu51ch3r3 ;YOU SHOULD TELL HIM TO GET DOWN BEFORE HE FALLS OUT OF IT. HE'S TOO DARN OLD FOR PERFORMING STUNTS LIKE THAT. LOL

  • OH YEA THATS MY GREAT GREAT GREAT UNCLE!!!!!!! im so proud

  • loved the movie about him! w/ Gary Cooper - watched it two nights ago. nice stuff there.

  • He doesn't look a thing like Gary Cooper!

  • Alvin York would not have allowed the film to be made unless Gary Cooper portrayed him. At least Copper was tall and lanky like him; he got the Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance. Alvin York also insisted on a young and "upright" girl to portray his wife, Gracie Williams. Joan Leslie was only 16, the same age as the latter when Alvin became smitten with her, when she toke the role.

  • I was kidding

  • sorry, hemming57 - I took you at face value. Some folks have a problem if the person isn't a dead ringer for the person they're portraying. Still, Gary Cooper could have grown a little mustache.

  • Gary Cooper with a mustache???? The public never would have gone for it.

  • sargent york is amazing

  • my great grandfather was in sgt yorks' company.

  • I'm from SGT York's hometown and work at the National Guard Armory named in is honor. I know his two sons very well. If you're ever in the Jamestown, TN area, stop in and let's talk.

  • I think every American family should watch the movie with their children. It's one of the TRUE American classics.

BTW, Asby69, I'm about 3 hours from you. We visit the area quite frequently. Drop me a line sometime.

  • Where ya from?

  • Washburn- Grainger County (Just over the Clinch from Rutledge) Drop me an email (username plus gmail dot com)

  • @Tes2fy YEA I AGREE. I HAVE A DVD COPY OF IT

  • @Tes2fy YEA I AGREE. I HAVE A DVD COPY OF IT ALVIN YORK WAS A TRUE CHRISTIAN MAN. GOD BLESS HIS MEMORY

  • Is Andy York alive and still a State Park Ranger at Alvin York's home and grist mill? I met and talked with him back in 1985. Very nice guy!

  • Yes, Andy is still alive and well.

  • Interesting piece on an American hero. (There was a show back in the 80's that actually spliced bits of the old Gary Cooper film with Bowie's "Heroes" playing in the background. Trust me, it was very cool.)
