i am really thinking about buying a palm pre... but there are still few things that could be improved... like the quality of the camera (no video??) or the keyboard... so i am not sure, wheather to buy it or not. this question really bothers me xD

got this the first day it came out. There are some things I dont like about it but overall I like it. Always wanted an Iphone but my contract on sprint prevented me. So this was the next best thing.

Hmmm thats funny, im using my white 16gb Iphone right now and i got the red hot chili peppers playing from it while im browsing the web in safari and all i do is text so let me assure you you can play music from the iphone and use ANY function of the phone from texting,mail,calender, hell even using the damn camera while listening to music.
Too bad you can only have music + 1 app at a time. That means no uploading photos to facebook while surfing, etc. hypePhone has a pretty UI, but in terms of functionality it blows.

it don't have direct connect, so it just another phone to me. I have the ipod touch, so I don't need a phone that can beat iphone, I need one that can do more then the iphone. Just another touch phone to me. Get a ipod touch, and keep your phone for what its made for. calling people. I ipod touch doses everything. Just can't make calls. I can text, e-mail,download apps, music. its a great tool, for a sidekick. The screen is large, the keys are finger friendly,
I can tell from every video that that music player is not gonna be as smooth as the iphone at all, just look at how it stutters when they try to cover flow.

I love my iPhone and I think it's a great phone. I am happy palm came out with this phone cuz it pushed apple to up it's game and palm will have to up there's when the new iPhone comes out. So the consumer wins either way
WOW, it IS a clone, look at the user interface....it even has the iphone menu at the bottom of the screen. Are youy aware that the guy who designed it is an ex-apple engineer and apple sued this company over copying many of the iphone's features????? The only "different" approach is the slide out keyboard. Anyway, it's a decent phone if you want an iphone alternative.
This phone may be better than the iPhone...but it's not an iPhone killer, are people really dumb enough to think the iPhone hype will dissapear when this is released? How many other 'iPhone killers' have come and gone? HTC Touch Diamond, Touch HD, Samsung Omnia, no doubt the feature sets of these phones blew the iPhone away, but it's going to take more than this to kill the iPhone...the iPhone changed the game...the palm Pre is an evolution...the only way to kill the iPhone is with a revolution.
Just like the iPhone, the Pre can have a load of apps developed for it to match the iphone. The iphone is NOT the first phone to support "applications". On top of that, it takes the iphone's hardware features and adds to it with the gesture area and a slider keyboard. The iPhone has definitely set a new standard with mobile phones, and we should be glad companies are stepping it to up to meet the standard or exceed them.
i cant wait to get this phone for my birthday, i love vertical qwertys and the webOS and the touch screen looks so new and refreshing. So much better then all the crap LG touch screen phones, can't wait to even try this out!
Seriously, read the reviews, pretty much every tech blog or any review for that matter trashes the storm. It was a rushed to market product to compete with the iPhone and I believe even today is still in beta form. Wait for the pre.

I love palmOS too...but someimes it crashes on my treo...ANYWAYS, it's called Palm WebOS...supposedly the successor to PalmOS??? (Someone correct me if i'm wrong)...
WebOS is not the successor to PalmOS, to call webOS a successor is implying it is running the next in line version of PalmOS. WebOS is as different from PalmOS as Winmo and Android are. WebOS is Linux based, a completely different business model.
Unfortunately it does slow down when swithes between apps (like in 1:48). Too bad. There are some phones with gorgeous interfaces and none that are truly snappy. Even slightest sluggishness pisses me off.

I own an iPhone and love it but will state this well known fact. The iphones screen is bigger to encompass the on screen keyboard that is needed for typing. The pre has a real keyboard thus no need for the extra screen real estate. This phone looks slick as hell, but hate typing in portrait mode. Give me a landscape keyboard and I'm sold!

I like touch flow 3D, but that's a VERY ugly OS underpinning the whole thing, and it comes thru when you start going deeper inside, using more functions and such...
plus as much as I like the HTC diamond, and the HD, they still use resistive touch screens, they can do better than that, specially in their price range. And the pro is too fat.
I'm a big windows mobile fan, and although its been doing multi-tasking for years, it is no where as sweet and simple as the Palm Pre. They basically took a good thing and made it WAY better. Good Job Palm!
It is very difficult to use the htc's slide out keyboard with one hand. I know, I've owned one. If you are very dextrous you might be able to type some text but unless your thumb is six inches long, your not going to be able to reach the touch screen. You don't need to call people stupid because they like a different phone than you. I you like the htc then buy it but there's no need for insults.
i have the pro and its great, the v. key board is great for one hand and the hard key board is great for 2 hands for quicker texting and better web browsing, but i had the mogul too so im a little board with wm, but still like it.
i dont like the keyboard on this one i didnt like it with my treo and when on the web with the inverted screen, its not going to be fun. whats really gunna suck is when we all get this phone and the new one comes out a few months later :(
i mean to be fair YOU CAN listen to music in the background of an iPhone..but you cant do much else! if you have at the very least a semi-productive life an iPhone is not even a viable option. the lack of an actual or at the very least a landscape keyboard is annoying.

399 reported release price for Sprint it will release as CDMA on Sprint and then release the GSM version. Overseas release will be GSM and not locked to any Carrier.
Just a correction. The guy said that the Pre can do stuff that the other phone (iphone) doesn't do, like listen to music while doing other things. You can listen to music and do other things with the iphone. Just a correction.

I'm finally able to say: This phone is beautiful! I have an iPhone and I must say that it is the only one who has truly satisfied me, because of the beauty of the design and the simplicity and the flow. I've used other Windows Mobile devices and they sucked. Laggy and slow... But the Palm Pre seems amazing!

There is not going to be a law suit. Companies like that aren't that stupid that they wouldn't know if they could get sued or not... Apple can't sue them.
Why don't you google it dummy. There are quite a few features in iPhone which are IP protected and it seems that Palm Pre has violated few of this features. The most visible one seems to be the pinch feature uses to zoom in and zoom out webpages and images.
I must admit, I own an iphone and this phone looks very promising. If they don't get sued then i'll get one lol.
Do you believe everything you read on the web? :) Companies try to patent EVERYTHING just in case. I've read this patent and its so vague its ridiculous. Palms first treo would have violated. What about the open source technology that apple pushes as their own (such as the cubed desktop in OSX), never hear anyone talking about that.

Why would you need a sync program with this phone? Isn't that kind of the point of this phone: very web oriented. Calendar, Media etc is synced over the web.
I saw a video of a CES demo and some dude asked the demo girl to display a video with flash. She pretended to be confused, and so he asked her to go to youtube and, alas, it couldn't load the video. That's what I mean by flash. Now, if it'll install flash automatically, that'd be cool. But considering it just gave the 'flash must be installed to view this video' message, I'm sure they'll work that out... Hopefully.
this does look like the greatest thing since sliced cheese...but i think they slipped up in one area...why make it slide width-wise? why not make it slide length-wise? that way, the keyboard isn't all smooshed up little beady buttons? and you'd have the screen in landscape mode, which would be better for typing also. Other than that, kudo's palm...i thought you guys were sinking like the titanic...but all along you were pulling a steve job's type maneuver! nicely done so far...

goddamnit you *CAN* play music while using other apps on the iphone, AND control the ipod from within other apps as well by just double-clicking the damn home button. All you have to do is set the appropriate settings for the home button in general settings first.

it will do urls in landscape (it has an accelerometer and webkit for full web browsing). It does video (3megapixel)Also it has wireless sync, and wireless charging.

Search on youtube for - "ted multi-touch" And watch the videos. That is the first real showing of the modern multi-touch concepts and they are open to everyone.
I've been looking at more videos and I think this phone is actually better than I thought at first. The Pre needs a video recording ability and tethering ability. Also have something like the app store, that would be great. I really don't like the style of the phone. Looks like a kid's toy. At least if the phone is round, make the screen round too. IDK.

Okay the make or break for me is going to be the keyboard. By looking at it I think the keyboard is that of the Centro or the Palm Treo Pro and I can't get down with the soft rubber cramped feel. I have a Treo 800W and I LOVE the keyboard on it...the hard plastic. I'm going to have to feel the Pre before I can jump on the bandwagon. I do love my Palm Treo...so I wouldn't mind an all touch screen Palm. Even if it's not Windows based...as long as it's not Palm OS based!
The first touch screen was not invented by Palm, its was made by HP with the HP-150. Plus Apple actually made a screen long before Palm with the Apple Newton. Its not a clone, it has a different concept/approach to the purpose of a mobile device.

I love palmOS too...but someimes it crashes on my treo...ANYWAYS, it's called Palm WebOS...supposedly the successor to PalmOS??? (Someone correct me if i'm wrong)...

WebOS is not the successor to PalmOS, to call webOS a successor is implying it is running the next in line version of PalmOS. WebOS is as different from PalmOS as Winmo and Android are. WebOS is Linux based, a completely different business model.

Unfortunately it does slow down when swithes between apps (like in 1:48). Too bad. There are some phones with gorgeous interfaces and none that are truly snappy. Even slightest sluggishness pisses me off.

I own an iPhone and love it but will state this well known fact. The iphones screen is bigger to encompass the on screen keyboard that is needed for typing. The pre has a real keyboard thus no need for the extra screen real estate. This phone looks slick as hell, but hate typing in portrait mode. Give me a landscape keyboard and I'm sold!

I can't wait to get this phone. I hated the iphone, had it for a week and it sucks. It's virtual keyboard is stupid. I really love the fact that this phone as a QWERTY keyboard and I LOVE the fact that it runs LINUX!!!!!

I like touch flow 3D, but that's a VERY ugly OS underpinning the whole thing, and it comes thru when you start going deeper inside, using more functions and such...
plus as much as I like the HTC diamond, and the HD, they still use resistive touch screens, they can do better than that, specially in their price range. And the pro is too fat.

I'm a big windows mobile fan, and although its been doing multi-tasking for years, it is no where as sweet and simple as the Palm Pre. They basically took a good thing and made it WAY better. Good Job Palm!

It is very difficult to use the htc's slide out keyboard with one hand. I know, I've owned one. If you are very dextrous you might be able to type some text but unless your thumb is six inches long, your not going to be able to reach the touch screen. You don't need to call people stupid because they like a different phone than you. I you like the htc then buy it but there's no need for insults.

i have the pro and its great, the v. key board is great for one hand and the hard key board is great for 2 hands for quicker texting and better web browsing, but i had the mogul too so im a little board with wm, but still like it.
i dont like the keyboard on this one i didnt like it with my treo and when on the web with the inverted screen, its not going to be fun. whats really gunna suck is when we all get this phone and the new one comes out a few months later :(

i mean to be fair YOU CAN listen to music in the background of an iPhone..but you cant do much else! if you have at the very least a semi-productive life an iPhone is not even a viable option. the lack of an actual or at the very least a landscape keyboard is annoying.
im not saying the iphone didnt change the mobile game or isnt a brilliant device i am just saying that the pre seems to be waaaaaaay better..let's just see how it plays out once its released.

nothing special. i like the multi tasking and the contacts integration, but i think the keypad is a waste of space on this phone. the keys are so small! butttt, it's on sprint, which isn't cool.

399 reported release price for Sprint it will release as CDMA on Sprint and then release the GSM version. Overseas release will be GSM and not locked to any Carrier.

Just a correction. The guy said that the Pre can do stuff that the other phone (iphone) doesn't do, like listen to music while doing other things. You can listen to music and do other things with the iphone. Just a correction.

why sprint? why pull an apple & at&t move. hope there's a gsm version so the whole world can enjoy it and boost sales. apple and nokia is available worldwide, i would palm also wants this, but ifs stuck with sprint, then am disappointed.

I'm finally able to say: This phone is beautiful! I have an iPhone and I must say that it is the only one who has truly satisfied me, because of the beauty of the design and the simplicity and the flow. I've used other Windows Mobile devices and they sucked. Laggy and slow... But the Palm Pre seems amazing!

Why don't you google it dummy. There are quite a few features in iPhone which are IP protected and it seems that Palm Pre has violated few of this features. The most visible one seems to be the pinch feature uses to zoom in and zoom out webpages and images.
I must admit, I own an iphone and this phone looks very promising. If they don't get sued then i'll get one lol.

Do you believe everything you read on the web? :) Companies try to patent EVERYTHING just in case. I've read this patent and its so vague its ridiculous. Palms first treo would have violated. What about the open source technology that apple pushes as their own (such as the cubed desktop in OSX), never hear anyone talking about that.

Why would I not beleive it it's on a reputable website. Yea it's ridiculous but its apple's IP. Apple patented the Iphones multitouch capability because of companies like palm. Why don't you visit the official website and tell me what you think. Does it look familiar? Everything from panning to double tap zoom to pinch zoom in and out. What a copy cat. Palm is very close to extinction what choice do they have? . I wish them luck on this one.

You don't really know what you are talking about.
There is no legal action and there won't be any occurring.
A major tech website (Engadget) had patent lawyers investigate the issues and found SEVERAL Palm patents that the iPhone may be infringing, so if Apple starts a lawsuit, Palm will start their own.

Why would you need a sync program with this phone? Isn't that kind of the point of this phone: very web oriented. Calendar, Media etc is synced over the web.

I saw a video of a CES demo and some dude asked the demo girl to display a video with flash. She pretended to be confused, and so he asked her to go to youtube and, alas, it couldn't load the video. That's what I mean by flash. Now, if it'll install flash automatically, that'd be cool. But considering it just gave the 'flash must be installed to view this video' message, I'm sure they'll work that out... Hopefully.

this does look like the greatest thing since sliced cheese...but i think they slipped up in one area...why make it slide width-wise? why not make it slide length-wise? that way, the keyboard isn't all smooshed up little beady buttons? and you'd have the screen in landscape mode, which would be better for typing also. Other than that, kudo's palm...i thought you guys were sinking like the titanic...but all along you were pulling a steve job's type maneuver! nicely done so far...

goddamnit you *CAN* play music while using other apps on the iphone, AND control the ipod from within other apps as well by just double-clicking the damn home button. All you have to do is set the appropriate settings for the home button in general settings first.

ya but that's just the music. it's by no means opening up every app in your phone and have them running at the same time.
i love the iphone (it was an industry changer and way ahead of its time) but i'm loving every bit of what i've seen from palm so far.
I can't wait for new Android phones, this phone, and i'm sure Apple's working on a new iphone OS.

it will do urls in landscape (it has an accelerometer and webkit for full web browsing). It does video (3megapixel)Also it has wireless sync, and wireless charging.
It also has Microsoft office.

Why do people think Apple invented multi-touch? THEY DID NOT, the gestures you see them doing and now used in other products were not made by apple!!!!
Apple make fine products but I am sick of people thinking they do it first.
Search on youtube for - "ted multi-touch" And watch the videos. That is the first real showing of the modern multi-touch concepts and they are open to everyone.

I've been looking at more videos and I think this phone is actually better than I thought at first. The Pre needs a video recording ability and tethering ability. Also have something like the app store, that would be great. I really don't like the style of the phone. Looks like a kid's toy. At least if the phone is round, make the screen round too. IDK.

Okay the make or break for me is going to be the keyboard. By looking at it I think the keyboard is that of the Centro or the Palm Treo Pro and I can't get down with the soft rubber cramped feel. I have a Treo 800W and I LOVE the keyboard on it...the hard plastic. I'm going to have to feel the Pre before I can jump on the bandwagon. I do love my Palm Treo...so I wouldn't mind an all touch screen Palm. Even if it's not Windows based...as long as it's not Palm OS based!

The first touch screen was not invented by Palm, its was made by HP with the HP-150. Plus Apple actually made a screen long before Palm with the Apple Newton. So stop with all this who made the first touch screen crap! Apple may not have invented the first touch screen, but they most definitely re-invented.
