  • Nvidia recalled the geforce 8400m they were known to die.

  • no way I think my DT teacher had a laptop just like this, was wondering why he got a new Song one.

  • Its over 9000!!!!!!! c! no wonder its failing :P

  • hit it a couple of times and it will work

  • pony's pooping rainbows! XD lmao

  • I have the same problem right now :(

Medion laptop nvidia gforce graphics, my screen is shitting rainbows and black lines to. Plz help

  • I ha

  • i had that too.

its is your motherboard replace it end its gone.

TIP: never buy a Dell anymore because its a cheap motherboard inside Dell.

  • problem is likely due to tiny cracks in the video chips BGA solder contacts...the cracks are due to metal fatigue, constant heating and cooling of the graphics chips...some of HP's DV series laptops also have this problem...i've actually fixed a few DV series laptops by sticking the motherboard in the oven...that may sound strange, but it does work on some with video problems...not saying it would on your Dell but, if your warranty is out you really dont have much to lose..

  • call the place that makes it thats what my uncle does he gets a new one and his money back also make sure your card is in right or your screen is broken

  • well its a Dell. thats what they do, they break. we've had 3 Dells break on us already. my HP laptop has a sick nvidia gforce graphics card. i recommend them.

  • Well I would've thought you had learned your lesson on the first one.

  • had this laptop for a few years now, and i abused it to hell 8400m gs even went as far as overclocking it and no problems of continuous abuse. I'd say it depends on how it well it was made before distribution, and with computers there are possibilities of hardware crashing, especially within the first year, so it's good to have warranty!

  • ok it can be a virus or your graphic card is fried or totaly gone

  • What is he actually talking about?I wonder..........

  • doesn't look good... tried to hit it hard?

  • First of all, I love that you've posted a video of your malfunctioning laptop! LoL!! I've had problems with my laptop recently too...I was considering the Dell Inspiron, but decided against it after a demonstration model convinced me it was unreliable (the screen wouldn't come on). I hope your laptop issues don't amount to the ones I had with mine; and best of luck getting yours repaired! Best wishes ~ Kt ;-)

  • Yeah, I read that many NVIDIA graphics cards are faulty. Best to avoid a laptop with NVIDIA graphics card in the meantime..

  • yeah dude your graphic card is dead there is alot of reason's why it died but i think it over heated. oh and UKesterBrown your comment was lol

  • My first glance is either your graphics card isn't properly slotted into the rest of the hardware but since it's a laptop, that's generally not the case (because everything's tightly snuggled in).

Definitely a hardware issue to say the least.

  • it could be a lose connection betwene youre graphic card and youre screen.. i had the same problem once.. or eather youre screne is just done for.. the problem kinda looks the same so its prop one of those two problems

  • I'm not a techie, so I'd give it a couple good whacks with a rubber mallet. I do like beachedmud's comment too!

  • yeah, I think you're hosed. Definitely check the warranty. LOL!! "My computer's on mushrooms or something."

  • You seriously fried ya graphics card. Prolly overheated. Check if the warrenty still works, and if so, return it to the company and they will fix it for free. May take a while though.

  • Oh I know the problem:

    It's running Windows.

  • Sam, I think your assesment of the videocard going bad makes the most sense seeming connecting it to an external monitor doesn't help

  • That doesn't look too good, Sam! Maybe you should get the hard drive out, connect it to a PC and save your data first, before trying anything else. Good luck bro!

  • fortunately i backed up all my stuff onto a portable HD just before the crash :D

    Good timinG!

  • I'm glad to hear that. So it's not THAT bad after all!

  • So, no Touhou for a while I guess XD

    I'm still gunna be practicing

  • i think touhou burned the video card to be frank xD

  • Touhou?

  • my computer had something like this

the screen stayed black when it was on

    and eventually he stayed off

it was a computer virus that crashed my disc

  • first of all it's a dell that is fail enough on it's own

  • I think your computer is stuffed now, Sam. =(

  • all these people dont have a clue, I am the expert and I can tell you one of these 2 problems you have

    1) a bad gpu, graphic card which cant be fixed and to find out you have to hook the pc into an external monitor and if the same happens on ex monitor it means your motherboard is bad

    2) a bad screen, if in the external monitor everything looks fine then you need to replace the lcd screen.

some guy said "hard drive" that's just bullshit man

  • i just tried connecting an ex monitor.

I still get problems, so my gpu must be fried :S

  • exactly. there is still 1 chance left, some dells use the graphic as a daughter board which means they seperate them from the motherboard if so you can just obtain that rather than replacing the whole motherboard. to find out rip off the laptop keyboard and have a look ..otherwise if built-in just get a new mobo from ebay.

  • ponies pooping rainbows are a serious problem

  • Bwa ahha Then its only a matter of time your's gets stuffed too :P

  • reset the system management controller

plug in an external display and remount the on-board videocard.

boot to a disc and try to reformat

if that doesn't work... throw it at chuck noris

  • have you tried to plug it into a separate monitor to see if that helps anything?

  • i just tried that now.

The screen showed rainbow colours and was frozen :(

    Though Windows seems to start.

  • Hey Sam do a google search for "Nvidia 8400 recall" there was court case in the states with a settlement not long ago started with Apple people. You can get it repaired for free because of the recall.

  • thanks! I'll have a look!

  • Either loose signal cables on the motherboard, or your screen inverter is fucked.

  • screen inverter doesnt show colors, it only deals with backlight, if anything goes wrong with inverter it would only deal with "light" so light flickers, no backlights but not this problem.

  • Ai, I would say it would be a hard drive problem after reading the description, since that sort of thing happened to me before. But, it went completely black and didn't give me the mushroom colors. o.o My problem was the hard drive and it had to be removed, but thats probably not the case with yours Sam.

Try calling Tech support, say politely, and if you get a person where you can't understand them, ask if they can transfer you to another person where you can. Trust me, past experiences xD

  • Is it me, or did I see the Blue Screen of Death?

  • i think i saw it too

  • that's windows for ya....

excuse me while I peruse through the forums and the general internet at high speeds while nearly invincible to all forms of damaging software.....

    MUAHAHAHHAAHAH

Did you perhaps drop it or jar a wire loose?

  • I agree with Random 12113 - lt looks like a loose graphics card/connector.

  • oh is this what happend when you were playing that game! omg i had no idea it was this bad

  • My mom's Dell's screen bugged, too. Dells aren't very good.

  • I had this problem a couple times at work, I am IT so i see alot of problems. Anyhow, TTYL. i hope this helps

  • bad connection on the connector on the graphics card or the monitor easy fix - simply open the computer up and find the graphics card (do this first, as trying the monitor first could cost $300) make sure the serial cable is securely in place. close up the computer, and see if it works again. if not, take this to a shop so you are not responible if the screen breaks. remember, 90% of computer problems are loose connections!

  • Yes, this guy knows what he's talking about. He fixes computers for a living.

  • i had a similar problem, like the first seen. the screen goes all like milky and the computor keeps on going. (i notised from the sound from a youtube video. the screen whent "milkey" and whan i pressed space the sound stopt and resumed)

i sent my fujitsu siemens in and they changed the motherbord and it workt fine again :)

  • theres your problem right there. its a dell

  • My brother had a problem similar to this, except on an Acer laptop. His was able to be fixed by replacing the screen. However, yours might be something else like a hard drive failure as people are saying.

  • I wouldn't associate this with the HDD, if the sounds still play then Windows is still working.

I would say that its the screen...

Can't you send it off to Dell Sam?

(It could just even be a loose connection to the screen.)

  • Graphic problem tbh - looks like you may need to buy a new laptop.

  • That's bad man... Doesn't look good.. :((

  • "like my computer is on mushrooms or something and seeing, you know, ponies pooping rainbows." xD lol hope you get it fixed soon! :3

  • have fun repairing it, if its not the grafik card, then your lucky, if its the grafic chip, then you can start thinking about buying a new notebook because dell puts in their own grafic chips and not the standarized ones like in toshiba or worthmann

and it looks like a grafic chip faliure to me :)

  • Same thing happened to my old iMac, its still sitting on the floor doing nothing and a repair disk stuck inside too that I cannot get out. It's dead :(

I ended up buying a new one, don't know whether it's worth repairing the old one.

  • That does look like an HDD fail. Especially the sound and shit. Go to a shop and get it fixed, Sam.

  • Oh, yeah, the boot. You can`t fix this by yourself. You need professional help with that.

  • Ah, I had this problem too a while ago.

Your best bet is to take your Lappy to the repair shop. When I had this problem, my harddisk was fucked.
