@dttruon - I've been banned from Reef Central since like 2006 for someone accusing me of being a commercial seller (nope, sorry, and not going to take that abuse). Renee...if I mention Renee, I'm probably talking about my wife. Nope, Matt Pedersen here - mwp / mpedersen on most forums.
@rickross2231 - I'm not at liberty to discuss what I actually paid. The retail price that was shown briefly on Blue Zoo was around $2500, and I know bids of up to $7000 came in.
@jetraymond - still very much alive and well - only way it will die now is old age or act of God. It is still a "Maroon Clown" and is currently paired with another White Stripe Maroon from Fisherman's Island. The patterning may or may not be genetic - breeding will determine that with time. If you think of it simply like an "albino", the fact that it can mate being the only one in captivity makes more sense. Genetically, probably more complex than an albino though.
@dragonryder99 WOW thats so cool man well then how do they get them like that then? do they get them from the wild like that? or are they breed like that!? do you no?...... =]
@CandyFishRave I think people are trying to breed them but it wont work because they only mate with their own species.Thats what i heard im not sure thats 100% sure because i cant find any websites on them.
@dragonryder99 thats so cool i may end up looking them up for more info thats so cool love this fish i will so be geting a pair of them as soon as i see them again cant wait!... =]
@pleco652 - no one knows if it's genetic or an aberrant one-off. The fact that 2 have been found, and more are rumored to be out there, suggests a genetic component.
@chipmunkslikewood1 - the fish was collected by the SEASMART program in Papua New Guinea (PNG), imported by Pacific Aqua Farms, and retailed by Blue Zoo Aquatics. The Lightning Maroon is part of an ongoing, publicly shared breeding project - do a Google search for The Lightning Project ;) This fish is currently paired with a large White Stripe Maroon of unknown geographic origin....long term goals is to have it spawning with a PNG Maroon.
I am glad to hear that it is still alive and well. I feel really good about the fact that myself and the company who brought it in decided to send it to you! I felt it was a male simply because all clownfish are born protandrous hermaphrodites. With that being said, all the experts who looked at it when it came in including myself could not conclusively sex the specimen. This is the reason for my "default" I.D of Male.
@WraySting - STILL a cool fish! Have been trying to get a couple more PNG Maroons to go with it....I have 4 juvies I'm playing around with as well. Curious, what's your take on the sex of this fish?
Hey Matt Pederson, congrats! beautiful fish. I am certain he will be taken care of very well. GL on the lightning project.

This is so frigging cool. Does it have any eating habits or behavior habits that are set aside from regular Maroon Clowns?
JobForAColton 4 months ago
@JobForAColton - it is in every respect no different than a regular white stripe maroon clownfish. Just has unique / aberrant striping.

are these actual natural fish or genetically made to look like this?
pleco652 11 months ago
@pleco652 - natural. Two have been found and collected in Papua New Guinea. This is the only one that is still alive.
