its not a normal occurrence - in this case it only happened because AMTK needed to detour some trains into NYG instead of NYP.
Beyond that even during the weekends this was shot the Maple Leaf and the LSL were detoured around the world and were not towed by MN - they jsut had MN pilot crews on board.....
Where do these LSL trains go to after Pelham? Were they just using the NEC to or from Penn Station and then taking the New Haven Line through Pelham or were they making a huge detour to New Haven? Also why is the train called 149 and then not posted in the timetables anywhere?
The lSL (49/48) and the Maple Leaf (63/64) were running as follows:
NB: Towed "backwards" EAST out of Penn by an electric motor up to "SHELL" (New Rochelle). Then, the electric motor would be cut away so it could run back West to Harold/Sunnyside/Penn for its next assignment. The regular consist would then run West from SHELL down MN's NHV line to Woodlawn then south down the Harlem to MO, then around the Wye and North up the Hudson to Spuyten Duyvil where the train resumes normal route....
When at CP-12, go straight (towards GCT) instead of making the usual right towards Penn Station (Empire Connection). Continuing down the Hudson Line to CP-6 (Mott Haven) where you enter the Wye and turn North onto the Harlem Line. Then running north up the Harlem to Woodlawn, making a right onto the New Haven Line. Run EAST up the NHV to Clear 216 (at least, if not 217 [New Rochelle].
Once stopped at NRO an electric motor will tie onto the rear end of the train and tow it back WEST over the Hell Gate Bridge to Harold and thence into the East River Tunnels to Penn Station.....
is it even nessisary to clean the top of the train.

High ridge was where the Putnam line began if i'm not Mistaken or wait that was their yard.

High Bridge (not ridge) was the "transfer" point for pax from GCT to get onto Putnam Division trains which originated down at Sedgwick Ave.

That's what I figured, although I didn't know the Maple Leaf was doing it too. Thanks.

yeah for those two weekends:
49 detoured
48 detoured
63 detoured
64 detoured
69 combined with 63
68 combined with 64
All others either:
--turned at CRT (equip Deadheaded to MO to wye) OR
--ran to GCT (most though not all, with tow engines)
