Pop music is really an 80's music. After the 80's, Pop music dissapeared and much of today's music doesn't fit into any one Genre. Today's music are a mix of many different dominant flavors and it can't be categorized anymore.
yes, he does sound kind of flashy with that "back home I'm one of the biggest rock artists.." but I think he's trying to point out how different it is for him to come from stardom to relative anonymity.. "starting again from zero" in his words.
scrubbycritter - He is everything but a POP artist.. atleast if you judge him by his lyrics, at least in Hebrew.. I don't really know his English stuff so I can't tell what about it, but he is not a POP artist
djbethell - I disagree; Pop is a genre in music that although derives from the word "popular" doesn't mean that every artist or song that become popular are instantly definedas "pop music" - Is Leonard Cohen doing pop music? and Metallica? how about Frank Sinatra's music? nope. pop music means it is aimed to hit to the taste of the masses, to the widest veriety of listeners. usually, it comes with shallowness, sadly.

And they've all released the 3 1/2 minute pop song. The term "pop song" is first recorded as being used in 1926 in the sense of a piece of music "having popular appeal". You trying to tell me Aviv's "Love Song" and "It's Alright" are not pop songs? Pop doesn't have to be as bad as you think.
