  • Wow that brings back some memories of Todd's live shows back in the 70's. Very cool. What an all out performer.

  • @daveakabluewater Nice to know he still has it in the 21sy century. If you like this performance, you need to check out "Todd and Daryl the last ride" You won't be disappointed. Incredible song, incredible performers and spectacular view at Todd's house in Kaui. Enjoy.

  • MAKE IT SCREAM RUNT!!!!!

  • years ago..went to me mates house in liverpool and he played sin ring and the glass guitar...have loved Todd Rundgren ever since.

  • I've been listening to this every day. The live version beats the album version one hundred times over. So much emotion with a great guitar solo.

  • This clip is addicting...such a soulful, passionate performance. Makes me understand why I've LOVED Todd all along...from 1973-2010 and beyond!

  • pure genius

  • I will see Todd in morristown, NJ for the Todd and Healing concert. I am an original todd Fan, I am on the poster for the Todd album. This is a great video.

  • This man is no oldies act. What is he, the pete rose of rock?...cant get into the hof why?...you're more of an musician and artist that 99% of the people in there...Keep amazing us Todd...we're with ya...

  • @hbxnyer i think it's 'cause he's "not commercially viable enough" 'cause he's only had like two big hits

since they put madonna in the HoF and she's madonna and they put Grandmaster Flash in the HoF and while he revolutionized rap he DOESN'T PLAY ROCK AND ROLL

it's probably not actually about how talented Todd is. He will keep owning in our hearts.

  • i am luving this song...i have been listening to it for 4 days...beautiful singing, interesting words, great music., i luv when todd plays the guitar...i luv todd deep down inside, feeling lots of different emotions and feelings, living life ...one day at a time...

  • @davidfavela1 Welcome to the club . . Been @ it for 38 years and we Rundgrenites ALWAYS welcome new fans.

  • It always comes down to the same thing with the great ones; honesty and a brave heart

  • Just about anything by Todd is always a welcome surprise.

Genius songwriter and here a briiliant showman and spectacularly

accomplished guitarist.... the solos at 2:00 and beyond are absolutely incredible.

Thing is..even today 2010, still pulls it off and brilliantly. Will always be in my top 5 favorite artists for consistently great songwriting and intensity...that's Todd!!

In a class all by himself...accolades not required and I doubt he would care...

  • I instantly became a fan. Never heard of that guy before today. The best live performance I ever seen from anyone.

  • @FeelingShred: I became a fan at 30 and for me, he's the apex. For years I tried to find that artist that had THE sound and captured it all musically & lyrically. Todd's music is the culmination of those things, and no one else comes close. How a music-hungry guy like me missed him over the years is beyond me. But I'm glad I found him when I did. He's got so much soul, it's unbelievable. I agree, this is the best live performance I've ever seen as well hands down. It gives me goosebumps. Peace.

  • By the way, I'm 32...so it ain't been long. Still, I can say without hesitation that I don't need to search anymore.

  • Um I just need to say that to me someone does come close but he gets over-looked by "rock" fans because, well his eccentricities I guess. Love Todd but you also do have Prince. Just an idea. :)

  • @iamjezuzchrist Funny you say that, and I'm surprised I didn't mention him in my post like I have in the past - I think even on here before. He was my guy in the early 2000s and to me he almost had it all. When I found Todd, I was immediately looking for the Todd-Prince connection cuz I knew there had to be one. I couldn't find it until a year after, when I ran across it in an article. Prince is great, but he's never been consistent. His ego got in the way too much...in some ways, wasted genius.

  • @FeelingShred I recommend Back to the Bars and Utopia Live.

  • @FeelingShred that's cool...he is a phenom to be sure!!

  • @FeelingShred Saw Todd with Utopia three times in the late 70's and early 80's. I've been to so many concerts and those stand out right at the top. Great performer and talent!

  • @FeelingShred How did you come across this video? Just curious. Ten years ago or so a guy I work with gave me some old cassettes he was going to throw away and one was Utopia. I was instantly hooked.

  • @FeelingShred you should try 'Something / Anything'. it's a double, on wich he played every instrument himself exept for the last 1/4, there he gave every drum or string a separate musician...

  • @FeelingShred if you like this performance, you need to check out "Todd and Daryl the last ride" You won't be disappointed. Incredible song, incredible performers and spectacular view at Todd's house in Kaui. Enjoy.

  • @FeelingShred if you like this performance, you need to check out "Todd and Daryl the last ride" You won't be disappointed. Incredible song, incredible performers and spectacular view at Todd's house in Kaui. Enjoy.

  • @FeelingShred Well, Todd can be quite the little performer... ;)

  • @FeelingShred and he's just as good if you go see him today dude :)

  • thanx for this video...i just luv todd...great soulfoul performance...noone does it better...i luv when todd plays the guitar...his vocals are right there, where my heart is filling an empty space...empty no more...

  • I can safely say this is one of the best live performances i've ever seen....of anyone.

  • I've never seen this trune before. Rudgren was and is great !!

  • This is my todd, I seen todd over 20 times and he still blows me away. Some things can't be changed. Hope you've all enjoyed the todd stuff this week, and I feel good about spreading good music. eddyguitar

  • CD Todd appeared in february 1974 as a double LP.

  • @Santangelo5 Todd is actually playing the Todd album in September 2010. Seriously! Indiana, Ohio and just a few more.

  • @decapitatespammers Since I live in Germany I will be missing those dates. Thanks for the info though!

  • wow! epic solo !

  • Wow! in the vocal you can see the heart of Philly blue eyed soul and then there is the guitar. I think this is the best Todd live I've seen

  • IF I DONT GET A COPY OF THIS VERSION OF THE SONG MY DEPRESSION IS GOING TO DRIP DOWN, SO WHAT CD IS IT ON? IF ANY? A TRUE TODD FAN FROM 72 AND UP

  • @cosmiclownmower Hi Its either the same or very similar to the version on the Back to the bars double album. Paul

  • "Wet carrots" have feelings too - Thanks again,Todd.

  • I LOVE THE F--K OUTAH THIS SONG!! how transitory, harmonically speaking. tragical-comical ... Thank you Todd! You're a true lifesaver!

  • I'll tell him you all said howdy when I go to Tulsa next week, in my wildest dreams, but then again....

  • TR at the top of his form, here. As someone else pointed out, this was, I think, his best live setup for lead guitar, and he wrings every drop out of it. He also is completely present to the vocal, and hits a home run. One of my favorite live performances. May I say the band is not too shabby, either? ;-)

  • @timjonesart

yeah let's hear it for the band! Kasim has been so loyal and good.He must really get what Todd needs done and steps up everytime when it really counts.

  • the best TR video on youtube, it moves me to tears. A stunning version of one of his greatest songs. One of rock's greatest voices too, and some blistering guitar thrown in for good measure: 'the depression drips down and glazes the ground; horizons east & skylines west; the moon, the sun and all the rest; father son & the holy ghost, they all turned away love when they needed it most'

it's time to take you home...

  • Amazing guitar work. Way ahead of his time.

Loved this guys music since A wizard a true star.

Todd please please go back to that Guitar tone again and drop that line 6 s#%t :)

  • What a show-off! ;) {{{Todd}}} !

  • Der Zauberer again (the wizard again): THANK YOU TODD !

  • TRUE ARTIST ! love from Germany for TODD !

  • I can't seem to make it to the end of this video without my nose running and my heart racing. It's strange, but this is the first time any artist has invoked both reactions from me simultaneously in a single performance. Seriously, this may very well be the greatest thing I've seen from the music world.

I suppose it's unfair to ask why today's artists aren't this amazing (tough act to follow here!), but it would be nice to see more folks learn from this man's example of dedication and growth.

  • @ElRegrs

I understand. I seem to keep coming back to this video all the time and everytime it's just so mindblowing. It is becoming my favorite Todd performance(even though there's SO many! I would give anything if I had seen it live! ((hugs))

  • I was lucky enough to see Todd in London (about 1979 I think...I was kinda wasted at the time) and he was just awesome!!!. He has written some great tunes and he is I think underrated and deserves more recognition, great great guitarist and I wish sometimes that he had used it slightly more. Having said that listen to some of Utopias work..Caravan for instance..now there's a song!

  • I love Todd! Why don't new artists/bands write real music anymore?! That's why I love him so much, real music. His music gets only better with time.

  • Todd, nobody does it better.

  • @gudatine We sure know That !!! XO Cherry

  • Too bad he sucks ~ read complete sarcasm here! Todd was as awesome then as he is today. Saw him 4/11/10 He is and will always be a phenom! Thanks for the video, it's GREATLY APPRECIATED!

  • What A Wonderful Performer, and GUITARIST Todd Rundgren IS... I Can NEVER EVER GET OVER IT... Just too AWESOME !! XO Cherry

  • @chelababy1 and...what a Wonderful MAN!

  • wow !!! burned a bud an watched this and back in time i went ...niiiiice

  • Probably the only person in the world who I would crawl over a mile of broken glass to meet...

  • Studio version (on "Todd" features TR in a rare soprano sax solo - very nice

  • Before Todd got his teeth fixed. Kasim too. lol

  • His most underrated song! This should have been the classic rock 'hit' from the Todd LP.

  • Todd = God

  • Absolutely Fantastic !

  • Spent my soph, junior, senior, years of high school wearing out "A True Star A Wizard" & "Todd".

This song reminds me of my youth, & Wordsworth's words; "What though the radiance which was once so bright Be now for ever taken from my sight, Though nothing can bring back the hour Of splendour in the grass, of glory in the flower; We will grieve not, rather find Strength in what remains behind"...

  • good lord, that is stinging guitar work.

  • Just been listening to A LIVE INTERVIEW WITH TODD on a London radio station a couple of days before his'Wizard, A True Star' gig. Interviewer asked him about doing the whole of 'Something/Anything' live. Todd said to 'put your money where your mouth is'. Someone offer this genius a 'mill' or so!!

  • SMOKIN' HOT TR with that Mustang! Some of the most stinging Todd notes EVER!

a true classic all should view.

  • This is one of the best live guitar tones that Todd had. He is now using that line six crap, to artificial. I can hear his old flanger ala another live utopia.

  • My freakin god just brilliant. And Zappa worthy lead guitar runs!! Or should I say Todd worthy lead guitar runs... Spectacular live Todd!

  • Does anyone know what city this is?

  • "Columbus (OH) goes bananas"

    Qube live cast

  • Absolutely incredible. If this can be added to the upcoming A Wizard A True Star concert, it will be a dream come true.

  • Thank you so much. Any question this guy wasn't a musical genius

  • Back in the days of good LSD and weed, not chronic, swag etc... you kids call it today. Oh yea and we also called it a " lid " lol. Nice to know something of that time and era carries on.

  • bry3921,

Thumbs up to your "whatever," when it comes to who is god in each of our minds, musically.

I'm a great fan of all those you mentioned and more, but anyone who wants to see and hear how well Todd plays guitar (just as you can see and hear on this video) can find themselves in a trance of sorts, seeing him live.

    Peace.

    Rock

  • this video makes me cry. it is so effing unbelievable! todd is singing and soloing at the same time with such emotion, it floors everytime i watch this. nobody does that! or did that! it does something to my heart when i watch this.
