None of you guys seem too concerned about helmets, so why rag on this guy about it? I've yet to see a single video of a paramoterist wearing a helmet. Good job with the community-wide hypocracy.
Why wear a helmet. Thoughout his schooling, he had to wear a helmet because he rode the short bus. Think he needs to get back on that bus, and with his helmet.

Targetting problem. You just focused your sight on those trees which had you direct onto those. Same as on a motorbike. Watch something, you will hit it. Otherwise, it's obvious there was too much braking. Besides you shouldn't throttle your engine while lifting up your wing, you will kill it, and it can be very dangerous. Only do that when your wing is above your head ...
@simusfr Yeah it happens with a hammer too. You look at that sore finger holding that nail and wah lah you hit the finger again and totally missed the nail.
The paraglider stalled. Go to hands up position after launch and if you have enough power you should climb out just fine. Get off those breaks or you'll do this again!
Natural Selection needs to take place here... He stalled his wing and spun it. I use this to teach people what not to do. Hope he still is not flying...

@707silex Correct, even the way the wing folds gives it away as a stall. The guy was in the hole, his excess brakes caused additional induced drag and stopped him achieving the required climb rate which induced him to apply more brake (although where he learned that is anyone's guess). A hopeless flight strategy that robbed his wing of efficiency. He needs to take more lessons on how to fly his wing in such a situation.
@Jackinape Reverse vs forward was irrelevant. He got his wing up and pitch controlled. It's what he then did that cuased teh accident. Rotor did not undo him. Deep brakes causing excessive induced drag & loss of climb followed by deeper brakes, add max power into the mix pushing the pilot and increasing AoA and you get a pilot induced stall. Not a logical flight strategy but it's clear this pilot thought he would improve his climb with more brakes power with disastrous consequences.
He has too much brake on from the start, I don't think the trees have affected his judjement, (unless hes been smoking them) he doesn't understand about stalling a glider. He is marginally off a full stall at the end and luckily for him he stalls one side only and he goes into a spin. That probably saved his life, Nice helmet disguised as hair,,, Neat!
Obviously, the down draft coming from the trees... Just look at the wing turn right when reaching the top. Could have flown a while on that much brakes, no problem to me.

hey ya'll,,,I have a great idea...let's fly something that'll fold up if someone FARTS UNDER IT!!!!! YEA,,,and we'll strap a motor on our backs,,,,that'll sure get them to look,,,ya know,,,with all that noise from that huge spinning thingy. Jeeze!
This is basic stuff man, why the heck were you digging in with that much brake? Glad your okay and I hope you learned your lesson. You can pull some brake to get off the ground quicker but once you start gaining a bit of altitude, start letting that out slowly so you build your airspeed.
Definitely way too much brake the whole time, and he should have steared away from those trees right away. More training is in order before flying again :)
Was his over use of breaks. Look at the video. He has break pressure through the whole flight and never let up to help speed up the wing to give more lift. Also low power unit and heavy pilot! I weigh 245lbs and launch like a rocket every time: need more power scotty!!
since he did a forward there might not have been too much rotor. He should have just turned (toward the direction of engine torque) as soon as he was a few feet off the ground. He could have gone either way around those trees. I think he either misjudged his climb out or had target fixation. Hope he is ok, and same for his equipment.

You kinda aimed for the trees and just kept going for them. I'm pretty sure you can make these parachutes turn, even going slowly. ;)

He did a foward, but check the wind, more than enought for a reverse.
And more than enought wind for dangerous rotors from the trees.
It was rotor from the trees, that collasped
the wing!

Way to much brake. Fly with speed matey.
Look like the wing was cemi deep stalling and close to a spin the whole time.
build your airspeed and use suttle turns.
