Seit Jahrzehnten werden Haie in allen Weltmeeren erbarmungslos verfolgt. Sie werden mit so genannten Langleinen gefangen, kilometerlangen Fangschnüren, die mit Köderhaken bestückt sind. Besonders grausam ist, dass den Tieren bei lebendigem Leibe die Flossen abgeschnitten werden, um daraus in Südostasien Haifischflossensupee herzustellen. Die verstümmelten Tiere werden - noch lebend - wieder über Bord ins Meer geworfen, wo sie jämmerlich verenden.

Doch nicht nur für Suppen, sondern auch für allerlei Pillen und Pülverchen gegen Gelenkbeschwerden und sogar Krebs muss der Hai herhalten. Für diesen Humbug müssen jedes Jahr mindestens 100 Millionen Haie qualvoll sterben. Die gandenlose Überfischung der Weltmeere trifft die Haie besonders. Das Resultat: Von den rund 380 existierenden Haiarten sind 80 bereits vom Aussterben bedroht.

Aquafarmen sind keine Alternative, da sie im höchsten Maße umweltgefährdend und tierquälerisch sind. Weltweit werden so ca. 16 Mio. Tonnen Fisch gezüchet.

Meist wird nur eine einzige Art in Monokultur mit umfangreicher Technik und Chemikalien auf engstem Raum herangezogen. Kraftfuttercocktails sollen die Fische schnellstmöglich verkaufsreif wachsen lassen. Die Stoffwechselprodukte der Fische verursachen eine explosionsartige Ausbreitung der Algen und eine ökologische Zerstörung des Gewässers.

Viele Gewässer, insbesondere die Meere sind überfischt. Viele Arten sind wegen zu hoher Fangquoten und umweltzerstörender Fangtechniken nahezu ausgerottet.

In Anbetracht der Schadstoffbelastungen der Meere wird deutlich, daß Fisch kein gesundes Nahrungsmittel sein kann, denn aus verschmutzten Gewässern können keine "unverschmutzten" Fische kommen. Die in den Wassertieren abgelagerten Schadstoffe wie Arsen, Blei, Cadmium, Quecksilber und Pestizide werden mitgegessen, ebenso wie die in den Aquafarmen den Tieren zugeführten Wachstumshormonen und Antibiotika.

Treibnetze entpuppen sich als gigantische Fallen, als unüberwindbare Mauern des Todes: Denn, neben den Thunfischen verfangen sich auch Tausende und Abertausende weiterer Tiere im Netz: Delphine, andere Kleinwale, Robben, Seekühe, Meeresschildkröten, Haie und auch viele Seevögel, die von der Jagd angelockt werden.

On average 3 seals get killed by humans every day so 1095 seals a year get killed by us...thats a couple of hundrer tonns of fish saved right??

Its okay to eat fish its just the methods we are using to fish them wastefully thats crippling the populations.

Stop making excuses to make yourself feel better like humans have no impact

Did you know that a seal eats 4-6 kg fish every day? In the North Atlantic a conservative estimate is numbering the seals to 3 million. Yearly consumption adds upto 3x5x365=5,5 mill ton fish ! What to do about that ??? Wake up and get real

One practical solution, would be to get old scrap cars, strip out the engines etc. blast off the paint if it's toxic, and dump them at sea, they would make ideal fish nurseries. and cost very little.

I wish everyone would learn about this. Humans should know a LOT more about the food they're eating and what's gone into getting it to their plates.

PATHETIC! They don't do a thing to stop the netttings but fishing from the shore is now illegal. Fishermen (sport) catch .06% if all fish caught but the marine reserves are all along the shore.
