the main reason for the ring of death because these gaming companys make a higher resolution game which ps3 cant support properly resulting to the ps3 over heating do to long periods of playing games, like black ops and battlefield which have high resolution causing the ring of death. i got the ring of death twice now. once in sept 2010 playing BC2 and today playing black ops. just take a look at the other youtube ring of death video's and see what game they were playing that cause ps3 to fail

Just look at God of War, Heavy Rain, Ratchet and Clank, Final Fantasy XIII, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Uncharted 2. 2. The PS3 has NEVER gotten the red ring of death, that's the 360. 3. Black Ops doesn't have high resolution, not compared to Modern Warfare 2, which has higher resolution than that. Please.. don't post things like that.

Thats yellow light of death, Im sorry to say but its dead, probably over heated or the GPU screwed up like my old one, but now I got a PS3 Slim 250 GB.
You can repair it for free, you just need solder and open up your ps3, there is this wire that is suppose to attach to this thing, but it heated up and snaps off, if you solder if back, it will work. Of course this breaks the PS3 copyright.

could be a HDD failure or the CPU (Central Processing Unit) or GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) has overheated. Keep it in a area free of any air obstructions. Also, blow it out with some compressed air. (this wont hurt it) the YLOD is mainly a failure of the HDD. Its only just a laptop HDD, with a SATA interface.
mine got shitload of dust inside...and mw2 was inside. and I had awesome pics xD. I still havent blown off the dust yet and hopefully it works. Now im stuck with a Slim (which is sexy lol)

I got this problem, but the manual says " keep it cooling by 2 hours, and then restart the system" but obviously it doesnt work so my only doubt about gettin it repaired by sony is about the game data and account data, will i lose all saved data??? My PS3 just started doing this. I accidentally turned off the system while a game was booting up. Now it won't do anything other than blink red and the disc is stuck in the system. It's out of warranty so Sony won't do anything unless you pay $150 for repair, and the customer service is worthless.

Turn off power switch at the back, press and hold the power button at the front (dont let go), turn switch back on at the back, wait for 2 beeps, then let go of power button at front.. this will reset everything..u just got to change the display settings back to whatever u need it to be at. Hopefully this helps you, if u havent already figured it out.

This just happened to me as well today. I was in the middle of playing fallout 3 (was only playing for like 20 minutes) when all of the sudden my ps3 simply shut off. When I tried turning it on the same exact thing happened. My disc is trapped inside as well since it does not power on long enough to eject it. My ps3 was an original 20gb launch model. Any help is appreciated

@maxboya It's overheating. You need to clean/dust the inside of your PS3 and the air vents. Make sure your PS3 is in a well ventilated area as well.

There is a good tutorial on how to fix it.
just search "ylod ps3 fix"
i fixed mine using that guide and it works like a charm. You have to be good with tools though.

my ps3 overheated, so i traded it in to get another 1, and after about 2 days it keeps on freezing and it wont load friggin disks!!!

This just happened to me as well today. I was in the middle of playing fallout 3 (was only playing for like 20 minutes) when all of the sudden my ps3 simply shut off. When I tried turning it on the same exact thing happened. My disc is trapped inside as well since it does not power on long enough to eject it. My ps3 was an original 20gb launch model. Any help is appreciated

I had the same issue while playing LBP. I think this is happening more often with the new update. Sony will not replace my ps3 since i got it the firt day it came out, I told them that if they dont i will move onto PS3 ... RIP PS3 but your CEO SUCKS and im not paying 150.

jjr8594: You are wrong. the engine doesnt get fried it just breaks, and how does the engine affect the hardware? if you open up your pse you can litterally place your hand over the hardrive and pull it out ( not considering all the power you would need because the ps3 is ultra stable )

You are fucking luck bro. I've had mine for about two years also. The warranty is no good no more. I kinda want to open it and see what the problem is. I called Sony up and asked them how much they would charge to have the problem fixed they say it will cost me$150 Washingtons. That sucks ass.
