@76CTV Life would start over again, eventually. Even if mankind was totally wiped out, life WOULD continue, and the last evidences of our civilisation would be Mount Rushmore and the Voyager probes (and other space probes)
should nuclear weapons hit America.most of us are not prepared, you can look at Hurricane Katrina to figure how most of my fellow Americans act under immense stress, not very good, people would be running aorund like Chickens with thier heads cutoff, we have been so spoiled in this country,we have grown soft, and would pay dearly,if Attacked with Nuclear weapons,Then we get to experience MAD MAX in reality,oh joy
The most depressing programme I've ever watched. If you survived underground for two weeks, crawled out of your shelter and looked at the devastation - no food, no water, no crops, no clothes, no fuel, no people, no shelter, no communications, no transport, no future - your best option would be suicide. In fact, you'd be better off being killed immediately after the blast.
Awsomely chilling. I would have been just a baby when that documentary was originally shown as I was born in 1981. I've seen the film Threads many many times but this was highly interesting to watch aswell.
When I visited the Titan Missile Museum in Arizona we were told that the standing orders for the silo operators after a launch were to "wait 30 days for further orders", as they had a 30 day supply of air, food, water. I asked "What about after 30 days?". The retired Air Force individual running the tour seemed taken aback, as if no one ever asked. Very chilling.
wow this looks cool i would love it if this happened in the uk, can you imagine the entertainment you would get from intitial warning to blast to fallout to aftermath to rebulding and the international stage the whole thing would be worth dying for at least you go out with a bang rather than just getting old and dropping off, i hope this happens when im old i would really love that.
@plusplusplusplusp Either that, or crank non stop 2 hours before sleep to prime the atmosphere for a long sleep period. OR you could hook it up to an electric motor under computer control. Yeah, that's the ticket!
@Aluenvey On a personal level, if there was a nuclear attack on the UK I'd take my shirt off, put on some sunglasses, put a deckchair out in the street and just wait for infinite bliss.
Sod worrying about everything else. Just hope ya wife/girlfriend isn't on the jam rag while your in the shelter!! fuck that id rather take my chances outside thanks
"How would you cope with vomiting and diarrhea in such a confined space?" Um...not very well. The director of Threads sure has a skill for creating documentaries/films that are grim as f*ck!
brings back happy memories. Bizarre thing is, almost none of my peers (I was at school in the early 80s) seemed at all worried about it. "Nothing you can do about it!" and I suppose they were right. This film might have given them a perspective though!
Use force to keep others out. In the U.S. it was called the "Gun thy Neighbor" Debate. How insane are we as a society when we seriously entertain questions like that?
I literally felt my face go pale when the narrator said that all the damage being shown was from a single warhead - and that in an actual war, there would be 30 warheads. Good God.
Hmmmm.........I think the real problems would indeed begin after you emerge from your hastily-constructed shelter. I suspect a bullet through the head would be the best solution should this ever occur.
the end of this whole documentary just left me shaken and speechless...excuse me while grab a glass of Vodka and a few Disney movies to calm my nerves.
@Dristarg well he was wrong, if the technological capabilitys don´t allow more than "sticks and stones" as weapons, then the logistics to wage a world war just aren´t there (not even the logistics necessary to have power blocks big enough for a world war)
I like to compare these documentaries to the ones produced by the US Government in the 1950s to 1960s. The earlier ones are upbeat and never mention the horrors of nuclear war. This one plainly states the facts and doesn't sugar coat anything. From a historical standpoint, this probably would have caused mass panic in the US at the time, but at the threat of nuclear war was made less and less, I'm not so sure people would take this seriously.
My thoughts exactly........... this is a decently produced and modern video fun to watch considering its almost 30 years old.... And it basically says... Nuclear weapons will annihilate anything in its vicinity and if you're within the region, you're screwed.
This was badass. All the British docs about this were loads more realistic than the shit in America. As graphic as The Day After was, there were just way too many survivors and things were too normal. This tells it like it is. It's like "One bomb would eat your ass...now remember kids, you will most likely be hit by several bombs."
Mostly these videos made to prepeare people. Most people doesnt have any real knowledge about the effects and the post effects of a nuclear war.You cant even be safe in Australia or anywhere else in the world.Even one cloud can go around the earth.Second if you crawl out of your bunker in a city.....well cities are full with metal and those will be radioactive too.1 hour in that area and you will get a nasty radioactive sickness.Try to get out from a destroyed city in one hour? Not a chance.
I remember reading somewhere that an attack scenario on big cities in the eighties involves dozens of bombs in the quarter megaton range. The idea if you attack a target like Washington DC, you don't bomb Washington you're going for individual targets in it like the White House, Pentagon, ect.
One thing they forgot to mention was "cabin fever". People forced into a confined space for unknown amount of time tend to loose it after a while. The couple would wan't to kill each other after 1 week.
@poodtang1 If u noticed, the couple in the shelter had the comfort of their cigarettes in the shelter. It's important that when preparing for survival that you have something to take the "jitters" off. It sounds funny but it's true. Whether your vice is tobacco or alcohol, you should have a store of some kind of stimulant or sedative for that situation. The one immediate downfall that I saw with the smoking couple was that it was a waste of matches which would be a precious commodity afterwards.
Most of what I said was a joke, I don't believe in all of it. But the part of raiding instead of hiding was true. I do believe that's the way to survive.
But the chances that Denmark should be destroyed are much less than America, UK and other great nations.
Exctly. It would be up to you guys to start civilizasion again, after all the fallout had cleared and radioactivity settled down. A couple of generations at least

depressive, most of all in the end with that majestic music. There is no way to escape, even if you would, you could/would not want to survive in the wasteland of the world after...
In this simulation, the area damaged would only be about 20 miles across. If you're still alive, the chances are that you'd only be at worst 4-6 miles from only partially affected zones. After several weeks they should have people on the scene looking for survivors, probably in those stalker outfits.
A vault in my garden would me cool. I'd install my Xbox360 there for fun and a computer with internet connection for pr0n. I would be able to stay there for years.

no offence but i will just put a bullet in my head before it happen its sad but there is no choice at that time , by the way who will even save u when every1 have been whip out by the blast
30 small and medium yield warheads, hmmmm, wouldnt it be more practicle to use 2 to 3 1 megaton warhead, with air burst at 1 mile in altitude, which would cause widespread EMP effects
It is cheaper and less technically challenging to make medium yield warheads than it is to make really big ones.
Also in war, 30 medium size warhead on 30 missiles are more difficult to be destroyed by an enemy attack, than 2 really large warhead on 2 really big missiles.
I thought that at the end there would be a good moral like "By surviving, you may continue humanity." But instead, it's: "You may just survive the blast. But after then, you're a gonner."
Not after you saw all that destruction around you. Mind you it would be pitch dark and as cold as hell because of the nuclear winter that would have started.
Well that's the truth about nuclear war you don't have to believe it you can believe instead the government's lies that were set down in their joke pamphlet 'Protect and Survive.'
Not a lot of fun. I collected together loads of kit a few years back and moved it,then buried it near to a Souterrain(ancient underground dwelling) facing the Irish sea. If sh1t happens i'm off down there. The "caves" are set in a large hill and over 2500yrs old. Thats my best bet.Maybe lol!!

With some Fallout 3 experience, you'd probably know how to survive... If you have weapons and ammo..
Then become a raider... that's my advice... or choice, if I make it.. It's illigal to have guns in Denmark, but if you know where to look? :-)
Anyway, I don't think I'd make it, since Copenhagen is an attractive target at least for some middle east contries...

30 small and medium yield warheads, hmmmm, wouldnt it be more practicle to use 2 to 3 1 megaton warhead, with air burst at 1 mile in altitude, which would cause widespread EMP effects
umahuma4 3 years ago 2
umahuma4: economics and strategy.
It is cheaper and less technically challenging to make medium yield warheads than it is to make really big ones.
Also in war, 30 medium size warhead on 30 missiles are more difficult to be destroyed by an enemy attack, than 2 really large warhead on 2 really big missiles.

this whole video is just depressingly funny
like joy and eric will survive, for about 17 seconds....BOOM!!!
and the u may survive the blast, but then ur gonna die XD
kujo665 3 years ago
How fucking depressing was that?!?!
I thought that at the end there would be a good moral like "By surviving, you may continue humanity." But instead, it's: "You may just survive the blast. But after then, you're a gonner."

HAHA. Yeah, I love that game! I watched "Threads" on YouTube, and it actually made it difficult to enjoy Fallout 3... for about 17 seconds.

it is possible to survive, but then after you climb out after two weeks, would you really have the will to live anymore
umahuma4 3 years ago
Not after you saw all that destruction around you. Mind you it would be pitch dark and as cold as hell because of the nuclear winter that would have started.
turner681 2 years ago
The nuclear winter theory has long been disproved.
ralucagymnast 2 years ago
Well that's the truth about nuclear war you don't have to believe it you can believe instead the government's lies that were set down in their joke pamphlet 'Protect and Survive.'

Not a lot of fun. I collected together loads of kit a few years back and moved it,then buried it near to a Souterrain(ancient underground dwelling) facing the Irish sea. If sh1t happens i'm off down there. The "caves" are set in a large hill and over 2500yrs old. Thats my best bet.Maybe lol!!
