Shut the hell up about the Beatles, Sloan is mostly traditional rock and roll to my ears, they sound like many pure rock and roll bands including The Who, Rolling Stones, The Beatles, so what? Now if you listen to Underwhelmed it's more like a grunge song so they aren't just one demensional really. To me it sounds fresh even though it isn't groundbreaking I'm still a big fan of Sloan. The Hip is another animal completely, they are hard to describe really I'm their fan too.
@jmguitard They were a huge influence on the band's sound. Hell, listen 'The Lines You Ammend'--both the song and lyrics. It could've been a Beatles song on any of their albums and not be out of place, and the lyrics reference the Beatles.
@Mineav I always found that this band tried really really hard to be like the beatles. Not that they don't have some bad stuff, but they certainly aren't ground breaking or forward thinking the way the beatles were. I think that Sloan hoped people who call them Canada's beatles, unfortunately that moniker is taken by the tragically hip.
@aklassen999 - I remember when Navy Blues (1998) came out and a critic wrot in an article that their sound was all well and good, but "they just can't seem to stop sounding like The Beatles!" I thought to myself that if I was ever in a band people would compare to the brilliance of The Beatles, that would be the highest compliment they could pay me!
The Hip are okay and all, but Sloan blows them out of the water.
@aklassen999 Seriously, The Hip as The Beatles? I've been a Hip fan for 22 years and not once did that occur to me. Because it's wrong. You're an idiot.

Very similar to the Beatles.
One of the looks like John Lennon.

I think of them as the Canadian Who, the drummer really has the same style not so much on this song but most Sloan songs.

Could've been so much more without the tacky bow at the end.
And so much more than unnecessarily lackey contrivances. I kid .

'It's Not The Band I Hate, It's Their Fans'.
CONSOLIDATED R'N'R Ref #1 & only (and not counting).
Not Every Song On TWICE REMOVED Is Perfect, But There Is Not One Track That Doesn't Contain At Least One AbSOlutely In-Genius Perfect Piece/Part.
And That's (me, really) Saying SomeThing

@InBklynDust That one line has served me well as an aphorism for the last 16 years. It's amazing how many situations it can be applied to.
