Have you seen a ND FABNO (naturopathic doctor, fellow of american board certified naturopathic oncology)? The Canadian health care system is disease care, not health care. It's a huge difference.
Good thing we spent 3 billion on Gun Control. Could have been spent in a better place couldnt it have. a MRI machine for every hospital. In a country that has the most oil reserves in the world!!!!!
By the way I have put all my savings plus deregistered part of my retirement savings to pay for my healthcare- so it has tapped all my money plus I was at death's door before I finally agreed to go to the Mayo, because it took too long. And this is in Canada home of universal healthcare. The other's man grass is not always greener. As voters we need accountability.
I believe we should have access but something is not working. That is also why I contacted the White House, its a great concept but to make sure to build in fail safes so the American people do not get disappointed.
A few years ago, I volunteered to build the first Native American Hospice on Pine Ridge Indian Reservation when I found out native americans had poor access to healthcare, dying at age 44 years and were dying on their dirt floors. I realized third world care in a first world country.
Sorry to hear about your personal situation- my friend in the US was sick and I had mailed her some monies. No system works without its faults. My posting is directed to Canadians who have been brought up with the concept of having access to universal healthcare. I am a nurse and It took me 8 months to get an appointment. I am on the phone and emails from strangers who are ill and want help.
No system is without it's failings...but if this women lived in the US without any health insurance she'd either find herself BANKRUPT with her medical bills or maybe never bother going to see a doctor until she was on death's door! I'd rather have some health care than NONE at all (I'm currently uninsured).
Sorry to hear of your situation. Is there anything I can do from Canada to assist?
I left because it took 8 months to get checked, tests were negative but I had cancer. It was going to be a long wait for treatment. I chose to get treated in the US because when I found 3 tumours were missed I had my surgery there. It was not an easy choice. I am broke but alive.
I hope the US changes allow fair access because long waits, etc are just as bad as no healthcare.
