  • Ups!!

    This is from Patashnik

  • Biosphere's debut album is one of the best albuns ever...

  • Culte !

  • brilliant

  • why did it have to be so DARK?

  • I think there should be a federal law that legally requires Michel Gondry to make at least 200 commercials per year. Then tv ad spots would be less brainless :D

  • the GENIUS of Michel Gondry!!!

  • This has proably been asked loads already (i checked the description but nothing)... what's the year and music?

  • @BringItBackITV Year: 1995

    Music: Biosphere - Novelty Waves

  • one of best ads ever shot

  • This ad is wonderful, and really funny in an innocent way.

Plus, the boy in his slightly oversized clothing... I'd hit that so much, no wonder the girl ignored her father. ;D

  • This spot it seems to me wonderful, has everything ,music, photography,i love,is hypnotic,i see it again and again

  • amo los levis

  • How does the young man arrive at the house before the pharmacist?

...A very short, slight joke padded out with "picturesque" scenery.

    ...I usually like Gondry.

  • @toopoable by train, 1:00

  • @toopoable I think when he's in the car and there's a fade to the same shot but during night, it's implied that he goes off to do whatever, work, or something, and later in the night he takes the car again and goes to see his lover.

  • I didn't know that was watch pocket.

  • Great!!!!

  • At least he did put his kids in this advert.

  • Biosphere - Novelty Waves

  • this ad has genuinely captured the depression. classic.

  • Best commercial I've ever seen and I hate 99.9999% of them.

  • Even the imagery used in Dave Chappelle's Block Party was amazing at times, which must have been hard because its basically a concert movie. Btw, please check out my music. Thanks.

  • This seems like a rapist commercial at first

  • i love it!! Do u know the name of soundtrack?!?

  • Hail to the king

  • From Wikipedia: "According to the Guinness World Records 2004, Michel Gondry's Levi's 501 Jeans "Drugstore" spot holds the record for 'Most awards won by a TV commercial'. The commercial was never aired in North America because of the suggestive content involving purchasing latex condoms."

Hard to believe us North Americans are still such puritans. Then again I live in NYC where people don't get their panties in a wad when someone reminds them that sex exists.

  • hahahah LOVED this commercial!!!!!

  • i've got many Levis jeans all sorts of colors cause i thought it may attract women's, i also added a strawberry flavor condom in the pocket showing it off, problem is Levis jeans don't seems to works it's all bullshit then i realize the reason why i don't attract girls is because im too ugly.

  • @RaymondBriggs666 wtf? lololol

  • i put my lighter in my "watch" pocket.

  • Ah, Michel Gondry truly is the greatest surrealist ever. Criss Angel and Salvador Dahli can't even be compared to Michel Gondry's greatness.

  • @heyjude97 what Criss Angel has to do with Gondry and Dahli? Random, lol

  • @fede018 Well, they're all surrealists, aren't they?

  • @heyjude97

Well, Criss Angel isn't exactly an artist...

  • @TheChexer1231 well, he directs and designs his own stunts and illusions. hat's gotta count for something.

  • lol that was great!

  • pertamanya gue kayak "apaan sih nih" tapi ternyata... gokilll

  • Surrealism at it's best.

  • michael gondy, if you had done this commercialnow, I propably would buy all of levi's jeans for my bf !

    LOVE IT

  • it looks like Resident Evil 4

  • genius

  • Ohhhh, it's for watches

  • Gondry uses CG in all the right places in all his other vids. You suppose that's how the camera disappeared from 0:26 to 0:29. Great shot, man.

  • this has been done b4

  • Long live Biosphere!

  • What's the point??? Nuthin' "said." Duh!!!!

  • .,poor dad!

  • .,poor dad!

  • I really don't understand why clothing companies sell jeans that are pre worn, it's like buying underwear with stains in them. WHY would you buy something like that?

  • @pandafatxXx because the ad is fucken dope!

  • @wavesmag

    As are you.

  • @pandafatxXx you don´t understand FASHION! that´s it!

  • @senderette pfffft... FASHON more like FASCISM!!! JK but no think for yourself my friend, purchasing dirty, torn up, stained jeans is illogical

  • @pandafatxXx Todays Developed country problem... You don't think they maybe wash them?

  • @pandafatxXx good point well made. 12oz japanese selvedge. never wash it. ever.

  • @pandafatxXx vintage.

  • @pandafatxXx

what about all those people that have to have used Japanese schoolgirls panties? would you do them out of their paltry fetish? to each his/her own.

  • @pandafatxXx I remember pre-faded jeans in the '70s. They looked bad then and now. Nevertheless, they help people with bad taste find each other. That's good. Today, innovative designers make clothes that look good. If you know what looks good, you will be cool with that. You will appreciate their talent, artistry and good taste. You will be thankful for it. I guess what I am getting at is: you are suspicious of an entire category (worn clothing). That indicates a lack of confidence

  • Nothing worse than knowing you sold domes to the dude who's going to nail your daughter.

  • @Moore2501 At least he knows they're using protection X3

  • poor dad he looks so sad at the end! :p

  • What's the name of this song?

  • @Neonman78 Biosphere - Novelty Waves

  • @conatcha Cheers man!

  • Rubbers used to come in cool little tins? I want one.

  • umm I thought this was dumb, but that's probably because I don't get it?

  • @TomReeseqazwsx The daughter's dad was the guy who sold her boyfriend the condoms...

  • Beware the ideology. We're studying this ad campaign in our cultural analysis class right now. When you see things like this ad campaign that appeal instantly on so many levels, start asking questions.

  • @faerieguts You're the most vague doomsayer ever.

  • Your'e all buying into the ideology

  • It is improbably delightful

  • i dont get it, what does it have to do with jeans ? and what does it say at the end of the commercial ??

  • @Bournesax His Levi's have a a pocket made for pocket watches, but he used it to put the the condoms he bought in. At the end it says "Watch pockets created in 1873. Abused ever since."

  • i love Michel Gondry

  • fake

  • this commercial is good. but its not amazing. why has been rated so highly???

  • i am looking for a old levis commercial...two puppets hug each other, then the start spinning....does anyone of you know a link? i couldn't find it on youtube...

  • @MRKanister2006 I am looking for that commercial too. That fucking frightened me back when I was a kid, want to see it now that I'm older...

  • @Tobbyno

yeah, i would even pay to see it again;)

  • This situation happens in the 80's remake of The Blob with Kevin Dillon

  • In recent memory not many commercials have made me laugh out loud. I think that "Notch yo cheese" commercial made me laugh the first time. But this is smart, aesthetically pleasing and more over I watched it a second time and still laughed. The clerk is smiling and shaking his head! Hilarious!

  • Q"ue booombaaaa, es un simplisimo y viejo chiste llevado al mundo publicitario d el amano d eun artista del cinematoscopio!

  • And music by Biosphere. This is epic.

  • рекламка суперская,сам ношу левис,но в такие истории к сожалению не попадал

  • EVER

  • I love the atmosphere of the video, so dark and antique.

  • One of my favourite !!

  • Che genio

  • Put the "Good Mornin World" music to this video. Especially the "lee hee hee hee" end part with the general store dad's face.

  • @micmac99

wasn't even shown in the u.s. stfu

  • I really love the sense of being "immersed in a 3D silent movie reality" that this clip generates - and the excellent shine&darkness of the photography.

What's unusual for Gondry is the intricate "classic" drama between the people in it - especially all the "faces" - it's somehow unlike other things he has done and I wonder if there were somehow the pressure of contractors or the work of uncredited collaborators involved.

  • Lol Shit's too live crew

  • pure art.

  • I love how spooky this commercial feels. Mostly caused by the music.

  • this is not a Levi add by Michel Gondry, it's one of Levi's first commercials from the early 1900s. The only thing close to being Gondry is the music

  • @opdrewman91 ...no this was a commercial that Gondry directed in 1994.

  • @opdrewman91 please say 1900s was meant to read 1990s also Gordry has been working since the mid to late 80s..hes not new off the block to say the lest

  • @opdrewman91 Well, since apparently no one else got your joke... I'll just say LOL. Good one.

  • novelty waves - biosphere

  • it's wonderful! you know what is the music?

  • Gondry, thanks for being born.

  • does anyone know the name of track?

  • @chrestian It's Biosphere - Novelty Waves. I think it was released on warp records back in 1996

  • @Switchblade84 thanks!

  • so simple and beautiful, and sad cos you know that her dad knows best..lol

  • this should be sweded ;)

  • Not only does it have that twist at the end...the look and style and all out creation of it is what astounds me. This is perhaps one of the top 10 commercials I have ever seen.

  • one of my favorite of all time!!!

    I LOVE MICHEL GONDRY <3

  • Does anyone have the levi strauss commericial shot at the Fox theather in Austin, Texas with Mike Cluver watching airport 1975 in dancing at a disco tech

  • The best advert ever!

  • без слов!!! :+))

  • what is title of that song

  • Biosphere - Novelty Waves

  • this commercial is simply amazing...

thanks for sharing, it remind me of when i was younger...

  • how is the window thing done? does anybody knows?

    BTW is GREAT

  • Es la mejor ambientación que he visto jamas, mejor incluso que las peliculas rodadas en esa epoca..

  • Get the best at McKay´s; where else?

Das ist jetzt tatsächlich der erste Levi´s-Werbeclip, den ich als Kind gesehen habe und an den ich mich erinnern kann; schön, ihn hier wiederzuentdecken.

  • very cool :) I didn't know the small pockets were for condoms! But now i know! :P haha.

    Cleverly done by Gondry

  • what's the thing about the train?

  • @tidusxxl It's used to symbolize sex. Trains have been used for this purpose for a long time. Levi's happens to use them pretty often; there's other Levi commercials that incorporate the use of trains as well.

  • if all the commercials were done by gondri .. tv ad will be my favorite part

  • @arcgiank

    yyyyyyyy

  • does anybody know the song?

  • novelty waves by biosphere, patashnik album

  • whats the commercial trying to show?

  • @diiaoxx It's trying to show that you should buy Levi's blue jeans. All commercials are trying to entice you to buy something (or form an opinion about something) whether they're explicit about it or not. Anyway, this commercial just happens to be one of the most stylish I've ever seen.

  • Bjork-ish....

    :D

Gondry=compulsive creative genious. Love his work....

    respect.

  • genio

  • I hate commercials. But this is awesome.

Occasionally, commercials can almost make you forget that their sole purpose is to get you to purchase some consumer good.

  • @jgwest1

and then when you see the goods you go ahh that ad, maybe i'll buy some of those jeans.

  • @jgwest1

this wasn't even aired in the u..s you tool

  • @MrRaoulin You, sir, have cut me to the quick. You have crushed my self-esteem. I honestly don't remember saying that it was aired in the U.S., however.

  • love michel

  • un bijou ce clip, il ne faut juste pas oublier qu'il s'adressait a l'époque a de jeunes gens aisés classe moyenne +

  • the night ride sequence is incredible !

  • Супер!!!!!!!!!Очень Креативно!!!!В России реклама на уровне северо-корейской однозначно!!!

  • poor dad XD

  • Buen video, la mezcla entre las imágenes antiguas y la música electrónica es muy buena

  • gritty grimy ad.

  • JEANIUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!haha

  • JEANS

  • In reality, Dad would've put a shotgun in the punk's mouth and said good night.. Decades ago, when it came to morality, people weren't spineless

  • lol i bet your about 12

  • How is murder more moral than consensual sex?

  • why did he not just stop her?

  • We shot this scene many different ways. This was the final cut of this version. Sometimes Michel would have us do over 25 takes for one scene. The film was shot in 1994. The calendar on the wall of the drugstore read 1934. The story took place during the "Great Depression" of the 1930' , when times' were hard. It was great fun to participate and work with a young Michel Gondry. A fun story that has been told in many ways, over and over, through out the years.

  • oki thanks mate :)

  • love i

  • lolz

  • Novelty Waves by Biosphere

  • SONG NAME PLEASE!

  • Novelty Waves by Biosphere! .. genius stuff

  • I love La Haine, is there any clip of the Mathieu Kassovitz one?

  • Haha I Saw this today at school i was like i dont get it... but awesome song!!

  • are you judge of american idol?

  • Well thats the thing about Gondry. Even when he doesnt have anything to tell, he tells it like no one else.

  • Oh what a wonderful theme. I can't imagine kids being born way back then. Oh the irony of it! What a lucky stiff to have a watch pocket to store things that didn't exist back then. Especially latex. Oh well, TV don't lye.

  • @sailawaybobby

Quoting wikipedia: "Latex, rubber suspended in water, was invented in 1920. Latex condoms required less labor to produce than cement-dipped rubber condoms, which had to be smoothed by rubbing and trimming. (...) Latex condoms also performed better for the consumer: they were stronger and thinner than rubber condoms, and had a shelf life of five years (compared to three months for rubber)"
