hey everybody PLEASE come check out my creative video's .. i spend a great deal of time on them and get very low views.. be sure to watch (SEEDS) and (SOFTLY CONFINED) and much more. thanks! :)
I think there should be a federal law that legally requires Michel Gondry to make at least 200 commercials per year. Then tv ad spots would be less brainless :D
@toopoable I think when he's in the car and there's a fade to the same shot but during night, it's implied that he goes off to do whatever, work, or something, and later in the night he takes the car again and goes to see his lover.
Even the imagery used in Dave Chappelle's Block Party was amazing at times, which must have been hard because its basically a concert movie. Btw, please check out my music. Thanks.

From Wikipedia: "According to the Guinness World Records 2004, Michel Gondry's Levi's 501 Jeans "Drugstore" spot holds the record for 'Most awards won by a TV commercial'. The commercial was never aired in North America because of the suggestive content involving purchasing latex condoms."
Hard to believe us North Americans are still such puritans. Then again I live in NYC where people don't get their panties in a wad when someone reminds them that sex exists.
i've got many Levis jeans all sorts of colors cause i thought it may attract women's, i also added a strawberry flavor condom in the pocket showing it off, problem is Levis jeans don't seems to works it's all bullshit then i realize the reason why i don't attract girls is because im too ugly.
I really don't understand why clothing companies sell jeans that are pre worn, it's like buying underwear with stains in them. WHY would you buy something like that?
@pandafatxXx I remember pre-faded jeans in the '70s. They looked bad then and now. Nevertheless, they help people with bad taste find each other. That's good. Today, innovative designers make clothes that look good. If you know what looks good, you will be cool with that. You will appreciate their talent, artistry and good taste. You will be thankful for it. I guess what I am getting at is: you are suspicious of an entire category (worn clothing). That indicates a lack of confidence
Beware the ideology. We're studying this ad campaign in our cultural analysis class right now. When you see things like this ad campaign that appeal instantly on so many levels, start asking questions.
@Bournesax His Levi's have a a pocket made for pocket watches, but he used it to put the the condoms he bought in. At the end it says "Watch pockets created in 1873. Abused ever since."
i am looking for a old levis commercial...two puppets hug each other, then the start spinning....does anyone of you know a link? i couldn't find it on youtube...
In recent memory not many commercials have made me laugh out loud. I think that "Notch yo cheese" commercial made me laugh the first time. But this is smart, aesthetically pleasing and more over I watched it a second time and still laughed. The clerk is smiling and shaking his head! Hilarious!
I really love the sense of being "immersed in a 3D silent movie reality" that this clip generates - and the excellent shine&darkness of the photography.
What's unusual for Gondry is the intricate "classic" drama between the people in it - especially all the "faces" - it's somehow unlike other things he has done and I wonder if there were somehow the pressure of contractors or the work of uncredited collaborators involved.
@opdrewman91 please say 1900s was meant to read 1990s also Gordry has been working since the mid to late 80s..hes not new off the block to say the lest
Not only does it have that twist at the end...the look and style and all out creation of it is what astounds me. This is perhaps one of the top 10 commercials I have ever seen.
Does anyone have the levi strauss commericial shot at the Fox theather in Austin, Texas with Mike Cluver watching airport 1975 in dancing at a disco tech
Das ist jetzt tatsächlich der erste Levi´s-Werbeclip, den ich als Kind gesehen habe und an den ich mich erinnern kann; schön, ihn hier wiederzuentdecken.
@tidusxxl It's used to symbolize sex. Trains have been used for this purpose for a long time. Levi's happens to use them pretty often; there's other Levi commercials that incorporate the use of trains as well.
@diiaoxx It's trying to show that you should buy Levi's blue jeans. All commercials are trying to entice you to buy something (or form an opinion about something) whether they're explicit about it or not. Anyway, this commercial just happens to be one of the most stylish I've ever seen.
@MrRaoulin You, sir, have cut me to the quick. You have crushed my self-esteem. I honestly don't remember saying that it was aired in the U.S., however.
We shot this scene many different ways. This was the final cut of this version. Sometimes Michel would have us do over 25 takes for one scene. The film was shot in 1994. The calendar on the wall of the drugstore read 1934. The story took place during the "Great Depression" of the 1930' , when times' were hard. The Comedy Geek says "Seriously?"
We really went through that whole thing for that old joke? This is a classic case of style over substance. The modern arvade-sound music, the quick and skillful edits, the strong period production, with impressive old-film effects.... none of that matters if the actual content is a joke older than the Statue of Liberty.
The ad isn't funny.
The fact that Levi paid a lot of money for the old "It's the pharmacist!" joke, that's funny.
Oh what a wonderful theme. I can't imagine kids being born way back then. Oh the irony of it! What a lucky stiff to have a watch pocket to store things that didn't exist back then. Especially latex. Oh well, TV don't lye.
Quoting wikipedia: "Latex, rubber suspended in water, was invented in 1920. Latex condoms required less labor to produce than cement-dipped rubber condoms, which had to be smoothed by rubbing and trimming. (...) Latex condoms also performed better for the consumer: they were stronger and thinner than rubber condoms, and had a shelf life of five years (compared to three months for rubber)"
