how did you learn how to do that it's so beautiful! you play tabla too you say? how long did it take you to learn tabla and did you learn it by yourself?
@MountainQueen - Thank you for your feedbacks. I've been playing Tabla for 16 years now. I started with one teacher, he is actually a Sarod player, but he knew only the basics, so he taught me that and I did the rest. You can check out my profile here. And basically, what I played on that UDU drum are all kinds of different Indian grooves which I gathered from my Tabla playing.
@JaredSmallwood ~ hahahahaha! when i discovered udus i was kinda high and didn't even know how i was supposed to play it. fifteen minutes after messing around with one, i had a little audience in the house i was visiting!:^D playing udu when you're ripped is hella fun!!!!

Well, I guess by "pink pink" sound you refer to the stokes on the neck of the drum. I do that by using my finger to strike on the side of it. it takes a bit of time and patience but it's cool.
That was very cool! Great groove and finger work! I just bought my first Udu drum and made my first video with it. It's just a simple groove. Loved to learn how to get my fingers moving like yours?
Hey man, Thanks for the compliment. BTW, great video and great playing. keep up the good work. Actually, I play Tabla so I kind of tried to apply the Tabla technique on the Udu drum. It needs practice no doubt.
Well, this instrument is called UDU, and this one is a standard LP one. You can find it in any drum shop or musical instruments place. It is basically a clay pot. I got this one as a present so I don't know how much did it cost but you can check it out.
Thank you all people for the nice comments. I realy appriciate it and I'm happy to hear that I've gave you some inspiration. keep up with the practicing and playing. remember always to enjoy the music!!!
You've got to know, when your hands move that fast..... Somebody is going to be watching. Every time you address an instrument; I'll be watching, and enjoying. Thanks.
Very nice!! go LP museum series udu! for $50 bucks they are well worth it, just dont drop em, I have gone through 2 or 3 udu's, clay+gravity+floor=sad percussionist
I think I found the drum you are playing online - I can tell by the distinctive long neck and what looks like to be a lizard on the body. I think it is this drum: "Latin Percussion Museum Series Udu Drum"
Is there any way you can take a look for me (just google that title) and let me know if you think that is it? I would really appreciat e it Thanks!
thank u man. i think u bought the same one. i'll tell u the truth - there are no two pieces that r alike. each instrument is individual and personal, so buying the same one like i have doesn't mean that u'll get the same sound. but as for that company - they make good quality of drums.
Wow! That was awesome! I am doing a research project on Udu's for my ceramics class and that gave me a great visual and audio representation of an Udu! You're amazing btw! Great sense of rhythm!
thanks man. i wish u all the best with your ceramic class. making an udu is not a simple thing but try to mix some metal poder with the cley and than burn it - u should get the metalic pitch and sound of the indian ghatam.
very cool!!! i'll put some more udu clips in the future.
omg dude that was quite possibly the most amazing thing ive ever seen. where do u get a drum like that? ive been looking for an udu for a while but they seem somewhat hard to come by...
hello and thanks. it's a standart udu that you can find in many music stores. nothing special. i got it as a present but i think you won't have any trouble finding something like that.
Very nice udu solo playing! We have 5 uduplayers in our band... If you want to listen, have a peek at my user page and check out the 'Tervakello' -sessions.
hey there, well this instrument is called "UDU" and it's origin is from africa and south asia. it is a clay pot that it is being burnt inside a great oven in high tempreture. sometimes the udu makers mix the clay with some metal powder to give it the nice pitch.
you can find this instrument in any music store or musical instruments store you go. i know "lp" or "pearl" make these. check out percussion labels.
hey man!!! thanks for the comment. i enjoyed your video very much, and i'm sure we could come up with some great tunes together. as i mentioned here before - i have so many other toys here. i'll upload some new clips soon so stay tuned and keep up the good work.

Are you familiar with this brand?
tintal12 2 months ago
@tintal12 not really, the ones i do know and like very much is the utar and toca
Alxmir23 2 months ago
@Alxmir23 I think it's a standard LP udu drum. Either LP or Remo.

@tintal12 if its either one,i guess its a LP udu,the shape and size is similar to other lp udu i've seen compared to remo

how do you amplify an udu?
i tried a spot microphone and I got horrible feedback!
richardgans01 3 years ago
well, try a condenser mic just on the top area of the udu. give it a bit of an angle so it will catch also the side strokes.
play with it and let me know how di it go.

Ah, you're good! I got two of those myself, both made by me (actually, one of them is probably considered an Udu).
You're much better at this than I am, how long have you been playing? As said, interesting use of fingers.
However, the people I made mine with have a couple of better ones, I prefer the big round ones my self, I like their sound more.
