  • You can really hear the Indian tals. Very sick.

  • That is fantastic!

  • @tachuman Thanks man.

  • what type of udu is that?

  • Well I have to admit that I broke this udu unfortunately...

but I think it is a standard LP series, or Remo...

    I think LP...hehehe

Are you familiar with this brand?

  • @tintal12 not really, the ones i do know and like very much is the utar and toca

  • @Alxmir23 I think it's a standard LP udu drum. Either LP or Remo.

  • @tintal12 if its either one,i guess its a LP udu,the shape and size is similar to other lp udu i've seen compared to remo

  • amazing i loooove this

  • absolutely sick

  • how did you learn how to do that it's so beautiful! you play tabla too you say? how long did it take you to learn tabla and did you learn it by yourself?

  • @MountainQueen - Thank you for your feedbacks. I've been playing Tabla for 16 years now. I started with one teacher, he is actually a Sarod player, but he knew only the basics, so he taught me that and I did the rest. You can check out my profile here. And basically, what I played on that UDU drum are all kinds of different Indian grooves which I gathered from my Tabla playing.

  • i made one of those in my sculpturing class

  • does this sound a bit like a rap beat to anyone else?

  • I got LP udu but I can't do similar sound. Why?

  • I do this on my giant bong every morning

  • @JaredSmallwood ~ hahahahaha! when i discovered udus i was kinda high and didn't even know how i was supposed to play it. fifteen minutes after messing around with one, i had a little audience in the house i was visiting!:^D playing udu when you're ripped is hella fun!!!!

  • SICK!!!!! This was great man!

  • I just got the same lp udu drum, but mine has a soft muted sound. How do you get that great high pink-pink sond?

  • Well, I guess by "pink pink" sound you refer to the stokes on the neck of the drum. I do that by using my finger to strike on the side of it. it takes a bit of time and patience but it's cool.

  • me too!!!!!!!!!!!! mine fell on the floor!!!!

  • I hope it breaks while you're at it........

Amazing groove and very synchronized playing! =)

  • hehehe thanks man. Unfortunately, I did break that UDU already... but I got a new one. Not the same but cool none the less...

  • @tintal12

Wow... The irony makes me feel pretty bad now, sorry about that =(... Still great playing =)

  • That was very cool! Great groove and finger work! I just bought my first Udu drum and made my first video with it. It's just a simple groove. Loved to learn how to get my fingers moving like yours?

If you have time, please check out my video.

    Thanks for sharing your music!

    peace...

  • Hey man, Thanks for the compliment. BTW, great video and great playing. keep up the good work. Actually, I play Tabla so I kind of tried to apply the Tabla technique on the Udu drum. It needs practice no doubt.

  • Thank you! If you have time, please comment under my videos. Thanks again. I hope to find some exercises to get my fingers working. Thanks again.

    Tim

  • Daaaaamn you are good xD

  • Thanks man.

  • *girl* xD

Np. I'm buying one next week... but I bet I'll need lots of practice...

  • awesome! it's a really beautiful little udu

  • hehehe, thanks.

  • incredible all the way though. love the end. how much was that, whats it made out of and where did you get it cause im geting one now.

  • Well, this instrument is called UDU, and this one is a standard LP one. You can find it in any drum shop or musical instruments place. It is basically a clay pot. I got this one as a present so I don't know how much did it cost but you can check it out.

  • lol Who knew slapping a flower pot with holes would be fun :)

  • and will sound amazing.

  • nice, you should play hang drum too.

  • i actually have one. I'll post a clip with it soon.

  • You've got to know, when your hands move that fast..... Somebody is going to be watching. Every time you address an instrument; I'll be watching, and enjoying. Thanks.

  • sweet

  • udu magic is right!! that's awesome!!

  • Great technique!

  • Very nice!! go LP museum series udu! for $50 bucks they are well worth it, just dont drop em, I have gone through 2 or 3 udu's, clay+gravity+floor=sad percussionist

  • Happened to me...truly sad times.

  • Cool stuff!!

  • tengo udu y no se tocar mirando a estos interpretes debo aprender mucho, gracias

  • Wow!!! The instrument is very nice and with a deep sound... but you are very very good at playing it... my compliments!

    Massy

  • awesome!

  • i was thinking of buying one

  • This is one of the dopest things I've ever heard.

  • f*** yeah!

  • hey, great playing!!

I'm looking for a nice Udu that is not too big, and this one sounds fantastic! is this a specific one? ore self made?

    keep it up, great posts!

  • i got this one as a present but i think it's a standard remo udu.

  • Dude excellent, pls post more....

  • thanks. i'll upload some more soon, promise

  • tasty fingers dude!

  • thanx!!!!!!!

  • how do you amplify an udu?

i tried a spot microphone and I got horrible feedback!

  • well, try a condenser mic just on the top area of the udu. give it a bit of an angle so it will catch also the side strokes.

play with it and let me know how di it go.

  • awesome skill, im doing an assignenment on this for music class, keep up the good work and hopefully youll get recognised!

    cheers.

  • thanx and good luck with u work too

  • perfecto :) i like udu :) but in digital "mode" :)

  • Superb playing!

  • thanks man!!!

  • Excellent, who are you man?

  • Your playing has convinced me to buy an UDU!

I think I found the drum you are playing online - I can tell by the distinctive long neck and what looks like to be a lizard on the body. I think it is this drum: "Latin Percussion Museum Series Udu Drum"

Is there any way you can take a look for me (just google that title) and let me know if you think that is it? I would really appreciat e it Thanks!

    Zack

  • thank u man. i think u bought the same one. i'll tell u the truth - there are no two pieces that r alike. each instrument is individual and personal, so buying the same one like i have doesn't mean that u'll get the same sound. but as for that company - they make good quality of drums.

  • Wow! That was awesome! I am doing a research project on Udu's for my ceramics class and that gave me a great visual and audio representation of an Udu! You're amazing btw! Great sense of rhythm!

  • thanks man. i wish u all the best with your ceramic class. making an udu is not a simple thing but try to mix some metal poder with the cley and than burn it - u should get the metalic pitch and sound of the indian ghatam.

very cool!!! i'll put some more udu clips in the future.

  • Hi im gerardo arizpe from mexico.

Felicidades tocas excelente! what music can i hear to get a reference of the udu drum, thanks.

  • thanks for the comment.

well as a refrence i'd say, indian carnatic music from south of india. some african music as well, and persian, or turkish-greek.

    there are my influences mostly.

  • you definately have the rythem inside you! That was sick!! Keep exploring..

  • exelent

  • una pressa

  • omg dude that was quite possibly the most amazing thing ive ever seen. where do u get a drum like that? ive been looking for an udu for a while but they seem somewhat hard to come by...

  • actually i got that udu as a gift but i guess you can find it in any music instrument store.

  • latin percussion dot com i know they have em there but if u google em im sure ull find em

  • So Very Tastefull!!

  • wow that's great.. do you think can I learn it easily?

  • sure thing. the moment you have rythem inside of you all you need is just to explore the instrument.:)))

  • güzel sound saolasın

  • thanks man. i didn't understand what u said.

    sorry.....:)

  • i am also musician in turkey....i said that it is nice sound...

  • shveet, nice skill m8

  • ........ love this sound!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • thank you!!!1:))))

  • son caros estos instrumentos

  • It's great ! I wanted to know what type of udu do you use ? Thanks !

  • hello and thanks. it's a standart udu that you can find in many music stores. nothing special. i got it as a present but i think you won't have any trouble finding something like that.

  • Very nice udu solo playing! We have 5 uduplayers in our band... If you want to listen, have a peek at my user page and check out the 'Tervakello' -sessions.

  • thank you very much. I'm just combining few techniques I learned from my tabla drumming and some other percussions.

  • Ah, you're good! I got two of those myself, both made by me (actually, one of them is probably considered an Udu).

You're much better at this than I am, how long have you been playing? As said, interesting use of fingers.

However, the people I made mine with have a couple of better ones, I prefer the big round ones my self, I like their sound more.

  • thank you very much. I hope to upload some more cool stuff soon.

  • Amazing !

  • Sounds like a big moth trapped in a bottle...

    ...just joking...

    interesting fingerstyle.

I'm more of a hand player

  • thnx. I'm trying to combine all sorts of techniques.

I'm you using all kinds of methods both while on a drum set or playing percussion.

  • Oh wow!

  • wtf is that, tell me what's its call and where i can get one or look at one and stuff

  • hey there, well this instrument is called "UDU" and it's origin is from africa and south asia. it is a clay pot that it is being burnt inside a great oven in high tempreture. sometimes the udu makers mix the clay with some metal powder to give it the nice pitch.

you can find this instrument in any music store or musical instruments store you go. i know "lp" or "pearl" make these. check out percussion labels.

    bye now

  • good lord! dude, contact me, check out my video and tell me you and i could'nt create some cool shit with a loop and your udu playing.

  • hey man!!! thanks for the comment. i enjoyed your video very much, and i'm sure we could come up with some great tunes together. as i mentioned here before - i have so many other toys here. i'll upload some new clips soon so stay tuned and keep up the good work.
