"setup dash sp" I don't know what you mean exactly there?
If I recall properly (again I don't own one of these anymore) you will need a program to force the system speed to 900 Mhz. The EEE 701 originally was underclocked out of factory to 630 Mhz. Unless that has changed in a BIOS update? And this isn't really overclocking either as the chip in the unit is supposed to be 900 Mhz. The underclock was done to allow the battery to last longer. In my 701 heat never was an issue.
You know, to my knowledge, you could be able to run Half Life 2 on high settings very clearly if you enter a few codes in the console. I believe there is one to disable bullet casings flying about and landing on the ground, and so on so fourth.
You mean put it on the EEE itself without a CD/DVD drive? When I had that unit I downloaded STEAM, logged into my account, and then had it download the games I wanted on my account.
me eee pc keeps coming up with error screen whenever a loading screen to next area of map is done. it works again when restarted but does it again at the next one. PLEASE HELP!!!!!
Your kidding right?? Games like this are running 'almost' perfect (speed is still a factor in heavy areas) on these little netbooks. Your simply stupid if you think otherwise for not doing your homework prior to posting such an asinine comment.
If you have just the retail version of the game, No, Steam is not required. Of course if you only own it through Steam then you wold have to install Steam.
I don't have this unit any longer. Was at 2GB when this video was made. Most levels with a ton going on or huge outdoor ones are just to slow to be fully playable on the 701. I later bought a 1000H, again with 2GB, and the experience was better but still not quite good enough.
I just tried myself and hl2 doesn't work that well on the eee 901, in high density areas (like the train station at the beginning) but in low detailed areas like this it will probably work as advertised here.
found an eee pc at best buys web site for 270 thats the best price i've seen and the net book itself is not that bad 1 gb of ram and 120 gb hard drive
can u provide a link on how to do this? I have the MSI Wind, with a O/Ced bios, so it should run leaps and bounds over the 900mhz. Explain or link plz? PLZ??? :)
Add the startup parameters in Steam by right clicking the game in your games list. Select properties and then click "Setlaunch Options" button. Add this set of parameters all on one line
Its a hit or miss with the O/C for everyone. I havent touched nor added anything to my Wind, but I am lucky enough to have the 24% clock stable (totaling 1.9mhz+hyperthreading!). People reach 2.2, with stock cooling, also stable, but its also a hit or miss. I just installed Win 7 (7000). Runs beautifully, even w/o the O/C.
BTW, the Wind is still only an Atom 1.6 (same as my newer Asus EEE 1000H which I do o/c as well as high as 2.0Ghz stable) and I gotta say the difference in HL2 on my old 701 @ 900mhz (which is what made this video) and the 1000H while o/c'd is negligible at best. Both units have 2gig RAM as well, not sure if that factors in but thought I would throw that out.
The EEE itself was running 900mhz instead of it's default 630mhz setting. Which 900mhz on the 701 is actually what the chip itself really can do so not really overclocking.
mine worked on my 904ha with it overcloked to 1.8gh upgrade to 2gb of ram 160gb hdd and an external 250gb hdd same stuff otherwise ran half life 2 at 800by600 at 43 frames smoothly throuout the game it was great u should check it out.
I just got my ASUS n10j a2 its soo cool im now an official netbook user for ever haha its soo fun to play games everywhere I go nice video man you inspired me 5/5
I've almost contemplated switching to the N10J-A1 or A2 but really I've not had the 1000H all too long yet and I'm sure something is around the corner as always. I like the idea of a half decent video card though.
Right click the game you want to add the switches to and select Properties. Under the General tab click the Set Launch Options and enter the command.
Be aware this speeds things up a bunch but, will cause some glitches here and there as well. Mainly in multiplayer from what I remember, but it's been a while so don't hold me to that.
Sadly it never did work 100% and I've never bothered to continue working on a method to get them running. My main goal initially with those drivers was to add 640x480 to the original 4G 701 EEE whcih they did. The small speed boost and ability to do scaling was a nice side effect, but I believe the drivers failing. IEGD just was never meant to run the GMA915 like that.
lol i played HL 2 on a IBM Thinkpad T42 and it had ATI Mobile Radeon from 1999 i think around 64MB and a Intel 1.6GHz i couldn't see the water BECUSE it whas black Oorha
CSS,TF2 and Portal all get 10 FPS and Portal crashes at halfway through the game but CS 1.6 gets 35-50 FPS I do believe. Halo runs a bit slow, UT2004 runs nicely. Send me a message in my profile if you want to see all the games the EEE PC can play :). I cant wait to get mine!

forget about playing it with this laptop, laptops aren't made for gamming, framerate sucks. And TF2 takes lot of RAM. If you want to play it you should get 50 FPS at max video settings, and you're going to get 15 FPS on MIN video settings with this laptop
Awesome little system. Actually just sold mine however and now I own the 1000H model. Little bit bigger, but a lot more machine.
Asus is making really good stuff. But do NOT expect them to be heavy gaming platforms. They play a bunch and play it well, but are not made as a "gaming" PC per say.
It does run "well". Not great or crappy. It obviously has some issues when running, but works good enough to play single player for sure. Sadly though to get it working well you should use the command parameter that forces DX7. In doing this it almost renders multiplayer modes unplayable. Not because they will not run, but because most servers tend to force players to use DX9. I think it's because of texture issues and hacks that could be used.
Add the startup parameters in Steam by right clicking the games in your games list. Select properties and then click "Setlaunch Options" button. Add this set of parameters all on one line
The desktop was set to 800x480 and I'm not using any scaling in the video. I did use a command line parameter to adjust the width to 800 and height to 480. To me it looks like it's 800x480, but any overlays or menus are being cropped as they only appear to run at 800x600 I guess.
Either external USB CD-ROM/DVD or another PC can be used to make ISO images. Then load on EEE using Daemon Tools or Alcohol 120% and install from there to a large SD or external USB HD.
I have tried the StreamMyGame and personally I thought it was junk. Even being 10 foot from my AP couldn't give that dog enough bandwidth to run any "decent" game.
i believe thats a video.. why? well because i can see advanced reflections, smoke (really cpu consuming), lots of freakng particles and the guns have a high poligon count there (its definetly not the low settings).
but theres the factor that the moving with the mouse-pad is small (wich unfortunatly is evidence that it is real)
i see where you're coming from, but it most likely works so well because he turned the textures waaay down, plus there's not much going on at that moment so it wont put much strain on the CPU
Plug a disk drive in a USB slot or set a cd/dvd-drive to shared...on the network.
Or do what most people do nowadays, download it :)
An I think the bottom end model of the EEE has 512mb of RAM, I'm not entirely sure as this doesn't really interest me (I searched for Max Payne, just curious to see how it ran on the EE when I saw it ^^)

the graphics card is an intel gma so that is nowhere near needeed
to run hl2 even you would need the top spec eee
my computer runs runs tf2 at 20~50fps in dx8.1 at high settings and i have

SoFLazerTag 3 years ago
how do you get games on the eee pc
what are all the different ways/options on how to get them on the eee pc?
jester070993 3 years ago
Either external USB CD-ROM/DVD or another PC can be used to make ISO images. Then load on EEE using Daemon Tools or Alcohol 120% and install from there to a large SD or external USB HD.

oh ok
or can i get it off bit torrent?
is it ok to download bittorent on the eee pc
jester070993 3 years ago
No clue. I prefer to actually buy software I use.

R u this guy that streams ur games? -.-
FredrikEastling 3 years ago
Nope. Real deal running on my 701 4G
I have tried the StreamMyGame and personally I thought it was junk. Even being 10 foot from my AP couldn't give that dog enough bandwidth to run any "decent" game.

right on

I can tell that doesn't have great graphics because it has the same horrific water as my old PC did.

its running... just use your external hdd, and bam, enjoy half life 2 (requiring at least 1.2GHz) on a computer that has only 900MHz :D
See my videos for proof!

What settings are these on?
QuantumCarl 3 years ago
i believe thats a video.. why? well because i can see advanced reflections, smoke (really cpu consuming), lots of freakng particles and the guns have a high poligon count there (its definetly not the low settings).
but theres the factor that the moving with the mouse-pad is small (wich unfortunatly is evidence that it is real)
elperelol 3 years ago
How is it unfortunate that it's real? I'd imagine that's a good thing
bob10001234 3 years ago
i cant explain to myself why its so good@rendering, thus, as i want to remain logical to myself, its a bad thing :P
elperelol 3 years ago
i see where you're coming from, but it most likely works so well because he turned the textures waaay down, plus there's not much going on at that moment so it wont put much strain on the CPU
bob10001234 3 years ago
also can you just get steam and run your games or what do you need to do to make them playable
mantax55 3 years ago

mantax55 3 years ago
Sweet. I'm getting mine in 2-3 days (Having it shipped) and I'm gonna give it 2 Gigs of RAM, and install Half life 2 on a SD card or something.
theofficalmiga 3 years ago
2 gigs of ram? Is that possible on eee
v1lle3 3 years ago
Yes, you just gotta take the time to do it yourself
bob10001234 3 years ago
In a quick answer - No, The guy before seems stupid* (*Either that or im stupid :D) And u cant install half life 2 on an SD card..?
mahoneyj2 3 years ago
Is this an EEE 4g, 8g or 701 PC?
bfgmovies 3 years ago
that has gotta be a low graphics setting, plus what ram do u have in it. Also how do you install without a disk drive ?
Thanks Josh
joshyboy999 3 years ago
Install it from a network.
Plug a disk drive in a USB slot or set a cd/dvd-drive to shared...on the network.
Or do what most people do nowadays, download it :)
An I think the bottom end model of the EEE has 512mb of RAM, I'm not entirely sure as this doesn't really interest me (I searched for Max Payne, just curious to see how it ran on the EE when I saw it ^^)
aGxAnima 3 years ago
what version of the eee PC is it? How much does it cost?
bfgmovies 3 years ago
looks like u're running the game in 800x600, not just the menus.
could hardly see the HUD.
jamesjan 3 years ago
800x480 actually.
Vegabondsx 3 years ago
might it run tf2?
TehMangoMan 3 years ago
I just ordered an Eee. I don't plan on trying TF2 though since according to other users it wont go ingame and the screen stays blank.
Vegabondsx 3 years ago
just joking around, good work man!
j3k2006 3 years ago
