  • HL2 plays on my ti4200

  • setup dash sp?

Is that what it is to set my eee to 900 mhz??

  • @vancar6

"setup dash sp" I don't know what you mean exactly there?

If I recall properly (again I don't own one of these anymore) you will need a program to force the system speed to 900 Mhz. The EEE 701 originally was underclocked out of factory to 630 Mhz. Unless that has changed in a BIOS update? And this isn't really overclocking either as the chip in the unit is supposed to be 900 Mhz. The underclock was done to allow the battery to last longer. In my 701 heat never was an issue.

  • does this work on a normal eee pc? mine doesnt say ASUS

  • @AlexTheDrummer110 , 'EEE' is Asus corp signature name so if yours has that it is an Asus brand.

  • You know, to my knowledge, you could be able to run Half Life 2 on high settings very clearly if you enter a few codes in the console. I believe there is one to disable bullet casings flying about and landing on the ground, and so on so fourth.

  • I have Eee PC 701 8g and i try to launch HL2 and it launched! Sure with lags on opened spaces...bu ravenholm runs smooth...

I played at max settings :)

Thanks for vid, i will try this configs

  • Why dont you do a lower resolution? Youd be able to see the screen and get less lag..

  • is that the eee 701!? dude this game is AMAZING, i'm gonna install it on my eee wu*

  • @nenevader25 , yep 701 with 2gig RAM and running from a USB HD

  • @SoFLazerTag how much better would it run on a 1000he with n280 1.66GHz and 2GB ram?

  • ram?

  • whic one is this the 1005ha or 5pe or 8ha??

  • how you can put that game on the pc?

  • You mean put it on the EEE itself without a CD/DVD drive? When I had that unit I downloaded STEAM, logged into my account, and then had it download the games I wanted on my account.

  • OK.

  • how do i run the eee at a full 900mhz???

  • eee ctl, avalable at modmyeee(dot) com

  • @vancar6 google eeectl

  • @whatatidymess

    u r a god u know that??

    Thanks SOSOSOSOSO MUCH!

  • if you can good playend , yes or yes, you most set de resolution in 600x400

  • me eee pc keeps coming up with error screen whenever a loading screen to next area of map is done. it works again when restarted but does it again at the next one. PLEASE HELP!!!!!

  • But the resolution is wrong

  • This game is really smooth on an acer aspire one, possibly due to the faster processor.

  • can you suggest some more good more or less recent games to play on the new EEE 1000HE?

  • Fallout 1-2, age of empires 2, etc :E?

    Cs 1.6 hmm

  • Your kidding right?? Games like this are running 'almost' perfect (speed is still a factor in heavy areas) on these little netbooks. Your simply stupid if you think otherwise for not doing your homework prior to posting such an asinine comment.

  • Sorry, I didn't know that netbooks could run this stuff. Sorry for being such a doushebag!

  • to run it on the eee pc do you have to instal steam??

  • If you have just the retail version of the game, No, Steam is not required. Of course if you only own it through Steam then you wold have to install Steam.

  • you do have to have steam

  • does your eeepc have 2gb of ram or 1?

I really want to play it but yea..

  • I don't have this unit any longer. Was at 2GB when this video was made. Most levels with a ton going on or huge outdoor ones are just to slow to be fully playable on the 701. I later bought a 1000H, again with 2GB, and the experience was better but still not quite good enough.

  • lol r u playing with the touchpad??? lol your good with it if u r

  • I was in fact using the touchpad in the video. I don't know about 'good' but it worked at the time.

  • I have a 1000HE, could I use those same parameters with CS:S and achieve the same results or is there more? Sorry, I'm a PC gaming noob lol

  • Should work with any HL2 engine game.

  • The only thing that kills it is the loading. It takes so long!

  • nice vid! Watching anyone play an FPS on a touchpad makes me wince, But having this running is the only reason you need for carrying a mouse.

  • lol it works...

  • Good job, thanks for the vid!

  • fail what exactly?

  • it works but 5-10fps average on the 901.

  • I just tried myself and hl2 doesn't work that well on the eee 901, in high density areas (like the train station at the beginning) but in low detailed areas like this it will probably work as advertised here.

  • you must patched the game

  • really cool. do you know if i can play audiosurfer?

  • are you using those parameters because the computer cannot handle it?

  • obviously

  • could have been compataibility problems i dunno

  • i want to see maplestory or counterstrike 1.6 played on it.

  • I really want to see maplestory, that is one game I would definitely be playing on it.

  • Both work just fine, I tried them myself

  • i haved played cs 1.6 on my asus eee pc 901

  • in low settings?

    wats the fps? 15-20?

how is it playin on 901?

  • Its Counter-Strike 1.6, Gold Source engine. of coarse half-lie 1 runs on this fine.

  • native res on any eee pc is 1024x600, it is however, the correct aspect ratio.

  • it's a 7" eee PC

  • Oops, I have a 900ha. I probably should have looked that up...

  • ME 2 YAY

  • i just wanna buy a netbook machine for long journeys. im thinking about an Eee PC 900, i think it would be the best at this price, what do ya think?

  • found an eee pc at best buys web site for 270 thats the best price i've seen and the net book itself is not that bad 1 gb of ram and 120 gb hard drive

  • does your hl2 crash alot?

  • mine isnt working

  • not that this is a forum, but that has to be one of the most unhelpful posts I've seen in quite some time. hehe

  • The beauty of HL2 is that you could probably get it to run on a ZX spectrum if configured properly.

  • lol. I get your point, but I think your stretching the boundaries a little there, hehe.

  • can u provide a link on how to do this? I have the MSI Wind, with a O/Ced bios, so it should run leaps and bounds over the 900mhz. Explain or link plz? PLZ??? :)

  • Add the startup parameters in Steam by right clicking the game in your games list. Select properties and then click "Setlaunch Options" button. Add this set of parameters all on one line

-console -dxlevel 70 -width 800 -height 480 -novid

BTW, What speed does the Wind run stable at when overclocking?

  • Its a hit or miss with the O/C for everyone. I havent touched nor added anything to my Wind, but I am lucky enough to have the 24% clock stable (totaling 1.9mhz+hyperthreading!). People reach 2.2, with stock cooling, also stable, but its also a hit or miss. I just installed Win 7 (7000). Runs beautifully, even w/o the O/C.

  • how do i get more memory so i can play hl2?? the engine error pops up and its says that im out of memory how do i get this game to not crash

  • (PS. Why dont you put the instructions in the description? Everyone whos ever played HL2 would love to know how to do so again on a netbook!)

  • Good idea. :)

BTW, the Wind is still only an Atom 1.6 (same as my newer Asus EEE 1000H which I do o/c as well as high as 2.0Ghz stable) and I gotta say the difference in HL2 on my old 701 @ 900mhz (which is what made this video) and the 1000H while o/c'd is negligible at best. Both units have 2gig RAM as well, not sure if that factors in but thought I would throw that out.

  • tweaked?

  • The EEE itself was running 900mhz instead of it's default 630mhz setting. Which 900mhz on the 701 is actually what the chip itself really can do so not really overclocking.

  • shenanagins!

  • Isn't that a restaurant? ;)

  • I don't want a large Farva, I want a litre of COLA!

  • It will play CSS but It will lag when you play with too many people. But CS 1.6 will run perfect even with 20people. Hope I could help you^^

  • lol your kidding me?

  • nope.

  • unbelieveable

  • believe!

  • mine worked on my 904ha with it overcloked to 1.8gh upgrade to 2gb of ram 160gb hdd and an external 250gb hdd same stuff otherwise ran half life 2 at 800by600 at 43 frames smoothly throuout the game it was great u should check it out.

  • Now play portal. I almost killes my laptop playing it. It got sooooo hot.

  • You are so lucky, I can't even run HL2 on my 19 inch laptop not even whith every set minimum

  • I just got my ASUS n10j a2 its soo cool im now an official netbook user for ever haha its soo fun to play games everywhere I go nice video man you inspired me 5/5

  • I've almost contemplated switching to the N10J-A1 or A2 but really I've not had the 1000H all too long yet and I'm sure something is around the corner as always. I like the idea of a half decent video card though.

  • duz the epc have a vid card or sumfin??

  • Yes, The 701 model seen in my two videos uses an integrated Intel 910GMA.

  • Haha that was total ownage on Freeman, when he got blinded, shot and manhacked... :P

  • Once again I have to refer back to the touchpad, lol.

  • I will try this on my Everun Note later on.

  • can you explain to us how you made it run? And what model of EEE is it?

  • i thinks its a 7 series maybe

cos the 9 and 1000 have 1.6 ghz

  • Not the 900?

  • This was on my 4G 701 whcih I no longer have (switched to a 1000H). It was running 900Mhz and had 2gig RAM. I used some switches when running

-console -dxlevel 70 -width 800 -height 480 -novid

  • Where did you put

-console -dxlevel 70 -width 800 -height 480 -novid in? Respond quickly

  • Right click the game you want to add the switches to and select Properties. Under the General tab click the Set Launch Options and enter the command.

Be aware this speeds things up a bunch but, will cause some glitches here and there as well. Mainly in multiplayer from what I remember, but it's been a while so don't hold me to that.

  • Igen .. eegy ilyen lykban elfut de mikor nagy teret kel mozgtani ....

  • wow thats fast, i get 10fps at this place on my eeepc 901

  • Wow, You suck.... Lol only joking! Is this all true what i am seeing? Im getting one so cheap!

  • i can tell you the eeepc canot even touch the minimmum requiments for tf2

you need 1.7ghz cpu and the eeepc has 0.7! (some have 1.6

the graphics card is an intel gma so that is nowhere near needeed

to run hl2 even you would need the top spec eee

my computer runs runs tf2 at 20~50fps in dx8.1 at high settings and i have

    p4 2.8

    768ram

    and a pny geforce 6200

and that comp cost a lot less than an eee.

still the eeepc is great for browsing and old games i just hope they bring the price down

  • It works... And is confirmed.

  • lol but can you carry your huse piece of shit with you?

    no ;)

  • yes it is micro atx :p

  • Why doesn't it show the health, suit, and ammo monitors completely?

  • He invented hacked drivers which enable you to run scaled-down larger resolutions. But it appears to not be working properly...

  • Sadly it never did work 100% and I've never bothered to continue working on a method to get them running. My main goal initially with those drivers was to add 640x480 to the original 4G 701 EEE whcih they did. The small speed boost and ability to do scaling was a nice side effect, but I believe the drivers failing. IEGD just was never meant to run the GMA915 like that.

  • lol i played HL 2 on a IBM Thinkpad T42 and it had ATI Mobile Radeon from 1999 i think around 64MB and a Intel 1.6GHz i couldn't see the water BECUSE it whas black Oorha

  • It can still be overclocked??

  • Don't you hate manhacks? :D

  • It runs half life 2 with PSP type frame rates on the smallest laptop in the world. sounds good to me!

  • what the fuck u mean with this? i got a psp and it never laggs...

  • Im going to get one to play Q3 and some of my older games on it..but how does it fare with TF2, Sorce and 1.6?

  • CSS,TF2 and Portal all get 10 FPS and Portal crashes at halfway through the game but CS 1.6 gets 35-50 FPS I do believe. Halo runs a bit slow, UT2004 runs nicely. Send me a message in my profile if you want to see all the games the EEE PC can play :). I cant wait to get mine!

  • tf2 on minimal getting 20FPS!!! im playing it :D and its not annoying 20fps is quite good

  • ya i know it meets the requirements.. but i jus wanna know if it can run without the lags and with decent frame rates so anybody has eee pc to test teamfortress 2??

  • I'm embarrassed to say that my computer sucks more than a Eee PC, but it's true!

  • my laptop does too, only because the video card isnt a geforce or radeon.

It doesnt have the pixel shaders and HW lighting apparently. Fucking shit.

  • Not bad. It runs the game well. Use the G-gun on the manhacks next time ;)

  • You should have benchmarked the games' average FPS with FRAPS and then showed us exactly how well they performed on the EEE.

  • is the eee pc able to handle team fortress 2??

  • I doubt it, but I don't have an eee pc to test on :/

  • it meets the tf2 minimum system requirements and some of the recommended. im considering this laptop and i really want it to play tf2.

  • forget about playing it with this laptop, laptops aren't made for gamming, framerate sucks. And TF2 takes lot of RAM. If you want to play it you should get 50 FPS at max video settings, and you're going to get 15 FPS on MIN video settings with this laptop

  • What kind of computer is this?

  • It's an Asus EEE PC.

    Pentium 900Mhz Mobile CPU

    2gig RAM

    30gig USB 2.0 HD

    Intel GMA 910 video chip

Awesome little system. Actually just sold mine however and now I own the 1000H model. Little bit bigger, but a lot more machine.

Asus is making really good stuff. But do NOT expect them to be heavy gaming platforms. They play a bunch and play it well, but are not made as a "gaming" PC per say.

  • dude you have no aim. stick with the crowbar.

  • Kinda hard to aim when using a laptop touch pad. :P

  • I know it is meant for show off. But does it run well? Or really crap?

  • It does run "well". Not great or crappy. It obviously has some issues when running, but works good enough to play single player for sure. Sadly though to get it working well you should use the command parameter that forces DX7. In doing this it almost renders multiplayer modes unplayable. Not because they will not run, but because most servers tend to force players to use DX9. I think it's because of texture issues and hacks that could be used.

  • cool

  • how can this work on the eee pc..? I have a thinkpad t60 with a GMA945 and i only get like 2fps...

  • magic?

hehe, It does require you to use a command switch when starting to force it to DX7.

  • Could you describe how to to this? :S

  • Add the startup parameters in Steam by right clicking the games in your games list. Select properties and then click "Setlaunch Options" button. Add this set of parameters all on one line

-console -dxlevel 70 -width 800 -height 480 -novid

    that's it.

  • HAHA you fail, it's not running at 800x480, you're running it at 800x600 cropped, you lose alot of FPS doing that.

Damn I can't wait till I get my EEE 900...

  • The desktop was set to 800x480 and I'm not using any scaling in the video. I did use a command line parameter to adjust the width to 800 and height to 480. To me it looks like it's 800x480, but any overlays or menus are being cropped as they only appear to run at 800x600 I guess.

  • make the height smaller then...

  • On the EEE 701 this can only be done from clone mode or using a 3rd party app to force 640x480. Either way it slows down the video a bunch.

  • does tf2 work ???????? plz reply wanna play it at work lol

  • No clue. I have TF2, but never bothered to try on the EEE.

  • how do you get games on the eee pc

what are all the different ways/options on how to get them on the eee pc?

  • Either external USB CD-ROM/DVD or another PC can be used to make ISO images. Then load on EEE using Daemon Tools or Alcohol 120% and install from there to a large SD or external USB HD.

  • oh ok

or can i get it off bit torrent?

is it ok to download bittorent on the eee pc

  • No clue. I prefer to actually buy software I use.

  • R u this guy that streams ur games? -.-

  • Nope. Real deal running on my 701 4G

I have tried the StreamMyGame and personally I thought it was junk. Even being 10 foot from my AP couldn't give that dog enough bandwidth to run any "decent" game.

  • right on

  • I can tell that doesn't have great graphics because it has the same horrific water as my old PC did.

  • its running... just use your external hdd, and bam, enjoy half life 2 (requiring at least 1.2GHz) on a computer that has only 900MHz :D

    See my videos for proof!

  • 1.7 ghz or graphic card nvidiagt90666

  • What settings are these on?

  • i believe thats a video.. why? well because i can see advanced reflections, smoke (really cpu consuming), lots of freakng particles and the guns have a high poligon count there (its definetly not the low settings).

but theres the factor that the moving with the mouse-pad is small (wich unfortunatly is evidence that it is real)

  • How is it unfortunate that it's real? I'd imagine that's a good thing

  • i cant explain to myself why its so good@rendering, thus, as i want to remain logical to myself, its a bad thing :P

  • i see where you're coming from, but it most likely works so well because he turned the textures waaay down, plus there's not much going on at that moment so it wont put much strain on the CPU

  • also can you just get steam and run your games or what do you need to do to make them playable

  • Install ^^

  • can you post a video of you playing team fortress 2 on the asus ee pc please thank you

  • Sweet. I'm getting mine in 2-3 days (Having it shipped) and I'm gonna give it 2 Gigs of RAM, and install Half life 2 on a SD card or something.

  • 2 gigs of ram? Is that possible on eee

  • Yes, you just gotta take the time to do it yourself

  • In a quick answer - No, The guy before seems stupid* (*Either that or im stupid :D) And u cant install half life 2 on an SD card..?

  • Is this an EEE 4g, 8g or 701 PC?

  • that has gotta be a low graphics setting, plus what ram do u have in it. Also how do you install without a disk drive ?

    Thanks Josh

  • Install it from a network.

Plug a disk drive in a USB slot or set a cd/dvd-drive to shared...on the network.

Or do what most people do nowadays, download it :)

An I think the bottom end model of the EEE has 512mb of RAM, I'm not entirely sure as this doesn't really interest me (I searched for Max Payne, just curious to see how it ran on the EE when I saw it ^^)

  • what version of the eee PC is it? How much does it cost?

  • looks like u're running the game in 800x600, not just the menus.

    could hardly see the HUD.

  • 800x480 actually.

  • might it run tf2?

  • I just ordered an Eee. I don't plan on trying TF2 though since according to other users it wont go ingame and the screen stays blank.

  • just joking around, good work man!

  • 1) start up your other pc

    2) turn rez down

    3) turn HL2 settings down

    4) underclock

    5) record video

    6) ????

    7) PROFIT!
