When I saw Sandy's sketch I knew right away that she wouldn't have a chance. Unless caricatures have a very STRONG likeliness to the individual then it will look absolutely terrible and I'm afraid her decision to go that route seems very amateur for a professional cake maker, especially having that figure be her focal point. I think the audience feels bad for her at this point, hence all the uplifted support.
While all the cakes were gorgeous, I think the Birthday Safari cake was more child-oriented which is why it won. I mean, the Land and Sea cake was absolutely stunning, but may have been enjoyed more by an older client.
@ginaven1 It's hard to make something look life-like. I used to draw people with pig noses! But now, I can draw spot on ones that are really cute! It's all a matter of how much practice you have. This lady, she tried doing something new.... which is great of course, but if she wanted to try something like this, she should have practiced a little more or done something else if she knew that she was going to be on tv competing for 10,000! >.<
