On this movie, I guess it was a good thing that Lois Lane got to take her vacation to Bermuda just in time since if she stayed in Metropolis and maybe flew with Superman and found out that he turned bad, she probably would want to break up with him.

well really you didn't see much of the movie, you see just about all of richard pryor here, but none of clark kent going to his high school reunion and meeting that other girl, and when he splits into good and bad and the bad superman is going around causing trouble... and that seen where he fights himself which was pretty cool
@woody76flat9 only the ABC cut showed the space credits which should have been in the theaterical cut as well. I always thought showing the credits during the Metropolis street scene was the first mistake in this movie among others like allowing Pryor steal the movie. There's something about the superman theme at the beginning of 1 and 2 that feels patriotic. Something thats missing from 3.

1. "Richard Pryor has come to Metropolis". WTF?? He's not playing himself in this movie. 2. He doesn't come to Metropolis to sell alcohol 3. He's NOT "The best con-man"... In fact, it's made quite clear in the film that he's one of the worst. 4. The super computer doesn't "control the Earth" or "change the weather" nor does it cause any of the events shown when those lines are mentioned. 5 The super computer doesn't "reprogram Superman".
How the hell did Richard Pryor end up in this movie? Did he owe money to the producers or something? I mean, considering his personality and the nature of his comedy, one would assume he'd have to be in deep financial shit to agree to whitewash his act.

As with most franchises the 3rd is usually where it gets reeaal bad. There are a few exceptions for the 2nd installments (Godfather II, The Empire Strikes Back etc, arguably of course) but when you get to 3 it get to churning out a product. I dare anyone to name me a 3rd installment of any franchise that was really worthy of anything. Superman 2 would have been right up to par with 1 if Donner hadn't been shitcanned, it still is a worthy sequel with the Lester's footage along Donner's.

@Gossage54 I see you're point, but flame me if you want, I think revenge of the sith was good enough to be compared to the other movies. The first two were absolutely horrid, but me personally, thought ROTS was a massive improvement. In fact, I like ROTS even more than ANH, it's up there with Return for me. Empire is my fav though.
@iowaguitarshred I agree ROTS was a vast improvement over those first two. The anticipation of Anakin transforming into Darth helped with keeping people on the edge of their seats for this one. You really felt strongly I see though putting it ahead of ANH. I can't go that far myself. ESB is for me (and many) hands down the best of the series no contest. I'll never forget seeing it in the theater and the gasps when Vader revealed he was Luke's father (could never be done now thanks internet)
@Gossage54 Oh yeah, I totally agree with ESB being the best, that was what first got me into Star wars. I've just never personally liked ANH, even before the prequel trilogy I thought it was "meh" compared to the ESB and RotJ, but I do think ANH was still better than phantom and clones, just not as good as revenge.

yeah, the trailer assumes that lois is in the movie at 2:45, yet she is hardly in there at all (margot kidder left the project in protest after the richard donner thing). it's near-false advertising if you think about it!
What killed this movie was Robert Vaughn and Richard Pryor. They should have kept a serious tone throughout the film, scrapped the idea of a super-computer, got Mario Puzo to do this script also, kicked the Salkind's to the curb, and gave Richard Donner free reigns to do what he wanted. case in point...have you seen the "Richard Donner" version of Superman II? ...Much, Much better film!

If you look at this movie for what it is then it is perfectly fine. This is NOT a Superman movie, it is a Richard Pryor movie. Only Richard Pryor could have the comedic genius to upstage SUPERMAN. Two giants in the entertainment industry. Chris Reeve and Richard Pryor. Doesn't get much better. I agree that Superman IV was the only 'unwatchable' Superman film. With the low budget special effects, terrible acting, and ridiculous plot, only Gene Hackman keeps that movie somewhat entertaining

The first two were absolutely horrid, but me personally, thought ROTS was a massive improvement. In fact, I like ROTS even more than ANH, it's up there with Return for me. Empire is my fav though.

@iowaguitarshred I agree ROTS was a vast improvement over those first two. The anticipation of Anakin transforming into Darth helped with keeping people on the edge of their seats for this one. You really felt strongly I see though putting it ahead of ANH. I can't go that far myself. ESB is for me (and many) hands down the best of the series no contest. I'll never forget seeing it in the theater and the gasps when Vader revealed he was Luke's father (could never be done now thanks internet)

@Gossage54 Oh yeah, I totally agree with ESB being the best, that was what first got me into Star wars. I've just never personally liked ANH, even before the prequel trilogy I thought it was "meh" compared to the ESB and RotJ, but I do think ANH was still better than phantom and clones, just not as good as revenge.

@Gossage54 Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. My personal favorite out of the series. It really sets the mood for the following films and introduces the fans to the darker elements of Harry Potter.

Actually Richard Pryor didnt go to Metropolis, he went to Smallville. The trailer voice guy got it wrong, I am the worlds best Superman expert.

This is the greatest trailer ever, "This time Richard Pryor has come to metropolis" lmao, they should do this for every movie trailer, just use the actors' real name. Is it just me or does it seem like they had a richard pryor movie they had trouble getting off the ground so they were like will throw superman in it and just have richard pryor do his thing.

This is one of the worst trailers of all time. It 's just a three and a half minute synopsis of the entire movie, including the ending and every major plot point. If you watch this trailer, there is no point to watching the movie because it shows Superman destroying the super-computer. Not that you'd want to sit through this shit movie anyway.

What killed this movie was Robert Vaughn and Richard Pryor. They should have kept a serious tone throughout the film, scrapped the idea of a super-computer, got Mario Puzo to do this script also, kicked the Salkind's to the curb, and gave Richard Donner free reigns to do what he wanted. case in point...have you seen the "Richard Donner" version of Superman II? ...Much, Much better film!

I agree w/Siskel & Ebert when he said that the film had too many stunts and it was also missing a great love affair and Richard Pryor was so wasted on this film and as much as I like Robert Vaughn as The Man From U.N.C.L.E., he wasn't fit to play a Super Villian in Superman and plus, he was a poor man's Lex Luthor and not to mention, the Super Computer was STUPID and also, I blame Richard Lester for this

I liked Superman 2 the best - Superman 3 had the best scenes - i.e the bad Superman in the bar and fighting Clark . Reeve is/was Superman noone else comes near to his acting of Superman !

the second one, I really liked it (both Lestler and Donner versions)
the third one was pretty entertaining (underrated if you ask me)
the fourth one was just... horrible
& Superman Returns is a good welcome back of the franchise.

If you look at this movie for what it is then it is perfectly fine. This is NOT a Superman movie, it is a Richard Pryor movie. Only Richard Pryor could have the comedic genius to upstage SUPERMAN. Two giants in the entertainment industry. Chris Reeve and Richard Pryor. Doesn't get much better. I agree that Superman IV was the only 'unwatchable' Superman film. With the low budget special effects, terrible acting, and ridiculous plot, only Gene Hackman keeps that movie somewhat entertaining
