  • I'd suck his dick and I'm not even gay

  • @SirBeefoLot damn, I mean he kicks ass in all but damn LOL

  • Unbelievable !!!!! I remember his concert in MSG .........

  • he used to be bald?

  • The brilliance of this man will live on and on and on .... He is a gift to western culture. Long live Sir Elton

  • Elton your a 'killer' what i have been hearing this song on the radio all my life , and it wasnt till today that i heard it and realized its completely beautiful ! What a song , the butterfly are free to fly !part is what captured me , no wonder hes still around today , great piano playing again he is a killer ! Piano killer in a good way !

  • Absolute genius piano playing on this.

  • The only man who grows more hair the older he gets.... Elton defies the laws of nature.

  • Just wow.

  • Comparing the vocal range then and now is just unreal..how much higher his range was back then as the toll was not yet taken of all the years..thank the Lord for audio and video recording

  • @psalmsurfer1 wiki fact for ya: "John originally wrote and recorded it in A-flat, though after having vocal cord surgery in 1987 that resulted in the loss of his falsetto range, John began performing the song in a lower key of F."

  • love ~ :o) ~

  • This is why modern music is awful. Elton John can sing just as well, perhaps better, live as on recordings. It is a shame that most musicians now cannot sing live without an auto-tune machine attached to their microphone.

  • Truly amazing performance. The album version is outstanding but this is heart!

WHAT IS THE SOURCE OF THIS? Looks like some sort of compilation DVD judging by the little vignet in the opening? Does anyone know how I can get my hands on a more crisp version (even though if it will probably never look very HD) :_)

  • @morgannetrom This was taken from the Love Songs DVD. Out of several songs from the '70s, this was the only actual performance taken from that decade (the others were all performed live during the '80s, mostly 1984). I believe it was only made available in Europe and the UK, so you may have to bootleg it if you're in North America. The original concert is the 1976 performance at the Edinburgh Playhouse Theatre, which was made available on laserdisc, and has since been bootlegged to DVD.

  • Elton is the man!

  • this is beauty one of the greatest artis ever

  • I love this version, Elton and his Piano......priceless

  • @thundernight Totally agree with you there.

  • Elton johns the shit.

    Droga!!

    Escute-me bem

Eu estou dormindo comigo mesmo esta noite

Salvo no tempo, graças a Deus minha música ainda está viva

  • Now I know were hipsters get their inspiration for eyeglasses.

  • Wow, what a freaking great version!! His voice was so high when he was younger but he still as an amazing voice!! Sir Elton is the man!!

  • 0:00 LOOK AT THAT FUCKING SMILE. Happy fucking new years.

  • one of the best performances ive ever seen.it took balls to go out and do that lol.

  • Like if you listen to this at 4:00 in the morning.

  • I totally forgot he went bald so young. So does he wear a rug now?

  • @kalloused It's a hair weave, or at least, it was in the '90s. He may have moved on to a different procedure since then.

  • Great singer...great performance

  • Excellent performance!!! Love how he sang the second chorus and beyond!!!

  • que voz

  • God Bless Elton!

  • one of the greatest pop songs ever written or ever will be written.

  • Wow! love those pipes baby!!!! xo :)

  • One my all time favorites, not just from EJ.

  • To me this is the best version of this great song! Thanks for posting...

  • Agree with Jetset900. As a songwriter, does it get any better?

  • Best ever

  • my favorite elthon jonhs song, give him a piano and you have the whole thing set

  • ahhh... elton john...freddie mercury...mark fowler...what a trio

  • passion

  • I think this is one of the most heartfelt, emotionally charged songs ever written - beautifully performed here, nice one Reg!

  • ..don't go solo again!..but a LassieSongsUSA! @duckrodeo a song lyric says "I Am Alive Forever!"..Songwriter! Songwriters! this one written way cool and excellent!

  • I love Elton .Period. I love Valerie Bertanellli more. A beer for Tumblweed .

  • Something I've noticed: Elton has more hair on his head NOW then he did THEN in The 70's; Has anyone else noticed this? At any rate,I hear this was about a man who got cold feet at a wedding and aborted at the last minute. I guess he was afraid she would be more of a burden than he bargined for. Some women are like that, you know.

  • @kja427 Yes, you are right. It is because now he has a hair weave. The song was written about himself, as he was going to be married but then decided (after being persuaded by his friend) to call it off and moved away.

  • If I had a time machine I would be at this concert.

  • Everythime he opens my hearth again with his music and being who he is, love this person. So great what he brings. Heavenly music !

  • This song makes you want to keep going

  • Just close your eyes and listen. I remember when I did with this song, for the first time. It was majestically moving.

  • His voice was so lovely back then :)

  • You can try to the bitter end, but you can't fake your way through life. You'll never lie, cheat, and steal your way to success and happiness.

  • Musically Speaking- if u weren't there when Elton, and Jimmy and Pearl, and Jeff Airplane, and Zappa, Sawyer Brown, Country Joe, Neilsen, Harry Chapin, The Beatles, the stones, Well honey- The very best music on the planet happened then. You missed the party- but you can still reap the benefits.

  • @theladysquire Happy to say,- I was there--------------and I'm still here, too! :)

    peace

  • I saw Elton John at the Omni in Atlanta during this tour. I went with my best friend in HS. He died last year in October. I still think about him all the time. This song always reminds me of him. The part of rolling around the basement to me is about his girl friend at the time. I miss my friend but the song helps.....RIP Hayden.....

  • Bestial!

  • I can't imagine a more talented performer. No one else in the world could've pulled this one off.

  • @98dublinz Freddie Mercury :)

  • @Sappyspartan thumbs up a million... but them in unison... ;)

  • Love the video, is the 1976 Edinburgh concert available for puchase

  • one of the best songs ever written!!!

  • infkncredible!!!!! JUST HIM AND HIS PIANO???? WTF???? WOW!!!!

  • honestly, elton john is like god

  • this is the best.i cant believe it

  • this song, this performance, and this man could not be any more incredible!!!

  • My Dad used ot be head grouds keeper at the old Schaefer Stadium in Foxboro... when were kids he used to put the family camper in the stadium. My kid brother and I saw this concert (1976) and we'll never forget it. I was 9 and he was 7

  • i love how no one made any noise until it was over

that was the best performance of this song period!

  • ""Easy answer, he was suicidal?""... idiot. he was going to be married and his friend talked him out of marrying a woman who was superficial and high maintenance and dominating. ....moron.

  • Walter Jackson WAy betteR! and i love Elton's music.....

  • sucks it wont let u share the video

  • by far.....& near,

MY MOST LOVED OF ALL OF HIS WORK. THANK YOU SIR =)

  • who could've known the greatest musician ever would be a fairy :)

  • I saw Elton on this tour in Minneapolis it was just him and his drummer Ray Cooper. I was 12 years old and it was awesome!

  • @gern83 i thought nigel ollson was his drummer?

  • @halfstep44 Elton's drummer & percussionists: Ray cooper & John Mahon percussion, and Nigel Olsson on the kit.

  • Thank you for sharing this special performance.

  • The end is what always gets me. Something about how he says "Someone saved, someone saved, someone saved my life tonight." makes me want to cry.

  • I thought This was verry good but honestly he didn't look or sound like Elton John to me. Was he on drugs here?

  • @Elton33lover33kay

    I hope so.

  • @Elton33lover33kay

I hope so. Musicians always best on drugs.:)

  • @Danyerd hahahahaha his music is good now and always will be but he is kinda turning into the boring old guy... he doesn't really do too many cool things now... sadly he has even cut down on how many tours he does.

  • @Elton33lover33kay

Easy answer, he was suicidal, you should look up the history of this song, it is all about him killing himself and he confessed for those first years singing it, it was harder and harder Every time he sang it he wanted to kill himself more... So yeah probably drugs too..

  • @Elton33lover33kay Booze, actually. This concert was a display in public drunkenness, and may be part of the reason why it hasn't been released commercially. However, he still managed a great performance, and the audience was highly entertained.

  • amazing!

  • Masterpiece.

  • Ведь был голос. И куда чего девается?

  • @serz1971 я был на концерте в этом году. Что до голоса - то он стал только лучше. Что удивительно в его возрасте...

  • Deep to the soul!

  • He looks so happy.

Probably my favorite performance of all time.

  • He looks so happy.

  • Incredible talent. Wow. I remember when Elton was coming out with songs like this, loved it then and I still love it. He's still a great performer but this.... this is just amazing.

  • He had a great voice back then.

  • Now THAT'S a proper piano sound, not like that tinny fake sound he uses thesedays

  • Elton John is an amazing singer my mom loves this guy been awhile since I saw her collection of Elton but I do remember this guy went reverse hair lolz

  • this guy can friken sing.

  • thers allways a dragon gauding any treasure even if you cant see it

  • Poor guy, I do believe he had surgery on his throat which did something to his vocals. Still is a superb musician nevertheless

  • Wow! I'm hypnotized.......

Incredible talent. Incredible song. How does one do this???

  • I was and am too. This version is one the extras of his 60th birthday show in New York. And it stuns.

  • What a true musician- the live version sounds even better than the album!

  • Elton's first solo (well, almost solo concert--Ray Cooper joined late) from Edinburgh, Scotland. I know a couple of people who were there and it was so memorable and powerful they still remember it to this day!!! I was lucky enough to have seen Elton several times in the 70's and they shows are still unequaled today! I've seen him as well in the 80's, 90's and the solo and EJ/BJ tours in the late 90's and 2000's, but nothing will EVER equal the shows from the mid-70's!

  • Actually, this was Elton solo from start to finish. Cooper did not apepar with him. The first show with Elton & Ray wasn't until 1977 when they did an engagement at the Rainbow Theatre.

  • @BigShotTony Bullshit. I saw EJ in 74 and Cooper was with him. Sorry pal. You are very wrong.

    peace

  • Thank God that You tube is still around

Great Musician ,songwriter. Thanx for the Vid

  • at his best

  • Amazing. I only wish I was alive at the time to see Elton here at his best.

  • @duckrodeo he still is :D listen

to him sing it in torshavn

  • @duckrodeo tru dat

  • @duckrodeo I can tell you, it was absolutely electric to see him live in this period especially. At least we can still see some of these incredible performances on video.

  • Thanks for the memories. This was always one of my favorites and all the memories that went along with it at that time.

  • Just an amazing song-Memories...

  • Man this takes me back to my childhood!listening to this song while Thunders were looming as a young'un in 1975>much thanks for all the beautiful music Reg!Happy Birthday you LEGEND! xx

  • @TexasBob75 Me too..I used to sit in my closet and call Z100 radio station in Philadelphia to play this song. I called so much they knew me and would say it is on the play list Deanne. I remember I got a record player for Christmas and this album. I was so excited a wore that record out, especially this song..LOL Z100 got a brake after that. What a great time and album. There is no one like him and Bernie Taupin. Can't forget him as these are his lyrics..These two were the best!
