This will not be another Leites fight. Maia actually has balls. He doesn't have the greatest standup but he has never been shy to throw, and his ground game is always aggressive. That being said, he'd be dumb to strike with Silva. I think he'll be aggressive with takedowns, unlike Leites and not run the whole fight like Leites. Not to mention, Maia is just plain better at BJJ. Maia will take risks and there will be a KO or submission.

I don't hate Nogueira's stand up game and I think he is good at technical boxing. Nog is just a big man how many heavyweight fighters do you see that are skilled at kicking to the level of Silva? I think training in stand up with Nog helps Silva because I guarantee Nog hits hard maybe he doesn't knock people out but I bet he is very knowledgible about the stand up game. BJ was not the prodigy of bjj, when the gracies didnt give him his black belt as fast as HE thought he deserved it he ran crying to "earn" his black belt elsewhere. Very few fighters are actually willing to stand and bang with Anderson these days, I think Maia was quite brave for at least trying to box him, it's a lot more than you can say for Thales.

@sumoshinobi Yeah, he won on points (like on ore two points) in the ADCC's. But trust me, demian maia is in no universe a better grappler than jacare, although he own that match. I think jacare is a 6 time bjj world champ, different titles, maia has two. The top bjj guys fight eachother all the time, and who beats who changes from time to time.

BJ was not the prodigy of bjj, when the gracies didnt give him his black belt as fast as HE thought he deserved it he ran crying to "earn" his black belt elsewhere. Not saying BJ isnt a great black belt in BJJ he's just not the prodigy. I'm sure quite a few black belts would school him in a Gi BJJ match.

he became too cocky! His standup is nowhere near good, so standing up with a guy like marquadt is destined to get him KO'd. He should instantly do a sweep or pull guard against EVERYONE. If he pulls guard on Anderson Silva or takes him down it's all over but standing for even a little bit or trying a kick or flying knee and its all over for maia.

the only one who can beat silva as a middleweight. however, silva said that he wants to vacate his belt and fight at light heavy full time. so the winner of maia vs. marquardt gets henderson probably in november or december.

I'm curious to see what his standup is really like, supposedly it's pretty good and he hits very hard but it's close enough to a fight it might be the typical prefight "best shape of my life, lots of surprises, have no weaknesses anymore" from his camp.

Like Maia a lot! He can submit stronger and bigger fighter. On stand up he has no chance with Anderson Spider but if he could take the fight to the ground he have the skill to submit him. One day he will be the Champ!
