Sorry but this system doesn't seem to work very wel. It looks very laggy and to be honest, standing in front of that for 2 hours with all those blinking lights would make me go nuts. I think the software itself looks pretty cheap and boring. For simple 2 channel-mixing you're better off with 2 cd players and a 2 channel mixer, you would be faster and do better mixes at least. I can't see someone working this thing with ease.
@thisisfraa Basically because you work with turntables and not with software, maybe most of the "analog" djs would agree with u, digital ones of course not.
Get emulator from smithson martin - you can now run it with any software (not just traktor, as it used to be). That is designed for touchscreens, not like this, where he has to have 3 stabs at hitting the crossfader (YUK!)
I don't particularly like Virtual DJ, if I was going to actually DJ a gig with this touch screen I would use Tracktor or DJay for Mac. The reason I demo'd it with VD is because it has a lot of stuff going on the display and it looks cool with all the colors and stuff spinning around. The whole point was to do something visually dynamic.
@QHRreport2 - I was using a very early version of the Mac touch screen drivers, the newer version of the Mac drivers and the Windoze PC drivers now work much better,
It doesn't help that the software is mouse based and not touched enabled. You have very small "sweet spots" for a large number of controls, and radial controls do not accept linear movement. If someone were to rebuild the UI, it is 110% doable, and would be fantastic.
It seems it does not have multi-touch support in the pressure sensitive overlay by the way you use one finger to adjust parameters... or am i mistaken- please clarify !
this is for ipod mp3 jackoff little white boys who are too young and dumb to actually spend mommies money on real equipment! ohh it's cool aint it? but how long will you play with it? i see on ebay that most of the turntables being sold on there are from the same little cyber twat white boys! your a bunch of losers! watchin youtube all day! and then you found REAL DJING isnt that easy? so like what most of you retards do! YOU DONT WANT to PLAY WITH IT ANYMORE! fake ass suckas!
Is this cheaper than the Emulator? How exactly does this overlay work and with what screen applications? Could I throw it on my 24" IMac or my 42" Panasonic flat screen tv? I'm kinda confused...
Looks impressive, but i think most musicians will always prefer to have tactical feedback from a knob, a fader, keys, etc. Looks like the touch screen doesn't give you as fine control as actually moving a controller. Besides, you finger covers whatever you might want to be looking at!
For anyone that wants this all you do is google 32 inch custom LCD touch panel. it will work with any software. (a Touch panel has a mouse cable connector no drivers needed)
@xtremeusher are you like one of those people who sees the most liked comment and then goes to a similar video or one that has the same topic and writes the same thing and TRIES to get the highest rated comment too and you feel all cool beacuse you are almost 100% sure it will work again T_T.....EVERYONE TYPE IN, "THE FUTURE OF DJ'ING IS HERE" ITS A COOL VIDEO LIKE THIS AND MAKE SURE YOU LOOK AT THE HIGHEST RATED COMMENT,"YOUR A GREAT BIG PHONEY" hahaha like this comment so I can be on top haha
Shemassault - Actually I prefer a nudge button to using the syn buttom so good call. It all depends of the software you are running, this setup will run any program and some do have a nudge feature.
@Bloggerholico - It is a Samsung 37 inch LCD display with a PQ Labs touch screen overlay. They make different size overlays up to 60 inched and you can use them with any monitor. I was running Virtual DJ on a Mac but you can use any DJ or music software, Tracktor, Abelton, etc.
You would but the monitor in Mexico, then you can order the Touch screen from PQ Labs (google them you you will get their site) and they will ship it to you in mexico. The touch screen just attaches to the front of the monitor and plugs into the usb port on your computer.
@eugenegordon69 Oh ok, so i have to but the screen and you just send me the program? Whats exactly the things i have to buy? to have everithing i see on this video?
@jeffreyokabe = You should go back to school and learn how to type, your grammar sucks. Here is your grammar lesson. It's 'you' little bitch, not your. It should be 'who the fuck cares how much your house COSTS?' You should have said 'we don't give a fuck about what YOU fly". I think you meant 'you're' (as in you are) gay as fuck. Now go to your room and don't come out until you get it right.
@eugenegordon, your little bitch, who the fuck cares how much your house is, we dont give a fuck about what fly in your free time, truth is your GAY AS FUCK, and your too self-centered.
It looks good but you can't touch two or more places at the same and get the same reaction time, which is no good for a dj,it maybe the start of future djing but at the moment it's just good to look at.
this is just awesome! I remember in my younger days fantasizing about the days where i would get to see stuff like this! virtual DJ isnt my preferred platform but i cant wait to see where stuff like this will go next.
Ok kids... I can see we've started a debate here. I have to say, honestly, this thing is much harder to DJ on than a set of turntables or CDJs, regardless if you are using Serato or record and CDs. Again I want to say, I built it as something to play with, to see if this technology can work (it can if you are used to it).
Again, the sync button is not cheating and is no different that manually adjusting the pitch during a mix to line the beats up. It's just a faster way of doing it. Also the sync button is not flawless, I have found that you still have to make minor adjustments to the pitch after using it. It get;s things close but you still have to make minor adjustments.
I you read my previous post you will see that I use a Serato setup. I don't understand why anyone thinks Serato is not cool. Why in the hell would you want to carry 6 crates of records with you. I started DJing in 1979 and I used to haul 5 or 6 milk crates of records with me to every job. Now I just take my laptop, the end result is still the same, you rock that party, who care how or what you use to do it.
why? its new technology and a new way to dj. its not like dj with turntables, its just a new way of doing things. i dont think dj'ing should be stuck at the same technology for ever. as long as you mix with your ears, and not your eyes, you can mix with spaceships if you want to.
you load your tracks, you set the pitch and you mix/pitch/mix/pitch/eq. thats the way of doing it with turntables, and also with new technology stuff. but i think the sync button is cheating =P
i use serato and turntables, is that a disgrace because i use coded vinyl and software? i think its a disgrace to dj'ing to say no to new technology. let the kids mix with cows if they want to, as long as they having fun its the shit. but its not the ORIGINAL way of doing it.
@DjBesd great argument you present there buddy... Id like to hear some reasoning behind this comment becasue to me, it looks like he's 1: playing music. 2: mixing tracks. 3: creating interesting and innovative ways to do so. more of you people need to realize that it is indeed 2011, Technology is advancing exponentially, and the only way to stay ahead on top is to embrace this technology. throw away your narrow minded view of what you THINK DJ'ing is and think outside the box. you are naive.
@hardcorehac That is exactly right. I have been spinning for a living since 1979 as well. I have seen every trend and every machine come and go. Embrace the new, remember the past, and set your creativity free!
First off I built this to show what's possible with a touch screen interface. It's a 32 inch Samsung display with a PQ labs overlay, they make the overlay in sizes up 60 inches. The 32 inch costs around $800. You can also place it over a piece of tinted plexi glass and use a projector so people can see what you are doing from both sides. Same as the Token touch screen display you see people using Emulator with.
So you can use any type of DJ software you want with it, Traktor, Emulator, Virtual DJ, Abelton, etc. This setup I was running Virtual DJ off a Mac Mini. I built it, shot the video of me using it and it has been sitting on a shelf ever since.
I have never used Virtual DJ before, I just got it to demo the touch screen. Personally I think it is a shit program and I would never use it on a gig (I use Serato).
Yes, I would say it is a bit of a gimmick, but then again, people have offered me money to bring it out to their club and demo it it front of a crowd because it looks cool. And it's really a great interface if you use Abelton Live because you can just hit the buttons on the screen instead of using a mouse, it's just another option you can use instead of a dedicated controller and again, it looks cool.
Yes, there was a bit of a latency issue, PQ Labs has since come out with a new driver that solves the problem. When I built it the touch screen for Mac Computers had just come out, so the driver was the first generation.
As for all you sync button bashers, do you guys still ride a horse to your DJ jobs? Of course not, you drive a car, you are using newer technology, they sync button is just a tool to help you set your mixes up, what's wrong with that? It saves time. Let's see, I can sit there and scrub the track back and for and adjust the pitch while i do it or i can hit a button. So?
In the end, it's about the music, you can use all the tricks you want but if you pick crappy tracks and don't know how to read a room you'll still suck not matter what. I use Serato and there is no sync button, but if I am using something that has a sync feature I will use it to save time.
My personal setup is a DJM800, with Serato and two CDJ1000MK3s, I have probably spun more gigs and have made more money than everyone on this board combined. I have been DJing since 1979 when Disco was born and have seen all kinds of technology come and go.
I have a feeling that the old school way of DJing by spinning a wheel around is going to be fading away like it or not. Personally I love using wheels (turntables or CDJs) to DJ with and I agree with those of you who think pushing buttons to DJ sucks, but it's the future and where things are heading, like it or not.
DJs are doing so much more in their sets because of all this new tech, creating mixes that were not possible with just a couple or turntables, why would you not want to push the envelope? Everyone and their mother is a DJ these days, so the only thing that will separate you from the rest is if you stay ahead of them creatively and to do that you have to keep up with technology, there is no way around it.
And as for this touch screen; it's a gimmick for insecure djs. And who in their right mind thinks they're going to have enough room in the(any) dj booth. EPIC FAIL.
I dont get what all the fuss is about, if a mix by someone sounds good, why the hell does it matter if its electronic or what program it is. Sure the sync button may be considered "Cheating" by some of you, but if the mix sounds professional why should it matter? Because using old stuff "keeps house music alive and takes more skill"? It's about sound not skill. And music constantly changes so it may not be "killing it" it's simply just changing, because time goes on. ^.^
This Is Retared First Becuase Its Virtual Dj,Second No Headphones Cus Doesnt Have Soundcard,Third Because You Cant Beatmatch You Use The Beginers Thing 'SYNC' If this is the future of djing then fuck you for iventing it!
Damn, that finger-mouse action delay is just too much, that would annoy me. Until they can come up with an instantly-responsive system, hardware is still king.
your in virtual dj. why on earth do you need headphones?

Do you own a set of Techincs?

Personally I think it is a shit program and I would never use it on a gig (I use Serato).
eugenegordon69 11 months ago

So?
eugenegordon69 11 months ago
In the end, it's about the music, you can use all the tricks you want but if you pick crappy tracks and don't know how to read a room you'll still suck not matter what. I use Serato and there is no sync button, but if I am using something that has a sync feature I will use it to save time.
eugenegordon69 11 months ago
iNoaGirl - Yes, I was using the sync button BECAUSE I didn't have headphones on.
battlestarvfx - Um... excuse me but ALL dance music is done digitally, your point is?
Like it or not, digital is the future of music (and DJing), so you better get with the program.

My personal setup is a DJM800, with Serato and two CDJ1000MK3s, I have probably spun more gigs and have made more money than everyone on this board combined. I have been DJing since 1979 when Disco was born and have seen all kinds of technology come and go.
eugenegordon69 11 months ago
I have a feeling that the old school way of DJing by spinning a wheel around is going to be fading away like it or not. Personally I love using wheels (turntables or CDJs) to DJ with and I agree with those of you who think pushing buttons to DJ sucks, but it's the future and where things are heading, like it or not.
eugenegordon69 11 months ago
DJs are doing so much more in their sets because of all this new tech, creating mixes that were not possible with just a couple or turntables, why would you not want to push the envelope? Everyone and their mother is a DJ these days, so the only thing that will separate you from the rest is if you stay ahead of them creatively and to do that you have to keep up with technology, there is no way around it.

My favorite quote from the video; "this might not sound great cause I don't have headphones on" Ummmm sir, YOU ARE USING A SYNC BUTTON.
iNoaGirl 11 months ago
And as for this touch screen; it's a gimmick for insecure djs. And who in their right mind thinks they're going to have enough room in the(any) dj booth. EPIC FAIL.
iNoaGirl 11 months ago
@djnativexsanity; you sound like somebody who never mixed a record.
iNoaGirl 11 months ago

It's good, i've tried it.. But it's yet not responsive enough to compete with a physical turntable, i'm sorry.
TheRealTimious 11 months ago
Damn, that finger-mouse action delay is just too much, that would annoy me. Until they can come up with an instantly-responsive system, hardware is still king.
