Great job. I'm just learning this song. It's fun to play and the way Alex has the chords set up, the changes are not too bad to play. Haven't started learning the solo yet.
@3845alex Have you ever seen Lifeson's live pdeal board setup? There are always Barbies all around it. Sometimes holding up signs. They are known as Al's Babes.
Great job! Been a bass player for years with just enough guitar to write songs. But recently have been giving the "geeter" more attention. While learning a few Rush songs, I've had to hit UT a few times to make sure I was playing em correctly. Well your vid by far has been the most enjoyable and well played I have run across. Thanks and keep rockin!
ha" too metal sounding". can you belive someone had to make a comment like that?. sounds great to me!! And I"m somewhat of a tone snob when it comes to amps'. I think it has to do with someone that just has the patience to sit and learn the art of playing and ultimately" learning how to dial in a good tone from any amp! Your just Fuck"n Jealous so you had to come up with a lame comment to expose to the rest of us that your an "IDIOT"!!
Oh....he has the chops...for sure. Just like a Metal version of Limelight, was what I meant. And yes, Big Al, did have some body language...I have been a fan since 1977...so I know. Was NOT meant to be mean or crass...just an observation. ;)
Dude! I have watched about 11 videos of other people playing this song. Some were good and I give them a lot of credit, but when it came to their solo's they couldn't quite get it right. I guess a cover doesn't have to be exact, but you are the man! I mean you nailed the whole song! I have been playing guitar since I was 12 years old and I am in my late 40's and still can't play like you! I expect to see you touring the world very soon! You've definataly got the look of a rock star!!
This is the Yngwie/George Lynch - Lifeson attempt. Your body language, guitar positioning and attack are all those too....along with the hair-tossing, body rocking showmanship. How come all the new guitarists today play all that pinch harmonic crap. ITS OVERUSED. Leave that to Zak Wylde....uugh!! The beauty of Lifeson is: no games...no BS, no shake your booty, flip your hair, pretty boy crap...He just stands there and ROCKS!! 110% clean...sonic perfection. No fluff...a CLASS ACT.
@riftvalleyman Maybe you're confusing RUSH with Mahogany Rush or Tom Rush because Lifeson rocks out, strikes poses and generally has a blast live. Granted on recent tours he's doing more rolling than rocking. This kid nailed it.
@riftvalleyman if you've ever listened to or watched Lifeson, you'd know that he DOES incorporate pinch harmonics, and he does (certainly in his younger days) incorporate body language and 'flair' into his performance. In fact, you can still detect most of the same body language in his performances today that you might have seen on Don Kirshner's 'Rock Concert', or the 'Grace Under Pressure Tour' video. Let's not sell Lifeson short on Rock n Roll dynamics and personality.
that was really amazing! now if only 90% of the rest of world would stop being posers and be more real and innocent and honest like this fella here... music might start to get some merit back...
I guess it's a good tribute considering you are using the type of guitar lifeson used in the 80s and you dressed like you were from the 80s too. I wouldn't know for sure, but that's what I assume.
you played the solo at 150% or 200% on the climbs, i couldn't really tell but i know it was extra..lol! Alex does the first two climbs twice, and the final one with the sustain note is once. i wish i could play it at 100% properly let alone add extra! wow, you really got the fluidity on the solo that Alex always speaks of, that's my goal for someday!! hey, tell us about the backing track, it sounds really good. is it on youtube? the midi versions are so-so at best, not original enough.
@ACELLOFAWARENESS Thanks a lot for the comments and taking the time to write them. I saw some of your Rush concert videos and realized that we were siting in the first row right next to you at Jones Beach. The track is availablefrom apple through Garage band as part of an Alex Lifeson lesson.
@iamajibber - no kidding, wow!! well, i guess you could watch my jones beach vids then and they're just about yours, and can tell people you were right.....THERE!!! hope you're able to see them again in april, i'm going to 6 in april and then ALL 13 when they come back from europe and hit the western US!!!!
@REAPER3295 I used a Line 6 Pod X3. I started with their stock sound called Purple and modified it. The single coil pickups of the strat influence the sound as well as switching pickups.
A couple of cool things about this video. The playing is perfect. Great solo. Love the bobbleheads and the way you have a barbie at Alex's feet just like he used to have in his stage setup. Also liek the Exit Stage Left look you went for! This is 5*

Love the pastel tone of your jacket. It's very Lifeson early 80's! Try to find a powder blue one!

You're getting getting great tone out of that guitar even though it only has single coil pickups.

@ilikehairbands are you retarded? its a fender, you cant get no better than powerful single coil pick ups on a fender, so warm

@joesatriani1200rulez I personally don't like single coil pickups..
