What happens if music is just ambient background sound, perhaps coming from a radio while you are recording OTHER things not related to the radio.

For example, when Jack Ruby shot Lee Harvey Oswald: Suppose somebody was playing, Rock Around The Clock, too loud and was picked up when Oswald was shot on camera. Would Bill Haley have copyrights the music AND the sounds of the shooting on that recording?

If only this had been out 20 years ago, perhaps the US government wouldn't be considering SOPA or Protect IP. I think this video does a good job with basic knowledge while not sounding accusatory.

That was great.. very helpful ! But in fact a lot of companies never reply to emails (when u want to get a permission to remix some tunes or remake a movie.. they just never reply with a yes or a no) and plus.. copyrighting can be very hectic and requires from you to do a huge procedure before you own the rights for ur work.. People end up posting to YouTube or blogging about their creative ideas.. and the debate remains as is..

@LibertarianChristian Submitting copyrighted material to any public place on the internet is very close to stealing. I mean, you don't share copyrighted recorded music over the telephone, do you? Even radio stations need permission to play recorded music and usually need to pay royalties.
