blue tang is not a good fish to keep, they are very fragile. damsels are asshole fish ( nemo too) and sharks are wrong to keep in captivity. for having a show about fish these guys a dumb asses. my top 5 for residential; royal gamma, clowns ( they are assholes though), six line wrasse, triggers, and puffers. of course the gamma and wrasse would go into a smaller tank and the others would go into a 120gal or more. and the clown could go both depending on the species.
why cant everyone just appreciate the aquarium? seriously who cares if they are being put in an aquarium... you cant say you wouldnt love to have a tank like these.
@rwhitmore23 first its 10 inches and also thats if u have them in a huge tank. the guy at my local petstore said that a blue tang would be great for my tank thats only 50 gal. but cuz its in a small enviorment it would only grow to be 4-5 inches
@willa1b2c3 Actually it is 12", Ive seen them myself. Secondly, the guy at the pet store will tell you anything to get your money, since they are crooks. Yeah, it will max at 6" in your 50 gallon, but it won't live longer than a couple of years (it can live to 15 with proper care) and it will surely get HLLE with the first year. If your tank is not at least 125 gallon then you have no business getting a tang. Of course, what would I know right? I just have a 180 reef with 15 years experience.
I meet Bret at reef a palooza 2011 and he was great! He knew so much about what he was talking about! He asked my 6 year old what was his favorite episode and my son replied "the crocodile show" Brett lol. He is a great guy and my son and I would love to meet the rest of the crew one day. Every reefer or someone that would like to get into the hobby should watch the show Tanked!
Had a client with a shark ...he got tired of it..he wanted a reef tank...went to get the shark out, and begin converting the tank ... The SHARK had grown so big that there was NO WAY TO GET THE SHARK OUT IN ONCE PIECE...
people THINK! and do you research before purchasing any fish... I mean REALLY keeping a shark is irresponsible!
Most animals in captivity were BORN in captivity they dont know theres a bigger world out there. Those fish and the ones in your aquariums dont KNOW that there are oceans out there they know the aquarium they live in thats ALL they know. Same with zoo animals. Most were born in zoos and dont know how to hunt or how to survive in the wild. We know about the wild and that animals live there they dont to them their enclosures are the wild and their home. Its not jail to them its HOME!
@ibizalover2000 Everyone starts their tanks with damsels because a) they are cheap and b) hardy, because c) there will be some die off in the early days of most tanks. Do your research.
@andrepcerri if you did research, you would have found that damsels are the nastiest fish that you can put in an aquarium - they are extremely aggressive and territorial, which is probably why your other fish end up dying. I good hardy fish to start with is a clownfish for example.
no animal should be kept in captivity unless is for some effort to keep them from extinguishing, and specially sharks! i mean what that hell is doing a black tipped shark in an aquarium?!
@quintijnisthebest sure, the thing is, cats and dogs, are domestic animals, sharks aren't! sharks swim all day, they don't sleep, except for some species that can lay down on the floor, but black tipped sharks, need to be swimming, and that just a torture to do circles all day long in a fish tank!
@MauricioGomezPino I agree totally about the whole shark idea. certain animals should never be in captivity unless you build an aquarium big enough so they never see everything but then you wouldnt see them itd be so big it would defeat the purpose. However some animals I think enjoy life in captivity such as smaller fish like blennies, damsels, tangs, clowns, shrimp, crabs, coral, etc. Also freshwater cichlids I have some :)
@MauricioGomezPino Keeping fish in an aquarium is perserving the species and giving it the best life as possible. With fish in an aquarium it is creating a replica enviornment for the fish, just excluding the predators. Marine aquarists are giving the fish a better life in the aquarium, then a life they would have in the wild. Hopefully this eases your worry about captive species.
@MauricioGomezPino ok but fish in the ocean swim in each others piss and shit but in captivity its cleaner. So you sir want fish to swim in shit thats cruel, and they get more food in captivity, hate when people don't know what theyre talking about.
@SurgeRapper Good grief.....so you won;t swim in the ocean 'cause it's dirty!?!?! Guarantee you most fish-only tanks are dirtier than the ocean, and even some reef tanks are as well (like mine cause I'm lazy with water changes)
@SurgeRapper You have no idea how dirty most SW tanks are. A lot of fish/Marine life live longer in the wild than they would in captivity because of how hard it is to meet their diet requirements or because of how unstable your water is. Obviously this is a general case, you can't compare a 120g tank at someone's home to a full blown 50,000g tank in a public aquarium or a rehabilitation center.
A group ofblue tangs? Not likly theyll fight this is a joke damselfis are evil fish bad idea, and what person can afford an approprietly sized shark tank most expierienced aquariast say 26000 for a black tip reef shark
They piss and moan and break each others balls all the time. They will rack he old man's business. Larry and Mo.
