  • She's right about not copying someone else's style

  • Thank youu :)

  • Do you think exceptions apply? I'm fairly new to this, I'm just curious. Would, for example, taking a male character monologue and expressing the feminine elements in it be too much?

  • LOOOL !! i picked the "monster" monologue before i saw this video ..and i kept watching the scene over and over..

  • thank you very helpful

  • Most of this is common sense. Any actor worth his or her salt should know this stuff intuitively.

  • Again, wonderful advice!

  • This is exactly what my drama teacher is telling me! lol :)

  • Material you want to stay away from - videos featuring Tracy Goodwin.

  • "Don't even go there" - hahaha! Thankyou :D

  • wow very true =D Thanxsss

  • haha dont even go there....I couldnt stop laughing!

  • You are excellent! You are a great help as I am choosing monologues for college auditions. Thanks a million.

  • Doh' Wish i had seen this video first. I did exactly what she suggested to not do...and I performed the same monologue that she suggested to not do. I did my best, but oh well moving forward...no more "You can't handle the truth" for me.

  • The professional advice I have (from many sources) is not to do a piece from a film at all if auditioning for the stage.

  • **How's My Acting** was started for aspiring actors who do monologues. You can upload them there. It's free by the way, If you want to join the website is in my channel or you can Search "Hows My Acting" on Google.

  • Looking for talented actors and aspiring actors to be a part of a New Free Actors Social Network. The link is in the channel

Upload your monologues,TV/Demo Reel,Voice Overs and make a few acting friends.

  • Thank you sooo much for sharing your talent and wisdom.

  • Why does the subtitles always end up in you face?? It's pretty annoying!

    Good advice btw.

  • i'm auditioning for cardinal carter's academy for the arts in january (this is in toronto canada btw) and i need to memorize a monologue, does anyone have any suggestions??

  • i'm 14 btw

  • i need a dramatic monologuge for high school! plzzzzzzzzzzzz help!!

  • AHAHA! your so funnyyyy :)

"dont even go there. jack did good. let's leave it at that."

  • i love that part to

  • "okay.......dont even go there" lol wow that was funny

  • where can i get really good monologues.

  • I dont know about the age thing, what if your character is 18 and you are 25-30?

  • then I suggest you back the fuck up bro lol

  • If you can still play 18, then that's fine. It's more of what you can play. If you look 30 then playing 18 would be too young.

  • she said u can play a couple years younger than your age or vise versa

  • Although I certainly appreciate the advice, I don't fully agree with the "don't watch the movie" notion expressed here. First of all, if I watch Paul Scofield's Lear, and really pay attention, chances are I'm going to learn something about phrasing or interpreting a Shakespearean monologue that I likely would not have picked up on my own. Secondly, I don't think - psychologically speaking - we are actually capable of developing anything other than our own interpretation of a character.

  • Yeah we are, it's just like with a song, if you hear a song over and over and over again and then sing it, eventually you will try to sing the song verbatim the same exact way it is in the actual song. I believe that's true with anything.

  • I've seen enough "copying" in auditions, where someone prefers Christopher Walken's role in "Deer Hunter" as Walken would rather than creating their own interp. However, I do think that watching the film couldn't hurt, so long as you avoid a cut-and-paste trick.

  • YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH LOL, if someone came to audition to me with that first linei'd say OKTHANK u very much for u audition..

  • this makes a lot of sense

  • what about shakespeare monologues? i am 17 but there isnt any monologues for 17 year olds, so i want to pick a character that has a persona close to mine, like Macduff, who is around 30 in the play, people say it suits me. good or bad idea?

  • on the contrary

    Puck is ageless

and Romeo is about the youngest big part Shakespeare wrote

    tbf

Macduff could be played by someone in mid 20s (shakespearean audiences/actors rarely lived past 30) but stick with the younder characters if possible

e.g. Puck (my fav), Romeo or possibly Pertruccio (if U want one they won't have heard a million times)

  • Romeo was in his 30's

it was juliet who was the youngster,

i think it depends on how good an actor youh are, with the right body posotioning you could manage lear if you put your mind to it.

  • What are the differences between auditioning for a role and an audition for e.g. AADA?

  • thanks so much your vid was very helpful specially for the starter theater people like me... thanks very much

  • Your videos are extremely helpful!

But I have a question. I'm entering my first pageant and would like to perform a monologue, do you have any suggestions? Tips?

    Thanks so much.

    :)

  • I love your vids! you give such original and extremely helpful info. Thanks.
