  • I am waiting for my SRO ps1000...... really looking forward to it.

Right now I have a tunze 9005 but I hope the SRO will do a great job compared to the tunze(not that tunze is a bad skimmer)

  • Hey you think a Octopus 3000 will be overkill for heavy stocked 90 gallon?

  • cant even change my sock from lack of room skimmers staying not coming out ...skimmer overflowed all over this morning sould of had the gate valve fully opened during my break in period

  • just got mine today thank you and god for you and your vids! I barly got it in my sump and had to reroute uv light and proshate reactor, I have crazy micro bubbles and mine is the super space saver model, HOW LONG TILL IT BROKE IN NO MORE BUBBLES?

  • it was kind of off and on for the first 4 weeks. I heard a vinegar bath helps break it in.

  • Hmmm...looks like the suggested 6" of a water is a must for this skimmer judging from the video. Did you ever try to run it deeper?

  • ya and it didn't work out too well, it's also best to ensure the outlet is above or even with the water.

  • hmmm...think I'll look for another model then as the noise of falling water from the skimmer would get to me. thanks for the reply.

  • if you're interested in the skimmer I'm sure there's a way to make it work without sound. I don't have falling water sound cause the outlet is even with the water. check reefcentral octopus cone skimmer thread in the equipment forum....lots or people there posting their mods.

  • hey bud ive been doing a little reserch about the skimmer you have and all were vary great just wasent willing at the time to dish out all the money for it lol but then i gave in so now i get mine on friday :) i hope all the people out there dont let me down. btw your the only person who has a vid using this skimmer and i have to say you are great for showing us that if theirs a will theirs a way in the diy world thank for all your help and keep the vids comming. ill post a vid of my skimmer

  • Thanks very much for posting this video. Mine is supposed to come today, and I was wondering how high of a platform I will need to build, and where the water level should be. I only have 29" height available in the sump, so I hope it fits!

  • Great videos !! waiting for the update...

  • hey thanks. I've had a few requests for updates so I'll take some time this weekend to get something up. Thanks very much for the kind words.

  • i have to admit that because of your videos i got really motivated to start my own tank, i might go this weekend to start buying some stuff... maybe a 29g tank or smaller...

the best of your videos is the way that you talk about little details, like a new snail or a hermit... makes the viewer feel part of the project lol...

ok enough gayness keep the videos coming !!

  • That's awesom to hear.

29 gal is a great tank. If you are doing a sump a 20 long has the same foot print as a 29 gal ;)

This hobby is fantastic. It has some of the highest high's through success and lowest low's through challenges. It gives lots of chance to think/play in a constructive way. It adds some of the most beautiful creatures on the planet at home. It allows you to have something in common with local groups of people which provides a sense of belonging.

    it's all good

    & tyvm

  • So i went out last night as in friday night, and checked the tank i liked, its 60x45x55 so its almost 40gallons.. it has a sump already but i dont know the details, maybe i will buy it today and later or tomorrow i might set all the connections, pipes and so on... i will probably make a video about that... i'll let u know so u can check my progress too !!

  • I second what gprime22 says. But you can have very good nano tank if you keep up on the cleaning and water changes. 40 gal is a nice tank, and you get more water volume in the sump. It's also very nice cause the equipment cost isn't that great. Just be careful this hobby is addictive and you may find you need a 150gal soon :P

Can't wait to see some video's.....I love them....keep me posted, and good luck.

  • alright, +1 for the reefers! by the way smaller tanks are alot more harder to look after and care for because of the smaller volume of water and more nitrates and such build up faster then in a bigger tank, the only advice i can give is research, research and more research. the more time you put into learning something the better the pay off.

  • you have the skimmer in 6 inches of water with what, another 14 under it? why not run the drain from the skinner down to about 2 inches off the bottom that way it gets mixed around more down there and the flow over the first baffle isn't as wild, might help decrease some of the micro bubbles, just a thought.

  • Good idea. I may try that. For now that it's more broken in, and the settings more proper it seems to be working much better with no micro bubble, and angled in a way that it doens't cause to much over baffle splash. TYVM for the good idea.

  • Uhm couldn't you have moved some of the live rock in your 10 gallon, add a portion of water from the 10 gallon, and run a biofilter used in the 10 gallon and put them into this tank to speed up/skip the cycling process?

I'm actually gonna upgrade my 10 gallon to a 55 gallon in the next month or two.

  • Yup I could have done that, and I have. That will help the tank cycle faster, but with the addition of so much new rock, sand, and surfaces the tank will certainly go through another cycle. Plus I'm in no rush and I want to do this as right as possible. I still have lots of behind the scene work in terms of electrical stuff so I'm using this time to ensure a stable tank.

  • It's been 10 days lol. Any updates? Can't wait for the next video.

  • Well just a quick text update here. The tank has been cycling for a week now. The diatoms are starting to spread well. I've wired and tested my DIY light fixture. But I'm still waiting for things in the mail. Things I'm wating for are

    1) fans for the fixture.

    2) switches for the power center

    3) power heads

once that arrives I'll have a couple big updates.

  • looks awsome cant wait for the next video

  • nice man i also have a 90 gal mixed reef in the works to

  • Yay sw! Are you going to use raw shrimp to cycle?

  • ya I am. just waiting on the heaters to arrive.

  • I hope they get there soon lol.

  • Just got news today they're in the mail :) so in about a week or two I guess.

  • the die off from the live rock is enough to start the cycle, no need to use raw shrimp/prawns/scallops

  • I didn't use live rock. I made my own :)

  • starting to come together it looks like, lol in your tabs it says coast to coast. like coast to coast am lmao?

  • how much was this skimmer

  • If you're in the US it's $399 free shipping from most online fish shops. I'm in Canada so I paid about that (got a bit of discount) and shipping.

  • where abouts in canada? wondering how much shipping would be as im in canada myself

  • you can see for different shops if you pretend to order one and just not hit the "confirm" button. Check the rates from premium aquatics, salty supply, reef specialty, etc.

  • oh yeah, im convinced, im going with the xp-2000 cone for my 120g

  • cool skimmer. are you going to do a video of the tank soon

  • ya soon :) a lot of things are in the build stage atm so it'll just look like bunches of wires, and bended acrylic :)

The rocker switches I ordered for one of the projects were wrong so it'll be a little longer. Guy sent me 12v nor 120v by mistake...almost blew my finger off when I tested :P

  • Nice vid.

I heard those skimmers were amazing. Them, remora's, and penguins

  • I see you used clear acrylic for the baffles. I assume this was cheaper? If so. not a bad idea. No need to buy more expensive clear stuff. :)

  • ya it was cheaper...from a local reefer that had some kicking around. Cost me $20 for a 5x4' sheet. The rest I'm using on my T5 light fixture, and some other little projects that will be coming in an update later :)
